If he doesn't need it, I would like a chance at it and dont mind paying.

CenterPoint's response was that they have a larger area and so we can't consider per customer, but a simple check says CenterPoint is showing record profits each year.
Eh, I'll give them that. I grew up in Splendora, which is land wise is larger than West U, but West U is ~9 times more populated.

Yes I can appreciate the argument...but looking at the numbers, we are talking significantly less per customer than Entergy who has the densely populated Woodlands area. Entergy nearly exceeded CenterPoint.

SO while I can grant the unit rate argument, the total dollars spent doesn't help them either.

It's clear they skimped on maintenance to pad their bottom line.

It's why having a for profit monopoly is just such a terrible idea.

One of the multitude of fixes needs to be mandated spending levels forced upon CenterPoint.

I've said multiple times that Centerpoint flat out told us last fall that they don't have the money or staff to properly maintain the lines - both vegetation and old/failing equipment. I got the impression staffing was the bigger issue.

I drove past the line that was repaired to restore power in my area. There are still branches and limbs falling/hanging on it. I don't expect repair crews to do extensive trimming, but I was a little surprised they'd do this repair and leave stuff resting on it.

Imagine telling the public you don't have the money for vegetation management when you cleared over $25 billion in profit the last 4 years.

I know, it's absurd. But this was not a guy in upper management. I suspect his budget is tightly controlled to maximize those profits at the top. Not justifying it, just acknowledging that I understand how corporate bureaucracies work.

Right. Vegetation doesn't have the budget to properly do their job because corporate won't allocate the resources that they clearly have.

So corporate says "we didn't have the money or resources to do it" when they did, they just didn't allocate it

This is just what I saw… but on Wednesday I saw 100+ trucks sitting at the Tomball football stadium off 99. I just couldn't believe how many were just sitting there "staged" 2 days after the storm.

Yesterday when I rolled past there were only 2 or 3, so at least they were out doing stuff.

In my hood, I saw 8 trucks with guys just sitting in them for 8+ hours on Wednesday… apparently waiting for instructions or maybe hardware? No idea, but it appeared wildly inefficient.

Speaking on inefficiencies…

Stoerner on the radio on 610 said he has a buddy who is a lineman in San Antonio. His buddy reached out on Monday around 5 checking on him. His buddy didn't make the out of town cut, but said they had a crew heading out THE NEXT MORNING. Realistically, there was a lag of a day to a day and a half that there shouldn't have been in this particular case. Not to mention that when they did make it to town, they had to go thru a training…

Those guys should have been in Columbus by Monday afternoon and here getting trained Monday afternoon/evening. Then they would have been ready to roll Tuesday AM… not show up Tuesday at lunch and spend the rest of the day training.

if it helps, I didn't read it that way. I think that was directly to the the guys concern about not knowing if the shingles were his or not and not be sure who to trust. I think it was general advice, not directed.

I sincerely appreciate the offer. I have some thoughtful neighbors that have power also so I always have a place to cool off when necessary. Otherwise, I might be more irate. I have neighbors that are worse off. I'd hate to abandon them when I have the best view of the street. The pole is not on the street and I don't want to miss Centerpoint if they come by.

Thank you for your kindness!

Just FYi, my BIL lives next to a former Centerpoint lineman. Worked there his whole career and retired from there. He rode around our area and found 1 crew working the other day. Talked to them about what was going on and what orders they were receiving or weren't.

He told my BIL. This is the most disappointed he's ever been in the company. Far and away their worst response.

So for all those posters saying we are just whining. You're wrong. Centerpointless is indeed ****ing this up. Likely to save a few bucks.

Saw somewhere that they're regulated by DOT rules for the trucks, so they are required to be off for 8 hours. Not sure if that's accurate, but I do know the CP bucket trucks have DOT numbers on them, so maybe it is.

The CEO is an accountant, and accountants tend to view the company as a spreadsheet that is optimized for max profit and not an entity that has an obligation to customers that depend on them.

Mine is currently in Webster but you can use it if you want I can help you coordinate to get it. I am going offshore tonight so can't actually facilitate. It will need a break in oil change though as it is brand new.

that seems to be what caused/is causing the delay here

late on the response because they didn't want to overcommit based on anticipated severity

so they ended up with their dick in their hand

CEO should go back to PG&E in California

That sucks. Hopefully it makes it. How old is it? Once this is all over, I'd get it into a small engine shop ASAP.

But you need to cut down every tree on your property within 100 yards of a power line first.

My question is why is a monopolized public utility being allowed to make a billion dollars a year in profit? Particularly for service this bad. They have zero risk and will be allowed to recover any losses in the form of future rate hikes. So why are they allowed to make so much for a zero risk business? I bet there are at least 10 companies out there that could do a better job that would gladly do it for a fraction of that profit.

good bull. I can see how someone would get defensive in her shoes, but like I said, I could tell you didn't mean it that way.

I really appreciate how the squabbles in this thread have gotten solved after a little bit of time and "sorry I know I'm cranky" realizations!
