A friend asked about her daughter's car which is running rough. All I have ever done is spray the throttle body, but was wondering if Seafoam might be better?

May not apply, but gave my daughter my 2013 g37. I only used premium fuel while it was mine. Have been told it doesn't have to have it. But the ou gas where she is apparently sucks. It comes home running terribly rough. I put a bottle of something like Seafoam and fill it with Dallas premium a few times and it goes back to what i remember. Honestly think it is kore the octane than the seafoam.

It's the quality of gas, not the octane.

Why is it so bad there. She goes to normal stations, not hole in the wall places.

I used it on my ranger and could tell a difference after spraying the whole can through the throttle body. Between that and cleaning the MAF sensor, It increased the MPGs of my ranger by 2 miles.

I use seafoam on everything! Revived a chainsaw from the dead with it.

Use it in all of my marine engines. Number 1 failure on boats is bad gas.

Have taken apart an edelbrock truck carb and scrubbed parts with it.

It goes in the gas of all of my lawn power tools.

Without the details of your daughter's car, I don't know if it will help your particular case. Some people start with electrical, some people start with fuel. Fuel filters are cheap. If it is a newer car, might have to pull codes and start with sensors.

My mom had a 94 Lexus back in the day that said it required premium fuel.

That engine definitely knocked when you put something less that 93 octane in it.

This. I don't know that it doesn't work, so I use it in my gas mower and in my cars. 245K miles and going strong. Just need to find the oil leak, lol.

Even if it's not a hole in the wall, they may not have that great of gas. A Shell with high turnover (busy) is my go to.

That's the best stuff on the market.

What makes it the best? Genuine question, never heard of it and I just use b12 every oil change.

Do y'all just put Seafoam in with the gas? Just looked at the label and it says 1oz/gal for maintenance and 2oz/gal for more cleaning. Do y'all just do 2oz/gal at some interval? Thanks!

Multiple ways to do it - adding a can to the gas tank when you have ~1/4 left works pretty well.

Other way is feeding it into the intake to clean up top end engine deposits. This can be risky if you suck in too much at a time.

It has the highest concentration of PEA, the most effective fuel system detergent, on the market. As well, putting Seafoam in your car is a waste; that's for 2-stroke boat engines and not 4-stroke like automobiles.

Depends on many factors.

Miles. Age of plugs, how much short distance and idling.

Often times I'll get an older persons car that runs rough or idles poorly, I'll spray the intake/TB, BG44k in the tank and then take it out for a good Italian tune up and get it nice and hot, and that will make it smooth out. My mom drives 5K miles a year and all up and down memorial drive, the engine never works hard or gets warm. I'll take her car to service it, and blast it out on the freeway, and it will make it happy again.

That's been a standard service forever.
My grandfather said he used to do that when turning a wrench for GM in the 50's. Take that "just drove around town" and never really got into whatever the highest gear they were using then, and see how fast he could get to the next town over and back.

I know some of these places have it Amazon, O'Reilly's, Advanced Auto, Walmart.

Surely it's not the speed that matters, but the time at high RPMs. Is that what you're recommending? Are you trying for a high rate of fuel injection? If so, how do you produce that?

Yea, probably not speed, but high RPMs and getting things moving and warm enough to light the cats up too.

Never heard it called an Italian tune up. That's hilarious.

My dad called it 'blowing out the pipes'. We used to take my grandmother's car and run it hard once a year.
