You're wasting your time rinsing out all those plastic bottles and aluminum cans.
Filling the green bin allows me to normally fit all the normal trash from a full house into the black bin. And here we are without service for a month and a half directly after Christmas when the most trash exists.
I've always just used the green can as overflow for the regular trash can.

It takes so little effort to keep a trash can under laundry room sink for everyone to throw recycling products in before dumping in the green barrel. That and breaking down cardboard (looking at my wife and Amazon) it alleviates quite a bit of space from the black bin.

No one needs anymore than that. I mean anything over 4inches where are you suppose to put it anyways.
We have a waterline running under our concrete patio then up through a column then an overhead awning thing covering behind our garage and then finally in to my garage. I dont know why I failed to think thoroughly about this, but I did not have my wife drip the hose bib on that column and only put a bib cover on it.
When I replumbed my apartment last year I planned on running PEX all the way to the ground but I really didn't want to go through the entire overhead and I couldn't easily put the 90 in from the column.
Guess what is frozen solid? The line from the ground to where I put the cutoff valve at the transition from pvc to pex. I REALLY hope there isn't a crack somewhere because I really do not need another project or a plumbing bill to open up that column and cut and cap the line until I get home.

Talking with my Texas transplant coworkers today, they were all way more concerned about the windchill factor than they were the actual temperature, all the while bemoaning the preparation (or lack thereof) of the Houston area authorities. Tire chains were mentioned as well at one point, which I appreciated as a masterful way to troll others or more evidence of idiocy (which provides comedy relief).
The irony of kvetching about the windchill but belittling Houston for not "salting the roads" ahead of time was not lost on me. These are the same people that work "climate change" into serious conversations when talking about Texas summers.
Of course the local weather dorks are huge fear porn pushers, and it doesn't help things.

As an FYI, just because you have insulation, doesn't prevent the pipe from freezing. It just extends the time it takes to freeze.
So if you can introduce heat into the system faster than it is going out, you'll keep it from freezing. That's the idea of dripping or heat tracing the lines.
If you do have to do a plumbing job, you could install heat tape or something similar to keep the pipes warmish for next time.

Yea I wasn't relying on the insulation, I honestly forgot it was there until I looked at pictures, i just completely dumbed out on doing what was necessary. I'm overseas right now and had my wife do everything and I dripped other external lines I had no real way of protecting, but neglected to have her do so on this.
Good news though, I asked her to go out and check again just because and it had running water last night so crisis averted I guess? When facetiming it sure as hell seemed frozen in the clear pex in the garage.

I usually run hot water for a few min to all susceptible pipes on exterior walls before going to sleep and again when waking
