Why not try BAT? Worried you won't hit your ask?
Never sold anything on BAT, not really my jam and I've read on mud that it's become similar to ebay with people backing out after winning bids. I have no doubt I will get my ask or very close, and I've actually already scheduled a meeting with a local for Sunday. But in the off chance it takes me a few weeks to sell it, I'm hauling this sucker to Aspen next month.

My wife was just saying yesterday she wishes we'd added another garage when we built our house so that we have room for a fun car.

Might need to figure out how to fit this in the 1 car bay with our other stuff

We have a "2" car garage. The 40 took over the one spot left after our other **** stored in there. Wife's car has been in the driveway for 2 years now lol.

Haha - we've grown to accustomed to having each of our vehicles garaged in a 2 bay. A luxury is a separate 1 car bay that keeps all lawn equip, tools, etc, allowing us to keep the vehicle bay "pristine" with nothing to dodge. More important since my truck leaves little room to work around.

Might need to rethink how/what is stored in the single car!

Picked up an '06 Land Cruiser with all maintenance records since day 1, 161k miles, 2" OME lift, KO2's, ARB bumper, and Warn 9.5 winch. Picked it up in Tulsa and drove it home to Houston yesterday.

Awesome vehicle - plenty of power, no shakes or rattles. Super tight.

I pulled it off facebook. Still on mud classifieds but marked as sold at the moment. The guys that wanted to see it last weekend are rescheduled for next weekend. I need to see the two trucks I'm interested in this week before I let it go. This whole thing has been a mind **** and cluster****. And now a hurricane is supposed to make landfall on the tine the day I was going to go shopping.

I spent two years getting this truck mechanically sound enough to haul to CO and wheel. Go figure I sell it two weeks before my trip.

Added an FZJ80 to the garage. This will likely be my oldest son's first car. He's been dying to have something to work on, so we'll plan on this being a family project. My neighbor had this LC sitting in his garage and mentioned a couple of months ago he should sell it. I couldn't quit thinking about it and researched 80s for a few weeks before sending him an email to see if he was still interested in selling. He said he was and gave me a fair deal. Pricing on the 80s isn't easy to figure out. The ones with ~200K miles and no rust are asking $4K-$14K. The cheap ones are gone in less than a day and the expensive ones sit. Not many listed in the $7K-11K range that I could find.

The previous owner gave me a file with the last ~10 years of maintenance records. Just a bunch of leaks repaired and failed parts replaced. $500-$1,500 at a time.

On the list so far:
Repaint
Rebuild the 1FZ-FE (runs good right now with 173K miles, but no record of head gasket R&R, AC has slow freon leak, and PS pump is whining. Those are my excuses to yank motor, maybe add a turbo, but I haven't found a good bolt on kit with intercooler yet)
Replace all upholstery, recover steering wheel
Regear to 4.88 and add lockers (no factory lockers)
Add aux fuel tank or OEM sub tank
Aftermarket rear bumper (already has ARB front)

After spending the last 2 months outside of Texas, mostly in CO, I think we have decided to keep our 2005 LC and do some maintenance and mods to make it our summer adventure vehicle for next year. We tossed around the idea of buying a jeep, a sports car, etc., but we think it makes more sense to put some money into something we already own and love and have it as our run around/overland camping vehicle when we're in the mountains. So, now the fun begins...

I'm thinking 2-3" OME lift to start and an ARB bumper with winch. Definitely bigger tires, but I don't know what yet. May replace the back bumper with a tire & jack carrier and add a roof top tent. That setup that remko12 brought home last week looks like a great starting point. I've done quite a bit of DIY work but I think a lift may be beyond what I'm set up to do, or really want to do. I'd love to find a good shop that can do some or all the work, including the maintenance items. Any Land Cruiser specialists y'all would recommend? I saw the post about Northwest Design & Fab so that might be a good starting point. I'm in Austin but I'd be willing to take it to Houston, Dallas, San Antonio, etc for the right shop.

Any other advice? I need this rig to be reliable on the highway driving back and forth to CO but also capable to do some off road work. Don't plan to do any crazy rock crawling. This truck has almost 220K on it and I'd like to get it in excellent mechanical shape priority 1. We're not having any issues with it but it could use a tune up, timing belt, go through the cooling system, etc. Any reason to consider transmission work? Thanks in advance! I love this thread. The AB is responsible for us buying our first LC 17 years ago and we've owned at least one during most of that 17 years.

For mechanics in Austin, I went to the guys at Land Cruiser Specialist out off of 183. I needed some OEM washers for shocks, and couldn't find any in San Antonio. They had what I needed. Can't speak for their mechanical work, but would be worth checking out if close.

I'm not familiar with the 100 series, but read around and ask your questions on the 100 series forum on ih8mud.

If you haven't had a swing out bumper before really take note of how often you get into the back of your Cruiser. I had a spare tire swing out on my daily driver and hated it. It was just very inconvenient. I've talked to 2 other people who had swingouts and ended up removing them for the same reasons.

Also, drive or ride in a vehicle with the roof setup you'd like. I can't stand the extra wind noise. Some people aren't bothered by it though.

Awesome project and very cool for yall to do together. Wear the patina with honor. Unless it's rust.
4x4 labs, Trail Tailor, Slee, and Bump It make good rear bumpers to name a few.

I think you're on track with really baselining the truck. Throw on a modest lift, good ATs, sliders and you can probably handle more than you're realistically wanting to do in the truck. It will be very capable.

Duggy's here in Houston is a good shop for lift installs. Steve at Northwest in Clear Lake is a great mechanic. His passion is older vehicles but I bet he would work on a 100. I think Rising Sun is a popular Toyota mechanic in Austin. Folks in here can steer you in the right direction: https://forum.ih8mud.com/forums/tx-lone-star-land-cruisers-austin-chapter.127/

Did some cruiser shopping in Austin. Unfortunately did not seal a deal on what I was looking at. So I'm keeping my 40 for a few more weeks and taking it to CO. I've arranged a buyer for it after my trip unless I really screw something up. I've made some minor mods to the 200 for the trip including a BH3D cup holder, OEM wiper assemblies, and pulling the third row. I'm going to run a Veepeak bluetooth OBD2 reader and the OBD Fusion app to monitor things like mileage, coolant temp and oil temps while towing the 40 on a ****ty uhaul trailer. Also ordered a Jowett billet oil cap for my next oil change.

The highlight of the trip to Austin was meeting up with a mud member to see his collection of diesel cruisers and getting to drive his Panamanian HDJ80. LHD, 1HD-T and H150 5 spd manual. It's overbuilt and rolled coal on 35s.

I talked with Steve at Northwest last week and he sounds like my guy to do the work. Seems very up to speed with known issues and what needs to be done to get our LC in shape for another 100K miles. Really looking forward to getting this truck all fixed up and heading back up to CO next year. I'm going to start with the lift, tires, bumper and winch and we'll see where that takes us. Thanks again for the input!

Not sure if this fully counts, but have wanted a 200 series LC for a long time now - just picked up a really nice 2009 LX570 here in Houston. Love it already. Big change as I sold my 991 Porsche 911 that was my daily to switch to this as a daily plus will add track(hpde)/weekend car. Already deep into IH8MUD forums and have enjoyed this thread as well.

Lastly, the truck came with BARELY used Nitto Terra Grappler G2 tires in stock size (285/50/r20) that I have removed to add upsized BFG All Terrain K02's. I'm selling the Nitto's (see Classifieds section), so let me know if anyone here is interested in buying (asking $450).

I've been looking at silver LX 570's as well - I've had an 80 series Land Cruiser and now a 100 series Land Cruiser and considering going from two vehicles to one. But I'm torn, it's nice to have both a sedan AND the Land Cruiser, just going to one to save garage space and will have teen drivers starting in a year and a half - I'd prefer to get them something a bit cheap, which my current Cruiser kind of is but my oldest daughter thinks it's too big to drive. But if I go to a 200 series I want a silver exterior and black interior, and while I'd prefer a Land Cruiser the LX's can be $5K+ cheaper.

Have been contemplating selling my 100 and getting a 200, but decided I like my 100 too much and it's running too good to part with. Just some cosmetic issues bugging me as a result of prior owner and me being cheap when I bought it. Decided to get new leather, speaker grill replacement, new shifter, dash kit, and paint correction and detail. Looking forward to breathing more life into the Cruiser.

Am I this transparent? I'm really trying to hold on to a vehicle for more than three years. Contemplating replacing the 100 with a 200, the sedan with a Model S. Neither necessary, just obsessive auto dreaming I can't seem to turn off.
