We don't need a new stadium...but if we build one can we please get it out of the middle of nowhere south of the Med Center?

....you want it to F up traffic in the middle of somewhere that you live?

Wes-numbers' comment sounded like a transplant wannabe-hipster comment that wasn't even worth replying to.

Yes, people do actually live south of the Heights or Montrose. And yes, the traffic for NFL and Rodeo events is better suited to the loop than Downtown.

right, I think that it is far from "the middle of nowhere" (actually I sell homes about 10 minutes away from it/the new Helix project), but its conveniently out of the way, so you can get to it easily, but it doesn't make downtown anymore miserable than it needs to be.

What are your favorite bars and restaurants to walk to from NRG?

the Sheraton used to have Hopidillo on draft in the lobby bar

But seriously I get what you're saying. The lack of bars and entertainment options around NRG suck, but at the same time they have plenty of parking. It's a double edged sword. If NRG was downtown it wouldn't be able to accommodate parking for 70k. Especially if a baseball game or something else what happening on the same time

We wouldn't tell you if we had any.

But history has taught us that it really doesn't matter to the families and corporate buyers headed back to Silverlake or Sienna or wherever. There was a time when the dome was surrounded by bars and ****, before most of us were born, but the population grew outwards. Hence our comments about traffic flow on the loop.

If cool people were the key demographic, Astros and Rockets games would be packed in the Spring. They're not and they never are outside of opening weekend.

Not enough ways to drink at Texan games or the rodeo! What if I want to drink 500 yards from there???????

Blow up and haul off the Astroturd.
Now you have plenty of space for an entertainment sports complex next to the stadium.

Publicly financed stadiums is a thing of the past. Municipalities don't have money for that. I'm not a huge NRG fan but that's what we have.

On the flip side, I love MMP (yes, it's still that as the signage hasn't been completely removed....).

Lot of yall forgetting about East River.

It's the perfect place for Cal and the Gang. Plenty of space with a great view of Downtown.

People can boat to the game while churning up dead bodies in their wake. Kayakers can also paddle to the game while dodging mostly submerged Buicks.

Let your mind wander a bit and you'll find the answer.
Crap.

This is the answer. In fact, I now believe it is the ONLY answer.

Make it happen.

We've been trying for years. We thought we had it done and Ed Emmett screwed us all over. And that's the reason that we have Dora the Explorer for a county judge now.

This is a dumb statement.

Outside of the Superdome, can't think of any football stadiums offhand that have a vibrant and teeming nightlife full of bars and what not anwywhere close.

Arrowhead - not even close
Tampa Bay - nope, nothing close
Jerryworld - nope, nothing close
Arizona - not really close unless you like walking a mile or more I suppose
Denver - has a hotel and some micro brew in the general vicinity. But far from this super awesome nightlife you think we should have that everybody else has
Chargers - has a casino within walking distance, but that's it.

Betting most of the other stadiums not in Philly or New York are much the same. Even Soldier Field doesn't have squat around it to speak of - and they drink like fish in Chicago.

Just to add…. Nashville has a pedestrian bridge that goes across the Cumberland river from the Titans stadium to the Broadway area.

Sounds like we have a long history of building these stadiums in the middle of nowhere.

JerryWorld has TexasLive which is usually a complete ****show with hammered folks for events at JerryWorld.

TexasLive has the benefit of also having the Rangers so it's more nights a year.

Crane is looking to do something similar where The BUS used to be.

It's been a while since I've been to Atlanta's new stadium but they did real well with the adjacent entertainment venue.

That's for baseball and I agree it's not really as important for football unless in the same area. There's just not enough games.

The Rodeo angle will be interesting because Rodeo needs a MUCH bigger footprint than the Texans need.

The Titans and Bill are currently building new stadiums with public funding. While the Jags procured public funding for a massive renovation/rebuild. In fact the only team in recent memory that got a hard no on public funds was the Chargers.

Once again TexAgs aligns with California politically.

I was there for all the Chargers drama. They were so dishonest in their dealings that when they moved they lost a massive portion of their fan base. Because they were so greedy and refused to pay anything. They not only wanted the stadium built on the public dime they also wanted to own the land. Which was owned by the water dept and state law dictates fair market value when they wanted it as a gift.

Now the Texans want to bounce with 30 years of payments left. They go scree themselves.

No, it's not.

People voting us into debt via bonds. And slowly the entire rax burden then makes it more difficult to pile on more debt that may be justified.

Same reason I vote no on any school bonds for stadiums.

I definitely dont. I do think the facility could use some upgrades, but I don't feel it NEEDs the built in-restaurant/bar host space. Sure money can be made there but not enough to make up the cost of the facility and definitely not enough to warrant the country building it for them. If the Texans and Rodeo want to partner up to pay for it and keep the profits, then sure. And I'm not in construction at all but I would think field level suites and extra club space can be added for much less than a new stadium. My thought is the Texans are asking for more than what they really want so that when the county comes to the table with something that actually is feasible, both parties can feel like they won.

I spend about 12 hours or less per year in NRG. The gross food options, food service staff and prices are a nope for me. Pretty sure I can drink a few 25oz beers without the need for "premium features."

Therefore I believe I fall outside the demographic who wants to crowdsource a new stadium or renovations via some voting event.

What if we did a reverse. Turn the entire NRG park into a parking lot. Build new stadium in eado, and everyone can take the light rail to and fro.

I still don't understand what's wrong with it. The only specific thing I've seen mentioned is that there are no luxury suites on the field level.

Restaurants, bars, etc is silly, they play 90% of the games at noon on a Sunday.

It's probably just the fact that they can't get any superbowls now, and the rich and elite love those events.

And 90% of their fans are already drunk, or plan to be, shortly thereafter.

I get what people are saying. But, it is cool to have a place to go that's not a tail gate after the game to have a beer, food, and watch other games. I've done this in Arizona, Arlington, Green Bay, and Nashville.

I've been a season ticket member a long time and if you offered me an hour or two after the game in air conditioning with food and drink while traffic filters out or sitting in my car not moving, I'll take the former.

Tear down the dome and make it into an inviting complex.

these stadium owners are making $ with other events at the stadium, its no longer just the teams in there. I would argue there are not many on this thread that have been in more places in that stadium than me, and it definitely has issues on top of the other events I mentioned.

Whoa, I was just thinking that NRG hosted a super bowl recently but that was in 2017.

World Cup will be there next year, should be a good time.
