10th Anniversary meal, The Garlic Press or Churrasca? Any other ideas. It'll likely be a lunch. Going to take a vacation day and make a day of it.

Have you tried the Athenian?

Yes it was great but the husband doesn't care for it.

On another note, Spicy Thai in Odessa is quite good. Building is a dump but the food makes up for it.

If you ate downtown at Cancun or Luigi's you could also walk over to Bourbon street or Cigar Frogs for a drink

We stopped by El Banquete last night but they were closed (and looked like they had been for a while). Drove down the street and stopped at La Herradera. Turned out to be delicious Tex Mex. Refried beans were some of the best I've ever had. Salsa was fresh with a little kick.

That was the whole reason I wanted to eat there. We were disappointed to find it closed.

Craving a greasy burger dive... Go to Tater World in midland on south Garfield... The green chile cheeseburger is one of the best I have had!

We still go to Dos Compadres in Odessa at least once a week before coming home from work.
I like to switch up between the Asado, Guisada, and Chile verde and my wife always gets her #13 the Cheese enchiladas.

We had lunch at the Brazilian place today. Was just as good as Texas de Brazil. Service was fantastic and pricing quite reasonable.

Best tamales in town?

Tamales aren't a big deal in Midland, best bet is finding a friend of a friend type deal.

I like Saucedos Tamales on South Grandview in Odessa.
Greasy spicy goodness.
We had a contractor come in from Houston and he ate there every day for lunch.

It is Steak 42 and it is very good.

There is a teacher at Midland high who does Tamales all year long- I will try and remember to get her contact information and post it.

Food truck parked outside of splash of class on a and Wall is really good too. Try the brisket grilled cheese.

They said no you do not. (I have not been there in a long while, but any restaurant in Midland Odessa is a different place after 6pm - as in packed) So YMMV.

My wife and I never have issues going anywhere if we get there before 6 like LoudestWHOOP! said. After 6, we sometimes have to wait about 20 minutes.

Lots of reading material in here. Made it through most of it and now want current suggestions for:

(1) Mexican - tacos, enchiladas or combo platter
(2) Burgers - maybe Brooks or Tater World - open to other suggestions

I finally ate at The Athenian the other night and really enjoyed it. I couldn't stop eating the pita bread and the Greek salad was delicious. I'll definitely go back.

I grew up in Midland, but spent 4 years at A&M and 10 years in Houston before moving back 2 years ago. I love that Midland now has some high end places like Garlic Press, Bill's Bistro, Cancun and Churrasca's. Along with the old standards like Wall Street and Venezia's, we're in decent shape there.

I'm also a huge fan of Cafe Unique and Athenian. Nice departure from the sea of Tex-Mex and standard American food joints. Hopefully people will go enough to keep these places in business.

I may have missed it on this thread, but Shahi Tandoor in the Grand Texan hotel is really good Indian food that I haven't seen mentioned. It's not all that nice inside, but I think the did quality is comparable to what I've had in Houston. They also have a regular menu for non Indian food lovers.

One thing I really miss here is good fajitas, which is surprising. Does anybody know of a place with good fajitas in Midland? I'd love a Lupe's or Papasito's. I've tried all over town and can't really find anything that isn't mediocre.

I like Dos Compadres in Odessa for beef fajitas.
My wife and I used to eat at La Mision in Midland for Beef Fajitas when she worked downtown.

Curious what other think of the Texas Soul Food Cafe in Odessa on Grandview.
Now only open for lunch I believe. 10:30 to 2:00 pm.
I really like their catfish and my wife just loads up on the veggies especially the cabbage.

I haven't been to that exact soul food place but several years back I went to one in Odessa and is was great. I didn't drive there so I am not sure where is was (SE side of town in a neighborhood).

Have you tried Scotty's in Midland? It is also soul food but they close early in the evenings.

I have been trying some of the food trucks as I see them. Cane d Oro Pizza is good for a brick oven pizza and they make a point to be around major Midland events. Poor Boy's & Rich Chics Cajun Eats is really good too, a bit pricey but good none the less. Tall City Dawgs is parked at The Beer Garden nightly and I like that there is food there as an option.

Fit2Go is premade healthy meals (gluten and dairy free) and they are tasty. It is located in the shopping center in Midland off of Midland Drive and the loop next to Heros Fitness.

The Midland A&M club is talking about having a few dinner socials throughout the year- I will be using this list to suggest ideas. If you know of places that would be group friendly, split checks easy, with great food and a place where it is easy to socialize please let me know! Happy 2016!

Anyone do good BBQ ribs in town? The only BBQ I've had in midland is johnnys downtown, which was mehhhhh
