Anyone replaced the motor mounts in their 80 series?

I have a quote for about $460 for oem parts and labor, just curious what people think.

Is it necessary to replace the torque strut mount at the same time?

TIA.

I have a 07 LC that I sometimes consider upgrading to a newer year. It is Maroon, has 160k miles, impeccable service history, nice BFG AT tires, and is only highway driven. For the first 115k miles, it was only used to commute between Austin and Houston and had a big bug shield and seat covers the whole time. As a result, cosmetics is a solid 8 exterior and 9 interior.

Any idea what it might fetch? $20k?

Any solid pinion spacer brand preferences for the high pinion 8"? Leaning towards Nitro. I remember last time I went through this having to buy 2 because the first one wasn't even close to fitting, but don't remember what brands.

I currently DD a 2015 Z71 Tahoe (30k mi on the clock) but would really like to regrade to a LC. I am in the infantile stages or researching but thinking I would look for a low(er) mileage 100 or an early 200. Say I had a budget of $30k, what would the TA auto board do?

200 series trucks still have crazy high retail. They do drive nice and feel good, but 30K for a 10 year old one with 160K seems crazy to me. The later ones got some powertrain revisions, like the 8 speed auto and the nifty crawl control, but the body remained the same, save for a few fresh headlight/tail light combinations. I do like the hell out of them though.

100 series are more comfortable than an 80 series, with the IFS and geared more towards folks who want comfort and all weather prowess. The early 100 series had some issues with the differentials, but later (02+) trucks were pretty solid. 03+ got a refreshed interior and the 5 speed auto. The 06-07 also got the revised VVT-i with a little more power. Keep in mind with the UZJ engine, it does have 2 things to keep in mind. 1, it needs a timing belt every so often, and you need to do the water pump at the same time, and 2, the starter is located in the valley of the engine, so replacement requires intake manifold removal. As I mentioned above, the IFS makes it not as rugged as the solid axle 80 series, but it rides and drives much more palpable for folks that are using it as a DD or a long distance hauler.

I love 80 series trucks, for their simplicity and ruggedness, but not everyone likes them, because a lot of people expect their SUVs to ride like cars, which is why car based crossovers have become such a big trend in the past few years.

I think its more the mfg can put out a cheaper product and people still buy it so they keep heading down the cheap light duty line with no repercussions.

You ever swap the 80 front spindle bushing to the needle roller thrust washer setup from a 100 series?

Thanks. Would buying a modestly built, well maintained fzj80 on mud be a good route? That could save me a lot of money on bumpers, rack, lights, lift, tires, etc. Then I can enjoy and fix/maintain it myself to learn.

I have a hard time justifying ~$15k on a stock locked fzj80 with <200k miles, then putting another $10k in mods into it when I see built rigs that look like they've been maintained well in mud classifieds for just a little more money. But then I don't get to do the work myself...

Unmolested is the best route.

Fair value for each of these, if in good condition? (20k for the 80 seems absurd!)

FWIW, my '10 has crawl control but only three speed settings...the later ones ('13+) have five settings.

No, but I heard lots of people interested in the swap. IIRC if you buy a new spindle from Toyota it comes with the roller thrust washer arrangement now.

Link to more pictures of the 1997 I posted earlier. That's exactly what I am looking for but the asking price seems a bit steep.

Edit: The seller just responded that she sold it this week.

Just posted a pic on the Paint It Black thread.

I honestly was originally going to buy a Maroon one (Brandywine Mica); then I thought the Blue Onyx Pearl was the best. But after looking at (a lot) of the new ones in the metal rather than online, Black is far and away my favorite color for this generation. Loving mine so far.

Some of it may be that it helps slim it a little. 200s aren't exactly slim, so the Black helps.

From my brief time looking for 60/62's - prepare to get well aquatinted with rust or prepare to separate with more cash than you initially deemed appropriate. Clean examples are at a premium but budget deals are buckets...

So open flame. Wooden drawer. wooden drawer above it. Operated in a territory without a flat spot to park anywhere. Designed to haul a weeks worth of essentials hundreds of miles from civilization.

Solid design

From a safety standpoint, I'd buy a 95+ FZJ80 because they at least have frontal airbags and ABS.
