Mrs Zaab wants me to get her one this weekend. I read around and it seems that they may have a reliability problem. Has anybody had problems or just plain pro's and Con's of these?

Thx.

My wife and I bought one for her August of last year. So far so good, and there is not a safer car out there.

How does the Honda Fit relate to the Volvo XC 90?

Honda reliability > Volvo reliability

Honda Fit = very compact car:

Volvo XC90 = midsize-large family SUV:

Did you mean the Honda Pilot?

Volvo >>>> honda

The Volvo has the capacity for 7. The back two seats are for kids only really. Not a ton of leg room, but my 8 year old and 3.5 year old love sitting back there.

We dont really ride in it that much, we usually are in my Jeep Wrangler on the weekend(4 door). The XC 90 is a great SUV, etc.

New Volvo's >>>>>>>>> New Honda's.

zaab - Here's my opinion (even though you didnt ask for it). The wife and I considered the XC90 very hard last time we were searching for a car. Volvo's reputation for safety speaks for itself. However, we found the interior apppointments in the XC90.....well....kind of cheap looking. Some that stick out were the headliner, visors, etc. If you're buying new, it's a very expensive vehicle, and we just thought for that amount of money, there were better choices out there, while still maintaining the level, or close to the level of safety. Another thing to consider is that Volvo is now owned by Ford, and they have intermingled some of the engineering dynamics of the two companies. (which doesnt bode well for the Volvo brand in my opinion.) We ended up going Lexus.

Just my .02.

I have the 2007 Auto Issue from Consumer Reports and based on last 6 years data in this report the wise decision would be to buy autos manufactured by Honda or Toyota.

Volvo XC90 gets a big black dot for reliability. If you just have to have a Volvo, the Volvo V70/XC70 wagon has the better reliability and is a "Recommended" buy by CR.

My 2 cents worth.

Wife drives a XC70. Never had a problem. Fun car to drive as well.

My wife also drives the XC90. We have had it for 2 years - never had a problem with it. It is a tank - get the 8 cyl.

You asked for pros and cons so I guess I will expand.

Pros:

Feels safe - it is tank like. I believe in roll-over tests, "they" couldn't get it to roll over.

It is fun to drive - with the 8cyl it is quicker than you think it will be, and drives great. Though I thought the BMW was more fun to drive, the wife didn't want it - and the BMW was about 10k more I think.

Ride quality - It is pretty quiet (though not as quiet as the Lexus alternatives)

Kid factor- my kids love riding in the back, and they love the screens in the head seat versus the top down we had in an older Tahoe.

Gas mileage - about the same as my tahoe... It's not good - but you know what you are getting when you purchase a heavy vehicle with a big engine.

Cons'

I think the interior is not as luxurious as it could be - there is more plastic than I would like.

The interior lights are sometimes hard to see in the day time.

I think the leather seats are not holding up as well as I think they should, though not bad.
