Getting the dude fired is the only way Democrats are going to win back those seats. Now people with decent jobs that would make good board members are going to think twice about running.

He wasn't eloquent with his delivery, but we all knew what the dude meant. Come on.

I doubt Maya or any local news outlet had to make a call to make his employer aware. It was all over all the local news outlets and probably starting to go national. All it really took was a customer going straight to upper management. Don't shoot the messenger

Well what do we have here? There are the people that Splunk replied to on Twitter.

Seems like someone that covers the news wants to also make the news be what she wants to report.

Let's be honest, when the guy ran for school board on an anti-CRT platform he had lost his job with San Francisco based Splunk. It was just delayed until today.

The us vs them cult doesn't allow for a view opposing CRT.

I thought the same when I saw that reply by @Splunk but I believe it was this "demanding Liz" character that added Miya and company to the conversation.

She is no doubt posting that from a patio at a restaurant along Upper Kirby while having bottomless mimosas with her white girlfriends who are posting on FB about how much they support their BIPOC friends (who they are friends with on FB, but they have never stepped inside each other's homes).
her and her doctor husband do have a nice million+ home in the heights

And they probably shout diversity and equality yet send their own kids to a private school or use the magnet program to go where they want.

I know someone in the heights and they made their Instagram profile an all black picture and saying something heart warming like I'll never understand the struggle you go through I'll do my best. Meanwhile their last post was ranting about hisd because they couldn't get their daughter into the magnet school they wanted because their zoned school apparently wasn't good enough for her. They also had a sign in their front yard to stop whatever affordable housing they are trying to build in the west part of the heights.

They really don't see the hypocrisy in all this. It's easy to virtue signal behind a keyboard. Meanwhile this guy they got fired is actually doing something and putting his time and effort into helping kids.

Neither of them went to ****ty HISD schools, you can bet on that. Neither do/did their two girls mentioned in her Twitter bio.

Very sadly, the guy knew he worked for a San Fran based company which is of course one of the most liberal parts of the US. He planned this speech more or less by looking up the stats. He should have thought this through better and worded it more in a way that it couldn't as easily be taken out of context or made headlines. Really sucks for this guy and I hope he is able to find a new job quickly.

I'm on an HOA board which of course is on a substantially less magnitude than this but even there I make sure anything I want to say could not somehow be used against me by cancel culture libs to affect my day job.

That's what the board member was trying to say.

Earlier in this thread in a now deleted comment, valtrex said that the board member accidently said what we all think which seemed to be implying we all think that having more black teachers lead to worse performing schools. So here is is one again speaking for all of our minds and I just wanted to give him a chance to clarify if he's saying we all know that there is no link between racial makeup of staff and school performance or if is at another attempt at veiled racism.

My company gives a "diversity score" for a team composition, and oddly enough it rates 100% if the team is a combination of women / minorities. You would think having a representative population of white males in the mix would be required for the team to be considered diverse, but no. The answer is always to hire more minorities and women, regardless of the percentage of population they make up.

This guy is one of three candidates that swept out the old guard board members. They actively campaigned and knocked on doors in the area where as the old guard sat back and counted on the teachers and school workers to turn out and vote the party line that they are given. The old guard establishment is running scared and will do what they have to do to prevent the other member up for re-election losing their spots. The target is on their backs and those that want to be offended will be offended and shout it from all the social media platforms to create a crisis.

Why do you hate people being held accountable for what they say and do? Is it because you're afraid you may be held accountable one day?

Holding an elected official accountable is voting them out, recalling them, and/or impeaching them. Hell, protest at every meeting if you want.

But the cancel culture of going after someone's job that is completely unrelated to his elected position is BS, especially when anyone with two brain cells to rub together could understand the point he was trying to make, regardless of how poor of a job he did making that point.

Thats why like I said in a previous post that it seems most politicians who aren't career politicians seem to be self-employed or have other means of guaranteed income. If you are relying on an employer for income, you run the risk of saying something that will piss off or even worse, affect your employer and their bottom line. You may consider it cancel culture, but I'm guessing Splunk did not want to be associated with his comments whether its the point he was trying to make or the point he accidently implied. Seeing how he isn't in a union, Splunk has every right to fire their employee for any comment they make at anytime, and thats true for the vast majority of us who work for someone else.

It was tongue in cheek, but the jump to conclusions response to my post could be used in response to your post insinuating the poster you quoted was worried about being held accountable for his words.

Seriously???

The fact that this is your response tells me you're a part of the problem. What did he need to be held accountable for? If you would have said "I can understand his argument but he did a poor job of articulating it" we would absolutely agree. Like adults can do. However, a man losing his job to cancel culture (after the narrative was purposefully completely twisted) is gross. If you can't understand then we really don't have anything to discuss.

Also...schmendeler's posting history speaks for itself so you can spare me in regards to that specific poster.

I believe I have said it before that I understand the argument he was trying to make. I also understand that is not what he wound up saying. Accident or not, he was on record as a public official. He is also in a customer-centric job seeing how he works in sales. I don't know how any company would expect to keep him on-board after that botched delivery and the negative publicity that followed. Perhaps his employer could have kept him on board tried to let it blow over. Perhaps he wasn't valued enough to try. Or it just is a case of his values not lining up with his bosses' values. Whether we like it or not, we are a rep of our employer pretty much 24/7.

The flip side is that people who dislike his views disingenuously interpreted his comments in a political setting and set out to harm him in a personal setting.

That's "cancel culture" in a nutshell.

You left out the part where people with a narrative distorted what he said to fit a preconceived agenda then attacked him with it. The fact that he got fired in the private sector is cancel culture in a nutshell. People who are either too biased, or not smart enough to understand nuance or logic attacked him for what they perceived or rather, wanted to perceive. The fact that you continuously defend that behavior (and conveniently omit large parts of the story when defending that behavior), and even went so far earlier as to make a veiled threat towards me tells me you are a proponent of our current cultural rot. It's gross.
