Tomball 2920 gas stations have power. busy lines, but they are running.
gas stations in 2nd ward also seemed to be up and running.

filling up gas cans just in case is silly. filling up your car because it might be hard to later is just being prepared.

Just a heads up if something like this happens in your 'hood….in one of our many outages, Centerpoint "forgot" to turn a circuit on (or some BS like that). So while technically, they had restored service, some switch somewhere wasn't flipped and a few houses stayed cold for an extra few hours until I alerted some people at the Township (Centerpoint had told them that all power was restored). They can and do make mistakes, and if you think you should have power and don't, it's worth following up on, if you can.

I need to...but the only time I think about it is when this happens and by the time inventory comes back and prices return to normal I forget. My own fault I suppose.

Good for you I guess. Glad you're hanging in there and that you're tougher than me. But plenty of us need help, gas, whatever. No need to **** on people when you truly have no idea what their circumstances are.

Again....I am not knocking people legitimately in need.....I am criticizing the lemmings who are hoarding.....I don't know who they are....but I know they're there.

No power still at Lake Livingston. Most of San Jacinto and Polk Counties are without power and there is a gas shortage. May need to rethink a Generac set up with propane.

I don't normally drink a lot of coffee/caffeine each day but I've tripped my daily consumption these past few days. I'm comfortable sleeping but constantly worried about generator or something else happening has me on edge and not sleeping worth a crap. I'm ready for this to be over like all of you…
I'm the same. I'm sure my generator will run just fine, but I'm up throughout the night worrying about the oil level and if I should shut it off and check it. I did shut it off yesterday morning to check it and again last night (let it rest for about an hour before turning it on for the night). If we don't get power by by Friday, I'll do an oil change Friday morning on it and that should hopefully get us through.

Memorial City Mall almost always gets power back quick since it is on the same line as the hospital across the street. Good playground area for kids, ice skating, carousel, movie theater, etc. It's a good place to go if you got kids and no power.

As for gas don't go to HEB on Bunker Hill. That place is a nightmare on normal days. Right now the line for gas is down the street and then around the car wash and then to the pumps. They could go 0.25 mile more and get gas easy.

The only silly thing is not understanding how things work, yet insist on telling everyone about it.

To run a 12k portable on a decent load, it takes close to 15 gallons of gas a day. Older generators more. There is no just in case.

I have a friend who lives in New Waverly, close to the San Jacinto County line. Her husband was told yesterday they will likely be without power for two weeks.

She said he talked to a lineman who said they had mobilized in Corpus because that's where they expected the most damage. Since they are already there, they are starting in that area and working their way towards Walker, San Jacinto, and Polk Counties.

For what it's worth…

Anybody in Kingwood know where there's reliable gasoline?

My dad said HEB has it, but long lines...the junky CenterPoint map showed the front of kingwood may be doing better on power.

He's got about a days worth of gasoline before he's got to venture farther out to find more.
Yea....the panicky toilet paper crowd is back at it again...only it's gas this time. Dumbasses.
Huh? People need gas to power generators. I don't see how this is remotely the same as having enough TP to keep the knot clean for a year. Dual and Tri fuel generators are awesome, but majority run on gasoline only, and it'll run through several gallons a day. Are people supposed to keep 100 gallons on hand just in case?
I'm not talking about people that legitimately need gas for generators....I'm talking about the lemmings who drive by and decide they need gas because everyone else is getting gas.
I highly doubt people who have 3/4 of a tank are waiting in line just because.

and the people filling up gas cans for this scenario are fine.......not everyone filling up gas cans is running a generator....some are simply panicking and hoarding.....for what? They probably don't even know....they probably still have toilet paper from 2020.

Yesterday, when I went to Freebirds for food at Bunker Hill, the line was backed up on the I10 exit ramp. I quickly noped out of that and exited Gessner, was able to get to Witte, and turn right into the parking lot and make my way back.

sounds like you need to start a hurricane preparedness community outreach program so people know how to act in these dire times.

i've got a dewalt 8000 watt

first time to have to use it for an extended period of time (although i did break it in after i first got it)

change oil after first 30 hours

change oil after every 100 hours thereafter

i put new oil in it in the lull periods every year between the trouble times (hurricane season, potential freezes).

Ever since the Covid TP apocalypse, I make sure we have just a couple of extra cases on hand at all times. Especially with two ladies in the house.

Gotta say, not having to worry about TP right now at helps reduce one stressor.

Filling up 3 5 gallon gas cans is something we do every June.

I'm also someone who fills my ride up when I get to half a tank. I'm not doing that this week even though I easily could.

Even though some/many people are being ****sticks, try to have some thoughts for others.

it probably is worth having a collected wisdom post about what you need to have installed and ready in your personal situation in order to make being without grid power in the summer tolerable for 5-7 days

it seems like the absolute key is you need A/C in at least one room so you can sleep and recharge

everything needs to flow to that point

I have a Generac, but the oil change requirement on it isn't much different than the portable ones, which would be 25-50 hours for break in, and then every 100 hours or annually. The whole homes have a filter that you'll need to replace as well, but the portable ones do not and just takes a quart or 2 of oil that you can get at the auto parts store or Walmart. My dad's Duromax has a drain plug on the bottom, so he just slides a foil pan under it to catch it and then refills and is good to go. Done in about 5 minutes.
