Any one ever read this book? I remember reading it when I was a kid in Lake Jackson (and being scared sh*tless). I've recently re-acquired a copy and am re-reading it now as an adult - not nearly as scary now but still a great read.

Being from Lake Jackson, I am sure ol Brit Bailey is mentioned. Legend has him still hanging around Bailey's Prairie.

There's also a few stories about ghosts around the lake at Lake Jackson Farms. I used to go fishing out there all the time as a kid.

I'd always heard Bailey was looking for his head. We used to drive through there all the time when I was a kid on our way to Grandma's house...

I've looked all over those woods for that jug for the last 50 odd years and never found it either.

I saw him - it - whatever it is when I was a sohomore at Angleton HS back in 1966. One of my cousins and I were coming back from deer hunting in our pasture at Middle Bayou between Angleton and WC. I thought it was my Dad coming out of ur other pasture which was behind the old roadside park on HWY 35. The light then went to the tops of the trees, crossed the road and disspeared on the other side. We about s__t. When I called my Aunt Bigo (The ostensibly scary Catherine Munson Foster) to tell her she was loath to believe. Just jealous, my mother said. My Dad, his brothers and the man I was named after swear they saw it too years earlier. Since Big Sister was never graced with the pleasure, she didn't want to admit that someone in my generation of the family was so blessed.

We now live in Bailey's Prairie about 450 - 500 yards through the woods from where he was planted - standing up. facing west, but without his omnipresent jug, supposedly withheld by his wife, who figured he'd had enough whisky when he was alive - and the fickle sucker hasn't come to see us yet. Hell, I'd be glad to give him a drink.

Great book! Lived in Bailey's Prairie from 1978 until got completely on my own in '94. I can't say I remember seeing ole Britt but there were some spooky nights. Lived in Pecan Estates which is just east of the Oyster Creek bridge on HWY 35. We found an old cemetery across the hwy back in the trees. We would visit it for kicks until one day we went and found that somebody had dug down to one of the coffins. One of kids told their mother and it even made the news paper. Never went back after that. The funny part was I was going to take some friends of mine over there the night before we found it dug up but didn't go until morning. Good thing, I would have left them there!
