Weren't you changing oil every 3 hours? Nobody gonna love it like that. (wink, wink)

Seriously, very generous offer. Still good people in the world.

CP did make sure they sent me my monthly gas bill. It seems that part of the company is working effectively.

I don't know why y'all argue with LA06. Based on a post several pages back, he already believes he's the smartest person on the thread. It's simply not worth your time arguing with that level of arrogance.

Turning that responsibility over to a private monopoly was a terrible idea.

You want a completely government run organization to do it all? Just want to make sure I understand, bc it really does seem like that is what some people on Texags want.

CP has royally screwed the pooch on this response.

****ing *******s who only care about penny pinching to make their KPIs and get their fat bonuses.

I am so ****ing pissed. The CEO's head needs to be served up on a silver platter (metaphorically) and somebody with true, on the ground operations experience needs to get the job.

It's obvious there are ZERO KPIs written in their employment agreements that consider customer satisfaction or uptime. Absolutely none that actually have an impact on the customers they serve. There is no incentive to do anything but increase profits.

**** them all right in the ass with a cattle prod.

I'm assuming it's way too far gone to ever put this kind of change in place, but at this point I'm not sure why power infrastructure should be treated any differently than roads. Obviously not ideal but at least you would remove the profit motive from the group that's managing it. The monopoly + profit motive is the problem. All incentives for them to perform adequately are gone since customers are forced to use them, leaving cutting costs and making as much money as possible the only incentive.

A government run organization would be 10X worse than CP.

More government is never the answer.

Crazy how much b*tching I have seen about "capitalism" from leftists on social media. As if this slimy arrangement isn't similar to what you'd find down in Venezuela or something. There is almost nothing "capitalist" about a government implemented monopoly, which is basically what we have. Zero choice for us means zero incentive for them.

I don't know the answers, but I am not surprised by their shortcomings over time. This is crony capitalism at best. As a buddy said the other day on a rant about taxes and the lack of benefits we reap from it, "the mafia offered better protection for their communities and took less money". Cant say I disagree.

Agreed. Seems logistically and legally impossible but the only other answer I can think of is to force them into a non profit, and as a part of that, all profit is required to be reinvested in improving reliability, pre-purchasing and storing equipment, an emergency bank for disasters like this, etc. But unfortunately it seems like we're stuck with this band of corrupt idiots crapping the bed every time during our annual weather disaster.

Capitalism only works effectively if there's competition. Once a for-profit company has a complete monopoly on an essential service, there's zero incentive to meet any service goals because it decreases the bottom line. I don't think anything would be improved by having the government take over and provide all utilities (shudder) but there needs to be a way to force a company like Centerpoint to improve offerings and service and utilizing their profits rather than raising rates while sitting on a $1B+ profit. As someone pointed out we already pay among the highest rates in Texas.

I don't know what legal options are there and again, not looking for a government takeover - the only thing more terrifying than Lina as our county XO would be Lina as our electrical utilities XO - but something needs to change.

I'm not sure that's true. Government might be incompetent, but have we got now? Someone posted a link to the CP board and said there wasn't a bit of industry-specific knowledge in the bunch. But they have folks who know how to turn a profit. Record profits, poor performance, and Rolex-wearing, multimillionaire CEOs with the AC cranked while people swelter in their homes is a recipe for disaster. Whether right or not, people blame that on capitalism and decide to look for other solutions.

I don't know that government would be better, but there has to be a way to get someone in charge who has making sure the Houston area has electricity as their job description, not maximizing profits for corporate masters.

I find it very, very unlikely that the acting governor didn't call the county judge of the the biggest city in Texas that was just hammered by a massive hurricane. Even a self-serving tool like Dan Patrick knows basic political azz-covering 101. Lina is so out of her depth she doesn't even realize she's in a pool, much less drowning.

The consequence for Centerpoint's failure is customers going to their more expensive natural gas for a week. They need one or the other.
