First completed FTP test since last June. Injuries and my disastrous fit issues derailed me for 3 consecutive challenges until now.

Added 5% to a manually entered number that was probably aggressive to begin with, so I'm really happy with the progress back to where I was.

Not a great situation for Peloton these days. Getting into a serious cash and leverage problem

Know how they could make some money? Sell Tread+ again.

What happens if they go under? Do classes and access disappear? We get stuck with useless bikes because we were stupid enough to buy them? Can we stop paying our monthly fee?

Thanks in advance.

I think we're well past the point of blaming the Treat+ for the companies financial woes.

Their management team were apparently complete imbeciles and it seems to be getting worse.

I would imagine that content would be hosted by someone, even Peloton for a while. They may not make new content, but hosting the old classes to stream wouldn't be expensive and could keep some money flowing for a while from people that are attached to the instructors or historic stuff.

I don't have any of the hardware anymore but I still take classes and would keep subscribing even without new content, at least for a while. They have a pretty big catalog that someone could take fresh classes for a long time

I don't think it will go under in the sense that there will be no more Peloton. They have a good platform, they just need some leadership and reinvention if you will. Someone will purchase them for pennies on the dollar, long before it just goes away. I saw there 52W high was $120+ and as I looked yesterday, it was <$12. Ouch!

Peloton initially did some things really well, and they still do. However, I think they go away from their roots. For example, the boot camp classes, yoga, etc...are they really bringing in enough memberships to justify the expense of making the content? I'm not sure. What about, scaling back operations. I mean they moved into a new facility just before COVID, and I'm not sure they have even had a group class in there. If so, it's not many. Do they really need that overhead?

Bottom line, it is my opinion Peloton will not just close up shop. We may see some significant changes over the coming months, but I doubt the bike and running content suffers much.

Curious to hear your thoughts on the Peloton Guide. Seems like they pushed a lot of money and time into this camera that watches you workout and I'm not un-convinced it'll flop. Just seems like, to Diggity's point a few above this, their management is not great at making decisions about how to run a company as a whole.

It certainly has a purpose....for professional athletes. I can see how it could be a useful tool to work on technique, but 99% of us on Peloton are not and will not be professional athletes. I agree that it looks to be a flop, and a poor management decision.

I would have thought that professional athletes would know how to do a one legged deadlift...to me, it's geared towards the new-to-fitness folks. Honestly, just baffled at some of their choices.

They're just doubling down on their dumb decisions, IMO.

They need to focus on their competencies and trim the fat. Their revenue is their revenue and they need to adjust their costs.

Instead, they're increasing their costs, trying to bring in new technology and new gimmicks, hoping that will bring more people and more revenue. And I'm sure at some point they'll put out another new price increase because all these new advances we have available to us. We'll see if it works.

It seems like a piece of equipment that is targeted to people that don't know how to workout. Meaning, they don't know how to do a side lunge correctly, or a row or bicep curl. I'm guessing the company sees that swath of the population as a potential un-tapped market. However, I'd argue that the number of people in that market that are likely to go dump that kind of coin on a device like the Guide is smaller than they think.

On a semi-related note, as I stated above, we placed our order for the Tread this past weekend. They had a promotion for $250 worth of accessories. They have dumbbells that go up to I think 50 or 60 lbs. However, you can't buy those unless you buy the Guide. So ignore our credit, if I wanted to buy something larger than a 30 lb. set of dumbbells to use on the bootcamp or strength classes, they won't sell them to me unless I buy the Guide. How stupid is that? They're likely the most marked-up thing in their inventory and they are putting artificial roadblocks in the way of their customers that want to buy them.

The company just seems ripe to be bought-out by an Amazon or Apple (I know, Android and all that) or someone similar that doesn't have **** for brains and will actually develop the features and items their customers want. Hell, it took years to implement a simple pause button simply because the company wanted to dictate to their customers what they wanted instead of listening.

Has anyone used Lanebreak lately? I've still never done it

Seems like another cool toy they wasted resources on instead of something useful like building out PZ targets in-ride.

Surely one of these companies, or another, is sitting back and watching the downslide just waiting for the right moment to pounce

I agree with all this. Stop doing artist series, lane break, scenic rides etc. Focus on cycling, running, and workouts.

Agree with the exception of Scenic Rides. I do think there's some opportunity there for user-generated content in terms of custom workouts etc. Like Excitebike for Peloton, and it provides "free" content going forward. Would be risky with heavy Dev costs though.

The artist series are just silly. We've seen earlier in this thread that their music licensing costs are multiples higher than music streaming services. The fact that they're doubling down on this is crazy.

I use lanebreak if I end up in a situation where I have exactly 20 minutes to ride, need something intense, and don't have a new hiit or tabata ride in my stack. Otherwise I'll spend 5 minutes scrolling through trying to find something that looks good. So it's great from a convenience standpoint, but I agree that it doesn't add much to the platform in terms of true value.

I know this thread is for talking about how Peloton runs their business, but yesterday I just set a new personal output high on a 30 minute ride and I am pumped.

I got into riding a year ago and then quit after about 7 weeks and rode here and there for the next year. I just got back into it again and have been working out every day for 6 weeks and doing the Peloton for the last 3 weeks and at first it felt like a different person must have set my personal bests because they seemed so out of reach.

Yesterday I got in an intense competition for 3rd place in a small group in sessions and went all out and ended up besting my 30 minute personal best total output by over 40 points.

Congrats! Always fun to set a PR. I haven't gotten one in awhile which is frustrating. But I spent a lot of time fat and injured in the last 9 months.

This is usually a thread to talk about the bike and workouts themselves...lots of Power Zone junkies on here especially. Lately, though, things have gone sideways so badly on the business, it has everyone talking about it.

My old gym replaced their rowing machine with these convertible rower/ski ergs (https://www.energy.fit/)
As you'd expect they are just OK. Not all that good as either a rower or ski erg, but super convenient for small gym

Did everyone get the email about "Peloton Radio"? I mean this seems like another wasted effort. Are you in the music business, or fitness business? If their team was in need of something to do and the company wasn't floundering, then sure go for it. Right now....

Go back to your roots Peloton. When you were born, you brought something to the industry, that to my knowledge didn't exist (live spin classes from home).

1) Make it to where we can create our own power zone plan for scenic rides
2) Picture in Picture of streaming TV service during scenic rides
3) data integration with Fitbit (I could be wrong here, but I think it works with Apple Watch but not Fitbit)
4) get back to actual in person live classes, or scale back overall facility size
5) create independent distribution facilities through a third party and cut the fat of trying to maintain all the distribution locations as a company.
6) bring back the tread+
7) I think the rower is a good idea
8) maybe elliptical?
9) are you really making much profit in the overseas markets?

You are welcome.

100% agree. Why can't I create my own ride program and song list to ride to. Let users create rides that others can follow just like I can listen to other people song lists on Spotify.

Increase the volume of live rides. I've NEVER ridden a live ride because they usually don't happen when I am able to ride.

Create races for distance and time instead of just the output metric.

Heck, send your top cyclers on a road tour and create huge buzz in cities. Put together Peloton teams for events like MS150 (maybe they already do this).

So many ways to increase your reach.

I've been thinking for years they could easily create College challenges on Saturday mornings and NFL challenges on Sundays. Always thought it would be cool to ride with a bunch of Ags 'against' another school in a live class, even if the metrics are mostly bogus

Both are great ideas. Adding to the MS150 idea, maybe partner with Tunnels 2 Towers. This would gain far more reach than these music series, that I am sure cost a fortune. How about sponsor these two organizations or something similar at a smaller cost, and a tax write off. Maybe Peloton should just hire this board to get them straightened out.

It's funny because everything you're saying is no extra capital for them, and they can't see what's in front of them. Just poorly ran.

Ordered a Data Broadcast unit for our Peloton a while back and it was finally delivered yesterday! I'm eager to get home this afternoon to test it during a Intervals ride. I really enjoy the Peloton classes but during training season, if I can't get the data into TrainingPeaks, it doesn't count.

Started 75Hard ; on Day 13
Using the new Peloton just Walk / Just Run has been awesome. I haven't cycled much but I've done a TON of outdoor walking / hiking / outdoor biking and ruck marches - building back up my legs slowly after being a sloth the last few months...

Just did my first runner program day 1 (20 min) + another 35 min of intervals ...

Feeling good
