The ribs at Cork & Pig always smell good, but I have never tried them. KD's BBQ is ok.

gotcha, running around out there on business this week, just hitting some of the usual spots.

Tried La Herradura tonight...lots of food for the $. Had the combo plate with barbocoa & pastor. Good stuff!

There is a new Cajun place by The Bar- I have heard good things. Rue432- minimal advertising has happened but follow them on FB. Doing Crawfish boils often. Worth checking out.

Firewater Grill- not sure how much the actually cook but they are pulling in done good live acts on the weekend. Young owners seem like good people wanting to give Midlanders something to do. Do judge on the location...I felt safe and enjoyed the cheap brews.

I like Herradura. The Cajun place is good for a change but the food has been pretty average to me. Where is Firewater?

Save the Date! Any Suggestions? I wanted Martinez Bakery but was told they are closed on Mondays!

Next Monday- the 29th- we will have an impromptu AGGIE dinner. We are still checking into locations that are family friendly and that are Local Midland Staples. The plan is to meet and eat close to 6 or 6:30! We hope to see new and old friends.

I haven't tried the one here, but did in Pleasanton when traveling through there for work and it was good, too. You're right, too, that the one in Midland always has a busy line around lunch and dinner.

Wall Street sucked azz last night. Steak was tougher than 2x4 and the bourbon pours at the bar were weak.

I've never cared for the steak at Wall Street. Just my taste. They do have some other good dishes, though.

I took some people to lunch at Cork & Pig a couple weeks ago and noticed some new place to eat right next to it. Didn't catch the name. Anyone tried it?

It's now called red oak kitchen. Owned and run by the same people as CPT. It was actually called cork and pig market until just a few weeks ago. They are struggling which really stinks because they have great food and good atmosphere. Not as loud as CPT. More varied menu, incredible brunch on Sat and Sun. They have an amazing roast beef French dip. Several of the same items like The Pig pizza and some of the salads. Great fish tacos. I like it as much as CPT. Kinda depends on what you are hungry for as well. It's a little more casual and a little less expensive.

I should have updated. The wife and I went there Friday night. Just like CPT, the food was great. I had the ahi tuna salad, she had the New Mexico burger, and we shared an appetizer of the crispy rock shrimp. Anything I've eaten at either Red Oak Kitchen or CPT has been great. This place has a nice little upstairs section that can host small parties as well.

If you're looking for a tasty Greek spot, The Athenian Restaurant over by Polo Park on the north side of the loop has some of the best hummus I've had. It's popular around lunch, and if you go for dinner you can order the Gyro plate and it comes with 2 full gyros. Great for a cheap date idea! Wine selection is pretty solid as well.

Had a good meal over at Volcano sushi over by the HEB. Seemingly better than the other sushi/asian joints in town. Good sake/beer selection too

Fujiyama Sushi over by Midriff & the Loop is the best sushi I've found in Midland. Moon Garden (also on the loop) is great for other Asian staple dishes like dumplings, friend rice, etc.

I think the best Sushi in town is at Volcano. One in Midland, one in Odessa.

Also, Grub Burger is really growing on me.

First time trip to Midland these last couple days. Only got two chances at dinner. Took you guys up on the Grub Burger Suggestion and it did not disappoint. I got the Lockhart Legend Burger with Sweet potato fries. It was delicious, the waitstaff was nice, and I enjoyed the atmosphere.

Second night out we went to Rays Bistro for Italian food and it was fantastic as well. Got the fettuccine fortuna pasta with shrimp and crab and stuffed mushrooms appetizer. The bread they put on the table was really good too. Wish I would have known that it was BYOB because lots of folks had brought in their own wine and beer. They don't charge a fee for that either. Highly recommend this place. Probably a good idea to make a reservation. We did not know that and almost left because it was an hour wait. The lady that helps run the place took pity on us for being from out of town and not knowing so she got us a table together. Don't judge the book by its cover since it's sandwiched in a shopping center between Subway and a Dry Cleaner.

Really try to make it to Martinez Bakery for a Super Torta if you get a chance.

Hi,

Just found this forum. Class of 75.
I lived in Midland in 1978-1980 and haven't been back since (not that I wouldn't love to return)

Anyway, there was a BBQ place on the Odessa hwy on the west side of Midland that was really good. I cannot remember the name but would surely recognize it if someone can name it.

Thanks

Must be before 1993 when I got here, unless I just forgot it.
Johnny's is downtown.
Michael's Charcoal grill was on Illinois, and had a ceiling covered with model planes, hard to forget.
Maybe someone else can help you out.

Hopefully they can find people to staff it.

I've been going to The King and I, a little Thai place on Big Spring just north of Louisiana. Also I like Tampico Spanish Inn for a good Mexican food lunch, they have a sour cream sauce that makes everything taste good. Good salsa too.

I'm anxious to see what happens with King and I now that the owner has retired and left it to his daughter.
