No chit. Seems like $300 we'll spent. OP would have gladly paid that and thought she had a good deal.

She's actually really luck this lesson in buying large items cost her $300. Many on here have paid more for that lesson.

Will probably still pay for that stuff on the next one anyways though.

It is John and Shaun. I don't know why those people are listed on the paper.

Eh…I don't care about using the loans. They have a totaled car and have that as a means to make it work better, I don't really care. I do care about what seems like a massive rage over a seemingly small dollar figure that I can't imagine the dealership wouldn't fix to avoid the bad press.

I'm sure FLATOUT will fix it if she or her boyfriend speaks with him to explain what happened. But at this point, the bad press is already there, so what incentive does he have?

And I normally wouldn't care about using student loans to pay for dumb chit. They're the ones that have to pay it back, but when these people with massive student loan debt have the morons in DC wanting to forgive their debt with tax dollars they take from me, I have an issue.

Wow… we did not end up buying the car that they offered at ~$40,000 because it was just COMPLETELY ABSURD. It was completely Absurd to go from $33.5k to $40k. We asked them to price match the more expensive car to the price of the original one, since it was THEIR FAULT, and they told us to basically ***** off.

Just saw it and responded. I really appreciate your words Buck and hopefully I won't encounter another dealership like this again, especially with the advice aggies are giving here about where to go for a new car and how to avoid a situation like this again. I really do appreciate the help and advice everyone has been giving me here.

How has no one asked why the OP didn't just locate a car in the THREE WEEKS between the "total" of their old car at one of the THREE Hyundai dealers in the Austin area. Or Carmax, or online, or any of the dozens of used car dealers all over Austin to find a new vehicle? Or even look at other brands. Toyota, Honda, Kia.....

There is ALWAYS incentive to treat people right. The fact that we have FIVE PAGES of posts and no response from anyone at that dealer is about all I need to know about anyone associated with it. I am a business owner and 300 bucks is chump change. I wouldn't even argue it after seeing the situation. Just straight up refund and apology. While it probably isn't the case here, I've gotten repeat business from customers like this because I gave enough of a crap to make it right. Every screwup in my business is a chance for me to change how I do things and make it a little better for the next guy.

I have zero clue how any of this went down but I foresee a scumbag that saw someone coming a mile away and intentionally took advantage of them. The fact that "that's how far dealerships work" is used as some status quo and validation is a sad situation. It doesn't matter.

As for your loan issue, that's a whole other ball of wax and I agree with you on that as well. That's an issue for another set of scumbags. I saw several people I personally know get tens of thousands of dollars from the covid bull crap relief. I could have used three different payouts from separate businesses to expand but never took any of it because it would have impacted a loan I was trying to get to do the same. Even having clicked on the website to get details about that loan has people calling me about Collecting on it today, lol. It's a huge scammy joke. I'm all onboard with your feelings there.

If I'm going the full Dave Ramsey route, I'd suggest forgoing the entire college education experience. That's a massive waste of money in many cases.

FYI, agreement over the phone is not binding. Just so you are better prepared for negotiations next time. They needed to have signed the document agreeing to your bottom line.

It sucks that they treated your significant other badly. I will say that this is what you would get at most dealerships so hopefully you have learned not to trust what anyone tells you on the phone.
Verbal contracts are binding in many instances (one of the few exceptions is real estate). But they are difficult to enforce. I am not sure about auto sales, but I would venture to guess that a verbal agreement for an auto sale is binding. Is there a lawyer who can confirm?

Coincidentally, my nephew has been trying to buy a Hyundai in Austin and had a shady dealer shakedown issue of his own, causing him to back out. Similar start of not having the car they agreed to on the lot when he gets there, but "oh wait, there's a different one at the body shop from being damaged while being unloaded off the delivery truck. Let's knock out that paperwork." Nephew naturally balks at first, has questions met with shaky answers that turn rude. My nephew is meek to a fault; no way was he confrontational. He was a mark with no experience that they knew they could pressure. I was proud to hear he walked away.

Unfortunately, I think the economic situation of the past few years has resulted an industry (which already had a shaky reputation) getting even worse when it comes to predatory tactics

It took this long to start searching for a car because we had to go through total loss with our insurance, who needed the other person's insurance information before going ahead and finishing up with our claim. Our accident happened on 12/19/22 when we were in Dallas to see the Christmas lights, away from our home in Austin. We were hit by a 21 year old who merged into our lane, and were hospitalized due of the severity of our injuries. As a result, we couldn't get the other person's insurance information at the site of the scene until the police report was finalized, which was about ~14 days later. After we got this information, we were able to finish processing our total loss claim. We have been looking to purchase the same car we had before, and the only one that was in stock at the time that we started calling around to dealerships was College Station. It's also taken a long time to get back into dealerships since we've been dealing with a personal injury lawsuit to cover our hospital bills and (as of now) chiropractic appointments.

Like I said, it's difficult to prove in court, it turns into a "he said/she said" argument. But, verbal contracts are binding (with a few exceptions).

We actually just found out that the Tucson we last bought was from ReproAg's dealership in Brenham, which we had NO ISSUES WHATSOEVER WITH. I would HIGHLY recommend visiting their dealership in Brenham. We were looking to buy the same car from them this time around, but didn't see it on stock on their website, and decided to look elsewhere to try and get the car as soon as possible. Luckily, I'm in contact with him now and seeing if they have this same car!

I just went through all the dealerships to find the exact car/trim/color we were looking for but couldn't find it on those websites. We wanted to get the same exact car we had last time, a Tucson SEL FWD in a White Exterior and Black interior. We couldn't find any dealerships that had this car on the lot when we started calling around, until we called College Station.

Well the thread has since been crapped on so here goes:

Severity of injuries???? We walked away from this Wanna Buy a Ram 1500 | TexAgs with insurance info in hand from other drivers, got a total loss check within I think a week and was driving another truck within hours of receiving check DD'd from insurance.

First, I agree with OP that this was ****ty, especially with the known history of the dealer and the recent shenanigans.

Second, did they really just admit on here that they're planning on using student loans to pay for a car. Wtf? Brown must not teach a lot of personal finance classes.
