I got rid of xfinity last year and switched to ATT fiber. I NEVER thought I'd be a "cord cutter," but aside from 1 large and 1 small internet outage, I've been decently happy with their fiber offering.
I have ATT fiber and it was a champ in May. I'm still out from this one. Neighbors are on, I'm the only and ATT can't give me an estimate. I walked the line yesterday between my house and neighbor that is online but can't find the break. I know fiber is very finicky but I'm not expecting to be back for a while.

The bigger frustration is we still get zero data service in our neighborhood. Calls will somewhat work but text/data is totally shot.

Can we take a quick sec and pivot over to how bad xfinity is blowing this situation?

If fiber is offered at your house you should absolutely have it. Especially if your other choice is Comcast

Terminal B was a breeze this morning. Wide open, able to check bags and no line in security. This at 7:15am. Parking garage was very empty too. Some restaurants opening back up but not all. Chick Fil A is open.

Were all the traffic lights back up? That was the biggest pain in the ass on Tuesday

2-3 days without power after a direct hurricane hit over one of the largest cities in the US is the min. Nothing will change this without enormous expenditure that no one will ever do

My exact sentiment. Leave if you'd like to. It'd probably make Houston a better place!

This is why I say that everything is getting worse. "Well it will be massively expensive to fix everything and no one is going to pay for that." This is the attitude that leads to doing nothing that makes the situation continually get worse.

I drove in from the south side, straight to Terminal B. No issues or really even traffic. I looked over at Terminal C parking garage and there was not a line to get in or around the terminal like there normally is.

Terminal B is very quiet this morning.

100 yards? You know most lots are 55-150 FEET wide right?

That would mean, unless all electrical is underground, that neighborhoods would have ZERO, Z-E-R-O trees.

I own 2 acres in a large lot neighborhood and have 26 live oaks, and three 150+ year old pecan trees. My lot is 78 yards wide and 122 yards deep. So you're telling me that EVERY tree on my property needs to be cut down or I get fined?

Ridiculous, and who gave this fool blue stars?

Y'all can go live in a 100-story apartment building.

This seems ill advised Centerpoint, it's not time to be patting yourself on the back.

You're right about that, BUT Ike right Galveston and then went east.

This storm swept across HUGELY populated areas west of the loop.

You knock out most of Fort Bend County and that's a metric **** load of people without power and LOTS of space to cover to make fixes.

CP is failing on the strategic management side of things big time - but don't think you can blame the individuals in the trucks on that.

One of the CenterPoint people "said no I wouldn't have done anything differently" in response to criticism of their preparation and handling of this.

maybe their preparation was appropriate. But this is not the answer you give.

State should mandate no trees within 100 yards of electrical infrastructure and give providers 1 year to clean it all up. Then heavy fines if an outage is caused by a tree falling. If a tree is on private property and the property owner refuses to let it be removed, the property owner receives a fine if the tree falls and causes damage.

I have seen so many poles, transformers and lines down this week from downed trees it is nuts. So easily preventable.

F*** freedom and private property rights…you must have been one of those people that was all for forcing everyone to get the Covid shot. What booster number are you on? GTFO.

I agree Centerpoint has issues for sure, but more people need to look at the expected results from a Cat 1 hurricane based on the Saffir-Simpson Scale.

This was a direct hit of an intensifying hurricane on a major city. We received extensive damage to power lines and poles...

I'd argue that a big part of the issue is too much information for most people. During IKE you didn't have this kind of info coming at you. More information does not solve the problem most of the time because it just gives people more things to attack. People sitting on forums seeing others get their power back is just pissing them off further.

When asked about the decision to not request more mutual aid workers from out of town after Beryl hit, he said money had nothing to do with that decision.
"Money had nothing to do with it ... does not come into the calculus when making these decisions," Carroll said.
He said that when it comes to pre-hurricane preparations, he wouldn't have done anything differently.

I'll say again this storm should have been a layup for Lina

this is about a sweet of a spot as it gets. all you have to do is manage public expectations and try to keep spirits up. the power is coming back on. people are back to work. this is a pain in the ass not a catastrophe. this is where you build a rep for being something other than an empty suit.

she's an abject failure.

Yeah, that's terrible. And people are defending them…

So we don't think, looking back, that it would have been a good idea to have the crews staged closer, trained, and ready to go on the afternoon of Monday vs waiting for Tuesday to even start training?

I think people are forgetting how bad Ike was….

Remember the blue tarps on rooffs everywhere?

Power was out for days if not weeks

Only saving grace was the cool front that arrived after Ike's departure.

I think part of the problem is individual circuits are coming online once they are ready and tree free. In Ike there was more of a focus on getting everything in the substation service area fixed and ready to go, then everyone came on at once. I know the substations themselves took a lot more damage during Ike so this may have been a necessity. There wasn't a lot of sitting around and watching your neighbor with power because neighbors just didn't have power. I do think there's a lot more individual outages from Beryl then there was during Ike.

Our commercial property consists of an office and 12 residences all on the same property. The office and 4 residences have power. 8 residences do not. Centerpoint came and did an assessment yesterday and determined they need a new transformer. Right now they are "en route" but not readily available. No estimate was given on when that might happen.
