Sure it does. There is no comparison.
I don't know, I think they are pretty similar. Similar in size, college towns, and great people. Both pretty flat. It's just that College Station actually has water and trees.

Badmouthing College Station in comparison to Lubbock is one of the most ludicrous posts I have ever seen on Texags. Ignorance of the growth and prospects for CS is amazing to me.

High Plains has its high points, yes! Inside the loop in Lubbock, and Palo Duro. I'll dare you to draw 100 and 200 mile concentric circles around Lubbock and College Station and make a winning argument...

I will say the Overton/Broadway area adjacent to Tech's University Ave. absolutely blows A&M's Northgate out of the water

No comparison

Lol

Yeah I'll get right on that

Stretch it to 250-400 and I'll take Lubbock

But that's because I like the mountains better than anything within 300 miles of CS

Even NM Mountains, which I love BTW

But you make a good point ..... yes, inside the loop, I'd say Lubbock is about even with CS. Maybe a little better. I do like high plains climate better than east central Texas 8 months out of the year

Tech (Kirby Hocutt & Co.)recently fired 2 of the best coaches they have ever had in BCG & Leach & could not have handled either situation worse.

They were fortunate enough to hit on 2 really good coaches simultaneously and in short order.

I moved to Austin after graduation because it was the opposite of College Station. I couldn't stand College Station as a city after my 4 (and a half) years.

That being said, even College Station isn't complete dog **** like Lubbock is. I feel like it's not even close, really.

Recently?

Leach was fired 10 years ago, 2 years before Hocutt got to tech

And you really think tech was wrong to fire BCG when they did?

Yes, awesome music, diverse selection of top-notch food & drink, top tech companies moving here regularly, plenty of great places to raise a family, and mostly nice weather year-round.

How incredibly foolish of me.

Huh?

I just told you Hocutt wasn't at Tech when Leach was fired

And BCG was a train wreck when he got canned

It won't last long way out there, boys. Sips will be calling their basketball coach home pretty soon. Maybe tech can hold onto that baseball coach long term though. He's an alum.

I had a D1 Head Coach tell me one time, "Any coach that wins a conference championship in Lubbock, Texas, should be the coach of the year."

Did the coach say that about Larry Hays? He did it when the conference was deeper. It's really not that hard. Kids in at least six nearby states and California have and will love to play there no matter who is coaching. That's before and after they were hiding academic money from the NCAA.

I have to laugh when I see these posts about Lubbock being a dump, etc. I have lived here for 28 years, and I can tell you that while it certainly has it areas that might qualify, for an adult that wanted to raise kids, have a good job, go to a great church, and develop lifelong friendships over those 28 years, it has been awesome. Those of you that are acting like BCS is heaven on earth have not been to some parts of the area that might surprise you. Grew up in Austin and you could not pay me to live there now, though I get it is great for some folks.
I cannot speak to how Lubbock compares to BCS as far as appealing to a college recruit. Been too long. As for how Tech has had so much success lately in these two sports, they hired the right guys. It is that simple. If and when Woodard decides he needs to make a change, it will be on him to hire the right guy.
There may not be time to do the job right, but there is always time to do the job over!!

I agree and he is making $3.2MM per year in Lubbock, TX.
Too bad this thread derailed with a bunch of shots at what it is like to live in Lubbock or Austin. I don't think this was the OP's point.

A good discussion might have been about how a strong professional AD who is left alone to do his job with the support of senior administration should be out finding and hiring the highest quality coaches. Someone at Texas Tech is getting a solid return on these two hires. We have seen a ton of RC's work and returns and IMO the ROI is not very good considering how much time he has been and the resources available. I would like to see a change with baseball.

Re b-ball - I had high hopes for BK, acknowledge he has coached 2 teams to the sweet 16 and has tourney appearances, has probably done his best coaching job this season and of late, but am ready for a change.

What is confounding in all of this is baseball losing to Incarnate Word then going to this weekend tourney and beating 3 top programs. Loved winning those 3 games vs Baylor, TCU and uh, but also wondering if there will be consistency.

Saying that Lubbock and the high Plains = College Station and the Brazos Valley is not a place to start.

Eh. The high plains has its good points

As far as the cities themselves, Lubbock is probably as good or better. Bigger, plenty to do, decent restaurants and night life

Lubbock is remote from very large cities though, which is a negative for kids coming from Houston, Austin, Dallas to some extent
lol at people acting as if College Station is on a different level than Lubbock. The greatest thing about BCS is that it's close to nice cities.

Think about that for a minute.

Chris Beard, disciple of Bobby Knight, coaches lo his mentor but without the knight drama. He and Tadlock are two of the best, and they are at their dream jobs. Story behind the story is that their AD has reversed several sports in the past 10 years into national competitors: baseball, basketball, golf, now softball and soccer has been in a top 10 for a while, plus track n field for longer. Kk did a lot of good, reversed the decline, despite the record (I live in lbk).

Aggie from Lubbock here. Most people dont understand that Lubbock has almost 300,000 people in it, so it's not Starkville like most believe. Until TCU came in it was the second largest city in the Big 12. The only reason it's hard to recruit there is the proximity to major cities. Other than that it's a pretty nice town. It also costs half as much to live there than anywhere else, even College station. There's pretty decent baseball talent in west Texas as well, at least relative to football and basketball.

Greater Lubbock area is over 300,000 people. I actually think Tech campus is a much better laid out campus than our own. Taos is under six hours. Wolf Creek Pass, CO in under 8 hours. Palo Duro and and the high plains are beautiful. You get to live 300, 375, and 500 miles away from people that think Dallas, Austin, and Houston are great places to live.

Plenty to like about Lubbock.

You're both right. I lived in Austin for 10 years. It's a great place for a lot of reasons. Yet, a lot of their policies and laws have turned a few of my liberal friends republican conservative. The bag policy, the influence on surrounding towns etc. Austin is both an oasis and a little too wacko at the same time. Honestly, though, what I loved was Austin's proximity to the Hill Country and to College Station.

I'm glad you found a place that matched your personality Hickory. But let's just hope they tap the breaks a bit out there in terms of laws and policies. It can be over the top.

Honestly don't see a point to this thread. First, Aggie Baseball has a great weekend. Can we all just enjoy that and wait to see how the season plays out? Second, this basketball team has scratched their way to winning games. It's hasnt been pretty, no. And questions regarding the overall direction are warranted. But all this BS about so and so "passing us" is so dumb and unnecessary. It's insecurity at its finest. Who cares what other programs are doing? I just want us to win. But some of you just want to be miserable and contrarians rather than rational. It's why I think some of you pay for accounts. To say "look at me! I can see the sky is falling and you can't! Aren't I cool?" If that's how you want to live, good for you, I guess.
