It's all relative. If you live anywhere south of houston you'd say the opposite, like the poster you're relying to. I live in houston, I'd like to try killens but haven't and probably won't because I can go to several options that are on par or better in a quarter the time. Or I can just take an Uber for less than $10 if I know we'll be drinking a couple bottles of wine.
Does not really compute, but whatever floats your boat.
I guess I don't get the "XXX place is too far to drive" when you are talking about an every now and again or special occasion meal. We aren't talking about a 4 hour trek to the hellhole DFW or something, we are talking about 45 mins, maybe an hour max. Just seems like a petty cop-out to me on not going somewhere not in the regular rotation, but that's me.
So….now you're saying that you don't get the some place is too far to drive argument for a rare special occasion meal but your initial argument for killens was "without the downtown traffic"?
Difference is....I won't say a place is on par or better than another place if I've never actually been to that other place to compare them. So, basically you are making a judgement call based on absolutely no real information, or pure hearsay. Hey, it works for you - party on with it.
Ultimately, all of these places serve similar meals and everybody is pretty much ordering the same things no matter where you go. You'll get yourself the ribeye, the Mac and cheese with some seafood in it, the potatoes with loads of butter or oil in them and the buttered down green because your wife needs a vegetable. You'll get the crab cakes or oysters to start and split some sort of dessert and have a wine or cocktail.
Pappas is really not that different than Capital Grill which isn't that different from your precious Killens in Pearland.
