They are actively rebuilding parts of my circuit right now, know that for a fact, and they have no estimated date on my circuit. Honestly I believe CP has no idea what is going on. Estimates are best guesses and where they have no estimates they have no idea/no information. The map is not linked to anything live in any way and is likely manually updated - a trainwreck of information

Well, my power was taken out by an oak tree or pine tree before I was mean to the person so maybe karma already got me. Maybe you two mental midgets can work on the plan to remove every tree in Houston based on his dumbass suggestion.

Seems like Centerpoint is taking a lot of heat over the sight of trucks assembled at a staging area.

This seems consistent with every hurricane response or logistics operation we've ever seen.

Machinery and personnel are staged. Work orders are issued and resources dispatched.

Problem we got here is people are so use to just in time inventory, same day Amazon Prime delivery, Uber eats dispatched to their doorstep at the click of a button to solve whatever problem they got.

People have been lulled into thinking the world moves that fast when it doesn't.

This is my whole issue.

Honestly...Is 3-5 days really that outrageous after a hurricane blows through the 3rd largest metro area in the country?

I think people are generally outraged by the lack of communication. The hurricane destroyed lots of infrastructure, but it did not destroy centerpoint's ability to provide eta's and maintain an accurate outage map. If people had an estimate for zip codes/neighborhoods people could actually plan a little better.

The inability to communicate accurate updates makes centerpoint look outrageously incompetent. Yes power being down for a few days is expected after a hurricane. But how long is anyone's guess. I left town Tuesday and currently have no idea when I will be able to return. Hoping before the weekend, but I have no ability to plan it out right now. Very hard with young kids, dog, etc. to just go somewhere indefinitely to escape + try to work remotely by the way.
I think it's a little more than just staging too. I was on HWY 6 heading to CS today and I met the convoy headed south of bucket trucks. This was about 8 AM. They wouldn't get to staging for at least another hour at least before they could get checked in and assigned probably. On-site at 10 at the earliest? This puts them working in the hottest part of the day as well. . .

Don't forget about the safety trainings that all these guys have to go through before starting any work. And obviously I want them to be safe but like come on - they aren't first timers.

For real. They are linemen driving their own eqpt. These companies should have standing agreements with each other that their linemen are trained and qualified. These people learned nothing during this training and I promise none of them wanted to be there. BS safety training like this is why people in dangerous occupations don't even want to go to actually helpful training.

Come on. You of all people should understand this. It would like pulling you off one ship and asking you to captain another setup completely different in foreign waters without any instructions or training. When things went bad, you'd be the first person pointing the finger at the company for lack of training.

For those that don't know, the simple briefing people get to walk through a refinery or industrial facility is way shorter and very different from the technicians working on the dangerous systems. The fact that was even discussed highlights the complete lack of understanding of so many on here.

Guys who do nothing but throw the kill switch to lock out tag out machines get week long certification/ training regularly. High voltage even more so.

I don't disagree but it's all moot for me at this point. They used that system so much for their own stupid **** (like regular Covid stay inside or die red flag warnings) that I will have it forever disabled on my phone.

No power here. At this point I'm not upset with Centerpoint, given the destruction in Kingwood. I feel like they knew the first 1 million wasn't going to be too hard to restore. The remaining chunks will be more difficult. I haven't followed many other areas of Houston.

Heat index well over 90, sometimes over 100. That's hard work for the linemen. I know I'm dripping in sweat when I spend 5-10 minutes outside tinkering with my generators.

I'm mentally prepared to get through Sunday without power. My tune might change by Monday afternoon.

Click on magnifying glass, enter an address, and the map shows a dot. Click on the dot. It may show an estimated date or say they're stull assessing, even if blue paint. FWIW my dad's address was blue, with no estimate as of a few minutes ago, and he just got power.

I'm guessing the crews out working in an area are giving estimates on when they think everything will be up and running for the whole area. Or hoping...

If you have an out of town crew they are assessing, if you have centerpoint they are fixing. Just my thoughts. We've got centerpoint trucks all over so hoping it is fixed soon

For the The Woodlands just some comments on my experience from Ike.

Actually lived in Dill-Ag13 subdivision at the time.

Centerpoint area in Sterling Ridge - 13 days w/o power.
Entergy area in The Woodlands - 5 days w/o power

I think part of it is just Entergy has a lot smaller footprint in the area. They can focus more resources on problem areas than Ceterpoint can.

Go over to Tiger Droppings and they feel the same way about Entergy as people in Houston do about CP.

My mom in Del Webb still doesn't have power.

My plan? My plan is to be more self-sufficient next go around and not rely on anyone else. I have a generator that has kept us coolish, but not big enough to keep my family comfortable. So I am going to upgrade my generator so that it won't matter how long I am without power.

Do you think making an incredibly stupid suggestion of chopping down trees within 100 yards of any electrical infrastructure is an actual plan? Are you going to present this to the city council? Doesn't matter what I or anyone else here suggests. I can only control what I can control.

I saw this posted in a FB comment, and I'm pretty sure this is what is now standing between me and power. I'm now trying to decide if I want to book the last room I can find at an extended stay for check in tomorrow and move there for a week. My wife and I both have to work from work next week, so I won't be able to stay home tending the generator for more than a couple of days. With no updates from CP on estimated timelines or if there is a workaround to get our power back without that major repair, it's next to impossible to make a decision.

I understand it is CYA but I visit probably 100 ships per year of various types and arrangements and I get no safety training on any of them, and if I were to get any, it would essentially be "go stand over there in the event of an emergency". A large part of my industry is standardized, which I would imagine applies to electrical distribution work as well. I understand what you're saying and I understand they need to CYA and this stuff is dangerous, but I would be very very surprised if these people were getting more than 5 or 10 minutes worth of actual useful information. At a minimum, the safety guys for cenrterpoint, of which I am sure there are many, should be available to give this to incoming personnel upon their arrival. When emergency situations hit, normal workday schedule goes out the window. I seriously doubt it would be that difficult to have 2 safety guys working 12 hour days to get the incoming lineman their critical training.

Because at the end of the day it sucks not having power and as soon as your out you want it back.

It wears on you mentally walking around your house flipping light switches that don't work, showering in the dark, and having absolutely nothing to do.

You're gonna be pissed at your provider no matter who it is.

Got power back in Memorial Parkway in Katy last night around 8pm then lost it again today around 10am. Just got an email from CP that they have noted the outage that is affecting 59 customers, so I feel like we're going to be bottom of the barrel for repairs. Oh well, Wenny(yes I named my Wen generator) is keeping the beer and portable ac cold.

She should send out a safety warning to tell everyone to set their gas cans on the ground when filling them up.
I have told 2 different people this when I've been out filling mine. Dudes filling up on their tailgate.
