How long do you want to ignore this user?
anybody else getting emails from CenterPoint apologizing and claiming they are doing massive amounts of hardening between now and the end of the month?

Essentially a concession that they were behind on their job.

Pleasantly surprised this is actually a map.

I saw earlier on tv someone from Florida Power and Light basically telling Texas "hold my beer":. They said they had like 17K crew standing by and don't expect the problems that Texas had. Should have power restored to those who lose it within 12 to 24 hrs. We shall see

Those who lost power...did you at least get a lower energy bill this month? I spent over a week with a broken window (thanks landlord) and ended up at $440 bucks

Had practically the same experience down to the dollar value.

Uhh...FL has lots of trees. Especially around Orlando and the panhandle.

Recently drove to and from there. Lots of trees.

Had a team with a tree trimming bucket truck with a "Disaster Relief" sticker on the side come through my neighborhood yesterday.

The older dude was riding in the bucket, ripping a heater, staring up at all trees that overhang right of ways, and removing dead/damaged limbs. He extended up in to my water oak and took down two damaged 3-5" diameter limbs, his helpers piled it all on the curb, and they moved on to the next house.

First time i've seen the city do that in my neighborhood, so that's good I guess.

Yup.

Northern half of Florida is covered by trees, including a whole lot of pine trees. The closer you get to the northeast coast and Georgia border, the thicker it gets. Jacksonville, Gainsville, etc are all similar to the Piney Woods in terms of tree composition and density.

It's been ten years since I've seen Centerpoint do any vegetation management.

Saw the same thing in my hood today. Looked out the window about 6:30pm and saw the bucket truck and helpers sedan parked in front of my house. Helper gal was a hefty black lady with long finger nails. Thought they might be about to trim my tree or something. Watched for a minute and saw them passing something back and forth between the dudes in the truck and the helper on the curb. Turns out it was just a good place to burn a J.

You're welcome. After all complaints about CenterPoint's lack of communication, I thought four calls in seven minutes was worth noting. They called a fifth time to say the power was back, in case you were wondering. Still not sure how almost 6,000 homes lost power for about an hour on a sunny day.

My thought is being without power for a few hours right now shouldn't be surprising. I'd wager there are lots of temporary fixes that need to be corrected, trees leaning on lines still so power needs to be off to remove them, etc.

Now, the lack of communication about it is not at all defensible. A couple weeks after the derecho it happened to us. They thought 6 pm on a weekday was the perfect time to shut off the power with no warning.

If they would have even given us even just a 30 minute heads up, we would have gone out to eat for dinner vs. having something in the oven....

That's been the issue I've had week before this storm.

CNP needs to notify people in a group when they do work. At it could or could not go off, but at least let me know. We've had a couple close calls where dinner finished and power went off. It was still light out so we could eat, but it is frustrating.

It would be more tolerable if I hadn't already experienced multiple outages like this over the last year or so. Some of which CP denied even happened.

Most likely a blown fuse at the transformer. Go out to the pole and see if there's a fuse dangling on its hinge.

Any vegetation in the lines that would cause them to touch?

Unfortunately, I can't go out right now.

However, I reported the pole last fall after 20+ hours of unexpected outages because there was literally a tree growing up and around it.

I reported it the first time, and CP ignored me. I had to escalate the issue to The Woodlands Township for them to come out and do the maintenance.

CenterPoint's contractor came through today. Remembering how they badly butchered my trees last time, I went out and painted the 5' wide aerial easement on the ground before they got here. My wife ask the foreman to confirm that they would not cut outside of the aerial easement. Now that the crew has gone, I went out to take a look. They cut a path about 15' wide. Just pisses me off that now I have lopsided trees because they don't respect property rights.

Pretty sure you don't have a 5' aerial easement.

And you know this how? "aerial easement 5' in width from a plane 20' above the ground" is what I have and it is fairly common. What easement do you have?

Add my name as another person Centerpoint has pissed off

Came home to a yells tag on our door that said connect gas meter checked, note sayin did maintenance to meter in other, meter installation checked, and told us to call to reschedule. We never scheduled anything with them in the first place.

Go to cook dinner and my gas is off.

It's after hours so only rep I could speak with that the emergency line. She said she would schedule someone out tonight. Gave her my number and gate code. Fast forward an hour and half, get an email saying they were unable to complete the order.

Give Centerpoint emergency another call and they said the tech couldn't enter as it didn't have the code and no one would let him in. Rep said my code and number was in their notes.

Now we have to wait til tomorrow morning to get them to turn my gas on see why they turned it off in the first place.

(This months bill was paid Monday)

What is your ground easement ? I'm going to venture to say you have 10' ground easement.

That 5' is in addition to what is on the ground.

So they trimmed your trees that were in their easement properly.
