It takes a special kind of complete stupidity to head into a hurricane like that.P.H. Dexippus said:Cromagnum said:Captain Winky said:

Traveling into a Cat 4 hurricane just before landfall in a 3rd world country sounds like a good way for a foreigner to get parted out like a stolen Honda a la Turistas. Everyone will just assume the storm got you.

Why are people already wringing hands and cancelling plans? A bit early IMO.
Depends on what the plans are.
Cancelling a flight out of Houston for work...Probably a bit premature.
Cancelling a family trip down to Port A...Probably justified.
i think im more pissed that is fuggs up my redfish guide i have lined up
That is nightmare fuel.P.H. Dexippus said:Cromagnum said:Captain Winky said:

Quit watching the weather channel.
That's your first mistake and probably the cause for a lot of your anxiety.
Nowadays there are so many more reliable and knowledgeable sources out there for weather forecasts.

Except for cone and his bipolar posting.
His videos are probably the best out there, in my opinion.CAR96 said:
No…been watching Levi posts and can understand since 2017.
Doesn't surprise me. It takes a monumental amount of effort, and time, to shut-in and make-ready these facilities, not to mention the personnel evacuations, since there are a finite number of choppers, and 1000s of folks to get off, at a 3-4 hour round-trip each way, max 16 POB. Starting with non-essential personnel first. Last month I went out to a construction vessel next to Shell's new Whale facility and it was about 1.5 hours 1-way, and is due south of Houston in Alaminos Canyon 772, so it would be in the direct path if it continued to turn North. Shell Perdido is a bit west of there too.CAR96 said:
Just heard that Shell is shutting down their oil and gas rigs out in the Gulf of Mexico? Anybody heard anything about that?
Yeah, you wait too long to evac and / or evade (drillship) and stuff like this happens.Ag_07 said:
Not necessarily
As big as these storms are hazardous conditions to workers on rigs can still be present even thought the storm is not particularly close.
And like someone said. These companies can take 0 risks so they'll eye on the side of caution.
