I have one of those as well and fired it up a couple of months ago to change the oil in it when I changed the oil in the Generac. I poured the gas out and drained the carb when I put it away the previous time, which was probably a good 2 years or more. Took a half dozen pulls but it fired up and ran like a champ. I drained the fuel and carb again and put it away thinking I wouldn't need to use it for a while, but an elderly single lady up the street is without power, so I took it to her house, poured some gas in it and it fired right up. She won't come to the house to get in some AC, but she's able to run her fridge, a fan, and some lights.Crazy Ag 97 said:
I bought a Honda EU2000i in 2007 when I used to host a tailgate. Used it a ton for tailgating and storms until about 2015. After that, I've kept up with annual maintenance and always let it run for a bit in early summer before hurricane season, but basically it's been in storage in the garage without any real use since 2015, until 6 weeks ago. Pulled it out when we lost power during the Derecho and it ran like a champ for 36 straight hours (minus the the time turned off to add gas every 8-9 hours). When my power came back on, I changed the oil and loaned it to a friend who was still out of power and they ran it for almost 48 straight hours without any issues. Honestly, thing is running better than it has in years. All this to say, if I ever need to replace it, I will gladly spend the money for the Honda.

Pretty much. On NG, it will have less power, but you'll still be around 10,000 or so. You can run plenty of things and a couple of window units and live better than many. The above is a big reason why I just go with the interlock kit and portable generators. The unknowns really tip the scale to make the $20k in investment worth it to me.
For sure this. I'm in to my backup power about $1700 and should be able to power our garage apartment plus select circuits in our house or fewer circuits in the house and one home HVAC system. Really hard to justify an extra $10-$15 grand for the auto start generac.
For your backup power, how long does a tank of gas last? And how much gas do you keep on hand? That is the one benefit I see to a Generac with NG - I don't have to wake up in the middle of the night to refuel.
If you go dual fuel, you can get some sizable propane tanks to keep on hand (and probably a lot easier to find to get refilled than gas) and the propane doesn't go bad.

My BF went out to run errands, which included buying the supplies to hook up my generator. I think he feels terrible he didn't get it done.
The heat really gets to him, so I didn't want to nag him to do it yesterday. My house is a comfortable 77, so as long as all my fridge food doesn't spoil, I'm good.
What an assh__e! The lady I'm loaning my Honda to has a neighbor with a Generac who is out of town. His dad was at the house yesterday and we asked if we could do that so she'd have a few things and he told us no. That happened a few months ago and our neighbor said no. Even though we had a week old baby.
Check their current load vs their generator rating. Your freezer is probably only 1-2 amps. If it's a whole house generator, it should easily be able to do it.MAS444 said:
