Just got an email from centerpoint telling me that my power has been restored (it has) and that the crew determined the outage was caused by a hurricane. Can't make it up!

Got that email after power was restored in May. It said the cause was strong wind. No sh**!!

Didn't realize there was a change.

So looks like Jason is making $7M. The last CEO was making $37M. So where did that other $30M go? It wasn't for maintenance, repairs, or vegetation.
A big chunk of the previous CEO's compensation in 2023 was probably a golden parachute. He wasn't making $37M every year.

You talking about Scott Prochazka?
No, Lesar. But for some reason I was thinking that the big $33M stock award he got came in 2022 when he announced he was retiring, not in 2021 when it was actually given to him. That $37M # was from 2021 when he got the $33M stock award. His 2022 salary was not that different from what Wells is making now.

If it was my job to write those, I would probably throw in some random reasons for the outage. Like "The Spanish Inquisition".

I have a feeling I won't be getting power until mid next week, maybe even next weekend. We have been blue on the map for days with no estimated restoration time. While I take Nextdoor, Ring app, or Facebook posts with a huge grain of salt, I've seen a few from our area stating they called Centerpoint and apparently while the assessment was done, there is no crew assigned to repair our area nor is there any estimate on when repairs will be completed.

The email I got yesterday said the outage was caused by equipment damage.

As opposed to outages caused by working equipment, I suppose.

None of this should be surprising.

This is the guy who cut costs to boost profits and was rewarded with it as CEO.

Boeing parallels. Take running a company that provides a critical service away from the guys who know how to build and fix stuff, and put it in the hands of a group looking to maximize profits by cutting corners. At some point it WILL bite you in the ass.

I just saw a CP truck in my neighborhood, but he was the look at **** guy. I asked him if he had any idea when we'd see a crew to start fixing stuff, and he just laughed. AFAIK he's the third person who has driven by to look, but we need to see fix **** guy show up.

100% agree...Much of what he said probably wasn't correct there...I just found it interesting when I looked at the CEO's bio that the dude is purely a numbers guy, but also the guy who helped them get their record profits.

Did some recon in our subdivision in the 459 (Carriage Park off Steep Bank Trace E)...there is a long section of lines along a dirt walking trail that have been pulled down by leaning or fully fallen trees, and a couple of those trees were pretty big. One pole was leaning, but none were snapped.

There was a crew working on it (truck was from Michigan), but they didn't have any idea of a timeline for clearing all of that foliage.

Those trees should have been pruned back a long time ago...waiting on Mother Nature to do it was unwise.

Power went off randomly today at noon. Got our first communication from CP at 4 that it was planned maintenance, with a restore time of TBD. Wtf is that

Part of what he said absolutely matches up with what my BIL's next door neighbor told him. As mentioned in my prior post, the neighbor worked for Centerpoint and it's predecessor HL&P for 42 years. Talked to the one crew in our area who told him they only had 3 tickets for the entire day.

All right, here's one where I messed up. The garage door opener for my new house is a step up from the one at my old house, but I have always had trouble with the release when the power goes out. So Monday, when the power went out, it didn't want to release. I give it a good pull, and it comes free, but it doesn't feel right. I must have broken something. Crap. I'll deal with it later.

Sure enough, when the power came on, I can't get the door to re-engage. On my old door, the release separated the driver from the rest of the door. On this door, I can't find the piece to reattach it. Maybe that's what I broke. So I call a repair guy.

Long story short, the repair guy (after arriving a hour-and-a-half late and trying to sell me a new, $1,700 opener) tells me it will be $350, if he can even fix it. He says he's not sure. I agree. In five minutes, he pushes the reset button twice, uses a screwdriver reset the chain around the piece I thought I broke, then asks if it will be cash or check. What a racket.

Does the release lever pivot 90 degrees?

When I pull mine down for manual release the lever turns down. Then I have to manually rotate it back up 90 degrees for the door to reengage on the track.

Mine pulls down, and the plastic piece that engages the chain maybe retracts some teeth or something? I can't exactly tell. It definitely doesn't come apart into two pieces, which is what my last one did.

wtf is xfinity doing while we are talking about ****ty companies? They've been out this entire time too (even if you have power) and I haven't heard a peep out of them.

Very time I check the web for Xfinity, the update is basically just "we'll get to it when it's safe". That's it.

Our xfinity went out Monday afternoon. Came back sometime Thursday, then back out Thursday evening. Then we weirdly had cable but no internet Friday evening. And now that's out, too.

At least the credit process from the derecho was pretty easy….

What was the credit process? They reimburse you for any days it was down? How'd you go about doing that?

I saw a CP truck working on the corner. Went over to ask if he could reset our breaker (above). Nice guy. Happy to talk. His job was to fix traffic lights. He was working in a box on the light pole. He could not help me. He was not allowed to touch power lines. Not his job. In fact, he did not have a hot stick.

He could not contact a lineman on his radio, only his department. If he needed a lineman to finish his job, he submits a ticket and moves on to his next job. A lineman will be assigned to do repairs after which he will get an order to come back. He said lineman were at the Target up the street but they would not come without orders. He was sincerely nice and understanding. He had met many people like me today. He'd also met people that were very irate. That didn't help either.

We're still without power.
