Add my name as another person Centerpoint has pissed off

Came home to a yells tag on our door that said connect gas meter checked, note sayin did maintenance to meter in other, meter installation checked, and told us to call to reschedule. We never scheduled anything with them in the first place.

Go to cook dinner and my gas is off.

It's after hours so only rep I could speak with that the emergency line. She said she would schedule someone out tonight. Gave her my number and gate code. Fast forward an hour and half, get an email saying they were unable to complete the order.

Give Centerpoint emergency another call and they said the tech couldn't enter as it didn't have the code and no one would let him in. Rep said my code and number was in their notes.

Now we have to wait til tomorrow morning to get them to turn my gas on see why they turned it off in the first place.

(This months bill was paid Monday)

I'm not officially advocating this but you can go out to your gas meter and where it comes out of the ground there will probably be a small tab with a wire through it that looks sort of like a padlock. You can clip that wire and remove it. Then, there's like a square head that resembles a bolt-head on a pipe coupling. First, you need to use a pipe wrench and remove that coupling because they'll probably have inserted a small, flat, plastic disc into the pipe to block the flow of gas. Remove that and reattach the coupling. Then you can turn that bolt head and restore the flow of gas. You should hear it start to flow a bit and the meter will spin slowly.

Then you're back in business.

But again, I'm not advocating you do this to circumvent Centerpoint's bureaucratic failings.

at this point i'm about to turn it on myself!

Late last night they told me they would have someone sent first thing and we were up on the list due to their mess up. Well no one has showed or called. I contact them and they said they schedule their techs for between 8am - 8pm!!

Who the hell schedules a 12 hr time window? They cant seriously think people will stay home and wait all day as they require someone over 18 to be in the house...

Great, the tech came out to turn the gas on and now my water heater isnt working.

He couldn't get it to turn back on and told my wife we have to call a plumber. He thinks its a bad control panel.

Funny how everything was working just fine until they randomly came out yesterday.

You can't re-light your pilot light?

I'm not home but the tech told my wife that he couldn't.

Could you maybe facetime your wife and walk through relighting the pilot light? Maybe the gas meter turner oner dude isn't the most qualified to light pilot lights on random water heaters, despite being willing to give a go?

The last time my pilot light went out, I had to hold the reset while lighting the pilot because it takes a while for the thermocouple to warm up.

You are warming up the thermopile to generate a current, which 'powers' the unit. But the point still stands. Need to get it to heat up so when you go from start-up to running, it'll stay lit.

Interesting, that isn't what I think was happening. My pilot was lit but the thermo trip had failed so it was tripping the system. I went in and replaced it and when I went to relight the pilot, I had to hold the reset like a startup bypass until the pilot had warmed up the thermo trip long enough to where it had made temp.

At least that is what I understood as a controls engineer. But I also had a bad TA in college.

I'm so glad I never TA'ed a controls class in graduate school. But I did have to play one for some kids trying to heat up water in a drum in a basement.

Mine is a little finicky to light, because you have to wait long enough for the gas to flow through the burner again, but not too long. Because if you wait too long and try to light it multiple times the airspace under the waterheater inside the skirt gets too rich with gas and it wont' light, so you have to wait until it vents itself out and start over again.

But once you get the pilot light going and hold the ignitor button down for 30 seconds, it's good. Usually see the main burner kick on about 15 seconds after I put the control knob into run position.

Centerpoint needs to get in a backyard because of the house next door and gave the homeowners a 3 day window on not letting their dogs in the backyard.

it's not even their problem.
