Great short film and an awesome rough 40.

Thanks. Would buying a modestly built, well maintained fzj80 on mud be a good route? That could save me a lot of money on bumpers, rack, lights, lift, tires, etc. Then I can enjoy and fix/maintain it myself to learn.
I have a hard time justifying ~$15k on a stock locked fzj80 with <200k miles, then putting another $10k in mods into it when I see built rigs that look like they've been maintained well in mud classifieds for just a little more money. But then I don't get to do the work myself...
Unmolested is the best route.

The later ones got some powertrain revisions, like the 8 speed auto and the nifty crawl control, but the body remained the same, save for a few fresh headlight/tail light combinations. I do like the hell out of them though.

Pretty sweet 40 with a chevy motor.
No, but I heard lots of people interested in the swap. IIRC if you buy a new spindle from Toyota it comes with the roller thrust washer arrangement now.robertf03 said:Quote:

I think its more the mfg can put out a cheaper product and people still buy it so they keep heading down the cheap light duty line with no repercussions.
You ever swap the 80 front spindle bushing to the needle roller thrust washer setup from a 100 series?

Just posted a pic on the Paint It Black thread.
I honestly was originally going to buy a Maroon one (Brandywine Mica); then I thought the Blue Onyx Pearl was the best. But after looking at (a lot) of the new ones in the metal rather than online, Black is far and away my favorite color for this generation. Loving mine so far.

I wouldn't mind renting this.
From a safety standpoint, I'd buy a 95+ FZJ80 because they at least have frontal airbags and ABS.Texas300Mag said:
