Having a pool is probably the most clutch decision I've ever made. It's worth every damn penny in entertainment value for the kids alone, now add in the respite from the heat and it is truly worthwhile.

My thoughts on my pool can be summed up by the following video. NSFW - Language

That's the funniest video I have seen in a LONG time.

My kids ask to swim before breakfast and would stay in until after dinner though so its been incredibly worth it.

That guy is a whiny ***** boy.

As noted already, if you guys don't have your garages cleaned out for your cars, now might be a good time to evaluate that. Most of southeast Texas is in an upgraded risk for hail and wind today.

That one is headed off east to LA. Apparently some crap is supposed to come south off all the storms in north Texas this afternoon (models are showing around 3-4) and depending how that goes, a 2nd round might head east from central Texas tonight.

Wonderful. Girlfriend had to use my car today and is supposed to pick me up at 4 from my office downtown. Wish she (and everyone else) didn't have to drive in this mess.

I don't even have to think about the garage situation.

The Mustang stays in the garage and the other two cars are SOL.

His inability to do something as simple as maintain his pool is the joke. Its not that hard. He presents his ineptitude ina funny manner.

The first rule of pool maintenance: don't let the pool turn green in the first place. If you're going out of town for a week in the summer shock it on your way out the door and make sure your pump is set to run an hour for every 10 degrees of water temp.

Second rule: buy from leslies sparingly. 5lb bags of baking soda from heb cost like 1/5 what you pay for Alkalinity Up. Also using clorox to increase chlorine doesn't add cyanuric acid

I despise maintaining the pool. It's not even the issue of keeping the chemicals in check. It's all the other crap. Pumps going out, vacuum not getting enough suction, water features get clogged up, leaks under the concrete from shifting soil in the drought, o-rings on valves going bad and causing an issue keeping the spa full, spring on the handle we turn to back flush goes bad and rips the o-ring so now there's a leak....it's not the chemicals. It's all the really expensive crap that isn't an easy fix. Which is even more frustrating when you barely use the pool to start with.

Awesome.

So all these limbs that are dangling precariously in my neighbors trees because they thought if they're not on the ground they don't need to be cleaned up are gonna get blown everywhere and snap the power lines they just got done repairing.

Probably. But damn, if Centerpoint wasn't so greedy and just trimmed the trees like they were supposed to, there'd be no risk of this.

They DO trim the trees. There is over 29,000 miles of distribution lines they maintain. Do you think it is possible to trim them every year?

Every May/early June we wish we had a pool, then every July/August/September we go to a neighborhood pool or a friends house and remember how miserably warm they can get in this insanely hot and humid borderline unlivable swamp we all call home. Between the heat, rain, and crazy storms, it just doesn't seem worth it, given current costs to build.

Our house came with a pool, so we're stuck with it. I'd love nothing more than to bust it all up and fill it with dirt.

This last storm showed they have every reason to wait.

Storm took out a ton of branches and debris AND then CenterPoint gets to bill everyone for the clean up.

That's far better than being proactive.
