All right, here's one where I messed up. The garage door opener for my new house is a step up from the one at my old house, but I have always had trouble with the release when the power goes out. So Monday, when the power went out, it didn't want to release. I give it a good pull, and it comes free, but it doesn't feel right. I must have broken something. Crap. I'll deal with it later.
Sure enough, when the power came on, I can't get the door to re-engage. On my old door, the release separated the driver from the rest of the door. On this door, I can't find the piece to reattach it. Maybe that's what I broke. So I call a repair guy.
Long story short, the repair guy (after arriving a hour-and-a-half late and trying to sell me a new, $1,700 opener) tells me it will be $350, if he can even fix it. He says he's not sure. I agree. In five minutes, he pushes the reset button twice, uses a screwdriver reset the chain around the piece I thought I broke, then asks if it will be cash or check. What a racket.
