Count me in the camp that didn't think Georgia James was all that. It was really good but nothing special compared to the other plethora of steak places we have in this town. Great steak is because of the meat and all a place can do is not screw it up.

As for $100K at B&B in one evening that's a damn event and not a dinner. $1,000 a person is REALLY damn lavish and you still need 100 people to pop $100K.

Sounds like someone got taken advantage of by their guests. Sucks that happened.

Most corporate events don't even come close to $100K much less a random night out at a steakhouse.

No, she's not from Houston. She grew up going to the SA rodeo when it was at the Freeman but even that is an 1.5 hour drive from her house. She's from south Texas. Up until 2-3 years ago, Houston went many years without a rodeo. If it's not PRCA, it's not a rodeo. I know they lost their affiliation for quite sometime (10 years maybe?). Someone correct me if I'm wrong.

I've read some stupid stuff before but that bolded part might be tops of the list. Bravo.

Wife and I would prefer to go to a steakhouse that neither of us have been to just to try something new. I've been to Taste of Texas, Pappa's Bros, Brenner's, Steak 48, and a few others. I haven't been to Mastro's, B&B, Killen's, or Turner's (if that's considered a steakhouse). I'm leaning towards B&B but I'd like other opinions.

Disclaimer: me wife's family has been in the cattle ranching business a long time so she's picky on her steak. She knows all about the marbling, muscle content, and the cuts. All of that to say the steak needs to be high quality and the chef needs to know what he's doing.

Another support for B&B. Benny does a great job with his restaurant. Attention to detail. Steaks are very well prepared and presentation is thoughtful. Good wine list.

I jokingly suggested that one time to Brandon or someone in charge. He laughed and then got really serious and said "No."

I didn't mean to say she was an expert. I just meant that she knows more than the average person walking into a steakhouse. I'm sure there are many on this board that knows more than her which is why I came here in the first place.

I think Pappa's is great but she wanted to try something new for us like STQ, B&B, or Georgia James.
Sorry you are being bashed for your wife's steak knowledge and her ranch upbringing. Most of the urban hipster tools ripping you here wouldn't know a good steak if the steer from which it came kicked them in the head.

I also appreciate your feeling that a "rodeo isn't a rodeo" if it isn't PRCA-sanctioned. The Houston rodeo was always PRCA-sanctioned until a conflict with new PRCA management in the early 2010's…and it became sanctioned again in 2019 when the differences were worked out. PRCA cowboys always have participated at Houston (sanctioned or not), because of the huge purse offered there.

Pappas Bros. is a great, consistent, classic steakhouse experience with a super wine list. But if you've been there before and want something different, try B&B Butchers. Cool atmosphere, and really, really good steaks. Georgia James is good, but their steak quality and preparation is hit or miss and it is definitely overpriced.

Hope this helps and I hope y'all have a great time!

I've been curious about Doris!

Didn't even list what I think is the best one in Houston. Georgia James.

Taste of Texas and Brenners is a cut below the others you've mentioned. Bottom line is as long as you are going to a place that serves USDA Prime Steak, then you probably aren't going to go wrong so just look at the menus and decide which is the most interesting to you and there you go,
I agree that I want a USDA PRIME STEAK when I go to a steakhouse.

I do not see a USDA PRIME STEAK on the menu at Georgia James. I do see that they mention certain retailers like 44 farms and snake river. But that is not what I'm looking for.

We went to B&B and I was not impressed with the steak. Prefer Vic and Anthony's to Pappas but both were good. I've never been to Georgia James. Hard pass on not being able to park there.

I think that's fine if you're taking the family, but for a nicer couple's night out I prefer Kelley's.

uhh carpetbaggers are basically a requirement.

I've always wanted to play a game as a double date where each person draws a course and you basically pick the restaurant/item for the course

appetizer
main
dessert
cocktail (could be first or last last)

carprtbaggers would be my appetizer. parmesan cheesecake at Nancy's would be my dessert.

The Chateaubriand at B&B Butchers is off the charts impressive.

The wife & I enjoyed the domestic wagyu filet mignon (we're lol poors) at Killen's.

Can't go wrong at either place.

Sorry to keep this thread going but I noticed that the only steakhouse not mentioned from my first post is Mastro's. So that leaves me wondering why? Overrated? Bad service? I've heard good things but my sources are not big steak people.

I think Mastro's and Brenner's are both owned by Tillman Fertitta. Fertitta/Landry's restaurants rarely receive much love on local social media. Well, except for instagram girls.

Some people hate them just because it's Landry's. Personally, I wasn't a fan of mastros. Thought it was way overpriced, way too much of an Instagram model photo shoot vibe to me (the table next to us took photos the entire time, even busted out the halo light things for their selfies), and ok food. It's been awhile, but I've always like brenners on the bayou. It's not pappas, but it's still a good steak. Or it was, haven't been in several years but have a couple hundred dollars in Landry's gift cards so may go soon.

My driver LOVES valet. He thinks it's the best. He can stay seated while the valet folks open the doors. He's always super pumped when I tell him we're going somewhere that has valet.

With wine it would be easy. Probably ordered a few fancy bottles, got drunk and the waitress with big tits kept opening and pouring.

Wife is getting a $600 meal. The least she can do is make the walk in probably heels in the crappy parking lot and wait the extra 4 minutes it takes while you drive around looking for spaces without the orange cones blocking them off.

Killen's in Pearland is legit

But it's out in the middle of nowhere.

Del Friscos is our go to, Ruth's Chris is pretty solid too.

I guess?

I dont particularly consider tha the middle of nowhere, but to each his own. Doesnt have the downtown Houston vibe, but also doesnt have the traffic.

Neither of which has any bearing on how good the food is.

Kemah Steak Co is another option, but it int on par with Pappas or Killens.
If you're doing a dinner with reservations around 7, especially on a Saturday, downtown will be pretty dead. Getting into downtown on a Friday night may be tough depending on where you're coming from, but getting to Pearland could also be a hassle.

It's all relative. If you live anywhere south of houston you'd say the opposite, like the poster you're relying to. I live in houston, I'd like to try killens but haven't and probably won't because I can go to several options that are on par or better in a quarter the time. Or I can just take an Uber for less than $10 if I know we'll be drinking a couple bottles of wine.
