I might do that ride tonight. Sounds like it's a good one!

I loved the style/setup especially the section of surprise intervals, and (hopefully not too much of a spoiler alert) when AT goes on this 2-3 minute off the bike motivational speech it got me hyped to finish strong. He is a force!

Anyone try a ride with the new instructor- Bradley Rose?

I did his first. Wasn't terrible but not sure I found any reason to seek out his rides. Maybe I'm not his demo though

Seemed like he was trying too hard to be funny/silly and appeal to "both sides of the pond"

I'm sure he'll calm down though.

Played a new game tonight on the Dennis PZE ride from 2.23.21 with 5, 7, 7, 5 minutes in Z3 with 3 minute Z2 Recoveries.

On each recovery interval, I held at my Average Output for the ride, so I got to back off onto Z2 for the first recovery and then stayed low, then mid Z3 the last two and kept my output creeping up the entire ride.

Ended up almost exactly matching my prior (within 2 kj) from a 45 Minute Dennis PZ ride I did Saturday and feel much better after. Fun way to break up the monotony of a PZE ride and get a little more juice out of it.

I really need to. Bombed out of my last one after a vacation weekend and bad head space that evening. Getting some more strong workouts, brief taper, test, and on into the spring challenge.

That was...I'm still tryna find words to describe how incredible that ride was. That rant of his gave me damn chills (I'd actually forgotten about it until I looked up and he's like 6 inches away from the camera lmao). AT may not be everyone's cup of tea, but motivationally, his style is RIGHT in my wheelhouse. Bookmarked the sh*t out of this one!

Bravo sir...but I cannot let this stand....

In other news, is anyone down for a PZE session this evening (~5ish). I don't know what the sessions will be or how we could coordinate, but just a thought.

I feel the same way man. He's the best at pushing me on days when I don't particularly feel like getting my cardio in. He commands your attention and best effort.

Mannn, if I wasn't picking up kids/cooking dinner, I'd be so there! That's why I have to do my rides so late at night haha.

Hey folks... I've had the bike for a few months (love it) and now want to join the H&F board during rides. How does that work? What's the hashtag? I feel like I saw it listed once on this thread but I can't find it. Thanks!

I don't think there is one specific to this board. I use #Texags and #TexasAggies.

I've had my bike for a while and have mostly ridden with Ben Aldis, Emma Lovewell when I want more straight cardio vs power, and Matt Wilpers. Big fan of all 3, but I've seen the PowerZone rides and am curious how you test or find your baseline for the rides. The descriptors make it seem like if you don't know your zones you'll be lost. Any help?

You won't be lost per say. Whenever he talks about estimating your zones, I think if I didn't have my power bar I would go way overboard too early. Just enable your power bar and follow his instructions to get used to it. I would t worry about testing just yet, unless you are ready to go down that path. I wouldn't want you burning out on it before you really get started. I think most of us on here that do PZ training regularly would think differently if that was our first experience. Hopefully that makes sense. We will see you at 6:30 in the morning.

Best option is to take Discover Your Power Zones under programs. Walks you through the basics of power training and FTP. You take a murderous 20 minute test to find your threshold, and zones are indexed off that.

They also will use perceived exertion cues in PZ rides for those who haven't tested

Nitro's advice is probably the best. My introduction to it was to just do a couple of random PZ rides using the perceived exertion cues, and I definitely overestimated my zones at first (although the perceived exertion cues were a big help). I'd recommend the discover your power zones program just to gage your interest in the whole concept, then go from there. My main impetus for doing PZ was that I wanted class cues to be scalable to my fitness level--I wasn't getting that in the non-PZ classes following their recommended resistance/cadence ranges, and I sucked at figuring out how to modify the intensity for my own workouts.

I think I did 2 classes without a PZ test. I was tired of estimating. My first PZ test went so well I decided to do no a 45 minute Tibata ride after. After 3 more PZ tests I'm dialed in. I got the bike in July 2020

Is the power bar something already on the bike or an accessory? Probably a dumb question

To give you an idea of a pro cyclist's FTP, they are generally north of 400 watts and weigh between 125 - 170 lbs. Their watts / kg is CRAZY!

I'm currently at 330 for my FTP and have been riding since august. My goal is to get around 450 so I will have a 4.0 w/kg ratio. Goal is to improve 10% every 8 weeks

From a cyclist's perespective...these seem like crazy numbers.

Is there any chance Peloton is giving you guys some credit? 330 is fantastic by itself. That's a Cat2 FTP depending on weight.

450 is a pro cyclist.

What I've read is that the original bikes overstate wattage be 10-20%. Several folks have upgraded to Bike+ and had a significant drop in reported FTP with the improved meters and software. It would be really interesting to hook up some power meter pedals on a Peloton and have a direct translation from indoor to outdoor cycling.

Also 450 FTP at 4.0 w/kg implies weight of about 245#. Cat 2 cyclists on the chart I reference are in the 4.2-5.0 range.

None of this is to knock Traditions numbers. He's smoking me on a w/kg metric.

True. Not saying anyone is cheating or lying. Just shocking numbers.

We are thinking of buying one for the rib, and I will get to throw down on one myself.

I'm one of those who doesn't really care too much how close the Peloton numbers match up with outdoor riding, I guess. I'm not a cyclist, nor do I pretend to be. Just try to get thr most out of the training tool that is the bike. Mainly try to better my numbers against my own past performance, and stack up against those in my age/weight ballpark.

I'd never be so bold as to walk up to an actual outdoor cyclist acting like my Peloton numbers make me hot stuff or something lol.

I feel the same way. Just a personal goal to shoot for. Being a bigger guy 6'5'' 250 lbs the overall watts seem like the wrong goal to shoot for and to to focus on a w/kg goal. I am thinking next I want to get into outdoor biking and try the MS150

Highly advise MS150. This year it won't be "normal", as it is a one day event. Hopefully next year it returns to a 2 day event. The support is fantastic and the ride is fun as hell.
