Hey at least it's getting close. I wish Centerpoint would greatly expand the cleared row space where the overhead lines go thru trees. Like 50 or even 100 feet on each side of the poles/ wires. Lots of places huge trees are practically touching the lines going thru timber. No wonder it's a cluster F after a storm.
Clear the damn row space and mow/ and or spray chemicals each year to keep it clear. The pipeline companies do this for buried pipelines so why can't electrical companies figure it out also?
I've heard the overhead lines in our area are currently down in numerous areas. Which takes a while to restore.

I looked at the new map this morning and thought "Wow! My daughters's house is in green now!" Apparently meaningless.

Just let people be frustrated man. You're only making it worse. Let it go.

Imagine trying to play goalie for CP right now when a good amount of people are going on no power for day 5 now. Especially when they've got so many out of town crews here ready to rock & roll. Just absolutely unbelievable

What exactly do you expect to happen the week after a hurricane? Not just that, but the third event in 2 months?

I have no problem with people being frustrated. The last couple of months had sucked with the storms. My neighborhood was involved all 3. I just don't get all of this outrage that doesn't appear to have merit.

If the information being relayed is lies about how many have been restored than get out the pitch forks. Otherwise what taking place here isn't frustration, but just weird manifestation of hyper negativity. It's like y'all believe you've been personally wronged, but can't actually explain why.

The biggest difference to me is the downfall of social media. Just like this thread the majority of things posted aren't correct, people purposely choose to not believe what is correctly posted, and worse purposefully use it to fuel hate. With Ike this didn't exist.

People weren't sitting inside looking to be miserable and complain. We looked twice a day for updates and went out and volunteered and helped neighbors. People now look to find ways to amplify the negative where before we looked to find the positive in relationships built with neighbors while it took weeks to get power.

The comment about me on the golf board is correct and it's for the same reasons. I can't explain why the mob mentality gets under my skin, but I wish it didn't. I just hate when social media mobs go after people or companies to trt and ruin them or cost them their jobs only to shrug and walk away later like nothing happened when it turns out it was completely wrong. And yet the very people who justified their actions in the name of holding others accountable now strangely face no consequences for the jobs or companies they impacted.

I don't work or have anything to do with Centerpoint. I worked in capital projects in similar industries. I imagine there are a lot of Aggies who do work for them and I imagine there's real frustration for them in seeing things like this thread.

This makes me think they should know WTF they are doing, and how to do it expeditiously.

Edit: txags92 beat me to it. But here are the numbers:

Quote:

CenterPoint Energy annual/quarterly net income history and growth rate from 2010 to 2024. Net income can be defined as company's net profit or loss after all revenues, income items, and expenses have been accounted for.
CenterPoint Energy net income for the quarter ending March 31, 2024 was $0.350B, a 11.82% increase year-over-year.
CenterPoint Energy net income for the twelve months ending March 31, 2024 was $904M, a 12.58% increase year-over-year.
CenterPoint Energy annual net income for 2023 was $0.867B, a 13.99% decline from 2022.
CenterPoint Energy annual net income for 2022 was $1.008B, a 27.53% decline from 2021.
CenterPoint Energy annual net income for 2021 was $1.391B, a 246.58% decline from 2020.

Interestingly, we can see how they are managing to keep their net profit positive:

Quote:

CenterPoint Energy annual/quarterly operating expenses history and growth rate from 2010 to 2024. Operating expenses can be defined as the sum of all operating expenses for the given industry.
  • CenterPoint Energy operating expenses for the quarter ending March 31, 2024 were $2.004B, a 10.46% decline year-over-year.
  • CenterPoint Energy operating expenses for the twelve months ending March 31, 2024 were $6.702B, a 13.04% decline year-over-year.
  • CenterPoint Energy annual operating expenses for 2023 were $6.936B, a 10.56% decline from 2022.
  • CenterPoint Energy annual operating expenses for 2022 were $7.755B, a 10.96% increase from 2021.
  • CenterPoint Energy annual operating expenses for 2021 were $6.989B, a 9.56% increase from 2020.

Remind me again who managed their Operations teams the past couple years...Oh yeah...their new CEO Jason Wells.

I see what y'all are saying but on the other hand, nothing is stopping anybody from buying stock in Centerpoint and reaping their share of that profit in the form of a 2.64% dividend.

But the average person would rather spend money on an iPhone 15 Pro than buy stock in Centerpoint.

A government owned and operated not-for profit entity might not be the answer either.

It's pick your poison.

CNP has actually been a really bad performer relatively speaking. "Nothing is stopping anybody from buying stock" ya except opportunity cost. I doubt anyone ever has said should I buy an iPhone or should I buy this utility stock to help offset my electric bills. I probably pay $6,000/year in electric bills …. Would take almost $225,000 invested in CNP to get that back in dividends every year.

Just because you can buy stock and "get in" on the profit in the form of a dividend doesn't make their business practices right.

Our xfinity is back out this morning.

This may be a stupid thought….bit what are the odds this generator is plugged into the xfinity equipment and when it runs out of gas our internet goes down?

It's done in and out the last few days now

I think they know exactly what they are doing in the sense that they burned through their emergency repair budget during the derecho. Now they are slow playing the contractors to use the least amount possible. Call me cynical. But compare the responses. There was no talk about "trainings" and "call ins for service" after the derecho. Just a bunch of people getting to work.

Driving through GO and shepherd park this morning - not a single CP truck to be seen. I did see one crew taking pictures of a downed pole with transformer on chamboard yesterday - the pole is still down. I hope our delay is not because the damage is minimal they are slow to get here. There was extensive damage from the wind storm and crews were out much quicker.

Yep. I have as little faith in the government as possible but if the state was running this at least they would be likely ****ing it up out of incompetence and not out of cutting costs/trying to get as much profit for their pos leadership team as possible.

CenterPoint Energy sought the money from a new $10.5 billion Department of Energy program that is helping utilities, states and local agencies protect the electric grid from the growing threats of extreme weather and climate change.
How much tax money is wasted under the nebulous banner of 'fighting the effects of climate change?'

Fighting the effects of climate change is code for wasting money on things that don't concern you ot have anything to do with your life.

They want to spend your money to fight climate change, but not the climate change in your own house when the power is out and it's 105 degrees at night.

Fighting the effects of climate change is hardening the electric grid for windstorms caused by climate change.

Just got this update. It might be helpful to people adjacent to Creekside Park but not in The Township. I know the service crosses boundaries.

As a side note Centerpoint should have their service area subdivided into smaller areas and have the appropriate staff to communicate this type of information to EVERYONE.

ATTENTION CREEKSIDE PARK

CenterPoint is onsite restoring power in our community. They've identified the problems and are working in full force to restore power. CenterPoint has provided the following information to the Township.

For the areas east of Kuykendahl and north of Creekside Green to Lake Paloma, then following Lake Paloma to Creekside Forest, the majority of customers should have power restored by 8:00 p.m. on Saturday, July 13. Remaining customers requiring localized repairs expected to have power by 12:00 p.m. on Sunday, July 14.

For the areas south of Creekside Green between Kuykendahl and Gosling, the majority of customers should have power restored by 12:00 p.m. on Sunday, July 14, with remaining customers requiring localized repairs expected to have power by 8:00 p.m. on Sunday, July 14.

Please note that these timelines are estimates and weather-dependent.

The Township Board and staff will continue to stay in communication with CenterPoint throughout the weekend, providing additional updates as available. All updates will be posted to www.thewoodlandstownship-tx.gov/alertcenter. Thank you for your patience and cooperation.

I've been very pleased with Entergy through all of this. They have a detailed map, give updates every morning and evening, and are very responsive. Now they serve a much smaller customer base here vs CP but overall I have no complaints.

I saw a ton of trucks after the derecho. Not a single one so far for Beryl. I just drove long point from Wirt to Campbell and dipped in and out of neighborhoods. Not one truck.

Although the pupusa lady is out on the south side strip center parking lot off Campbell and Long Point behind 7 Taco, so I know where I'm having lunch today. So I've got that going for me, which is nice.

Anyone in west Houston/Katy need to borrow a generator?

I have a 6250w with half a tank of gas and 2 additional 5gal cans filled and ready. Ran 2 refrigerators, several lamps, a window AC unit, and a lot of box fans, and plenty of device charges and never went over 35% use.

All I ask is you care for it and monitor the oil

PM me if so. Or just reply here and quote this post so it flags me
