Houston has only had two republican mayors and the last one was 41 years ago. I wouldn't hold my breath.
1.) And a good way to ensure that continues is to make sure a Republican isn't even on the final ballot.
2.) Winds of change are blowing. The mayor of Dallas just switched party affiliation from Democrat to Republican. That any Democrat would run on a "tough on crime" platform would have been inconceivable three years ago.

It wouldn't matter what label Whitmire is. He's still more like Ted Kennedy than an actual conservative.
Only one city with a MSA over 500k has a Republican (I don't count Dallas as he is a Liberal) mayor. That is Charleston, SC.

I'm so relieved that SJL is NOT going to be the mayor of Houston! We're getting out of Houston next summer, but even 7-8 months or her leading the city would have been 7-8 months too many!

Eh, I don't base my thoughts and positions on here based off of who is posting what, and their perceived standing/clout on this board.

She hasn't had to run a campaign since the 1994 primary, so I'm sure it is a foreign concept to her.
