If the diagnosed cases (whether that be by official testing or a doctor's opinion) really are higher than what they are telling us, I have no issue with the decisions that have been made to close certain businesses and tell people to stay home.
My neighbor is a nurse at one of the area hospitals that is designated for Coronavirus. Any patients in that hospital system that test positive are being moved to that hospital. He said they basically know nothing and said social distancing and disinfecting is very important. On a positive note, he said that hospitals across the country are at low occupancy levels at the moment.

Awesome. Exact scenario we had with my 10YO in CISD. Came home the 6th, said she felt weird. Cratered 30 minutes later and was down for a week with an "undetermined virus". Negative for flu, strep and whatever else they tested for. Her school is an Oak Ridge feeder.
This has been bugging me because the timeline doesn't make sense.
This case was announced yesterday, the 23rd. Note above says the kid started experiencing symptoms over spring break. Spring break for CISD was the week of March 8. So, two weeks later we are finally hearing about this case.
Did it take this long for the kid to be tested and/or the results to be reported? Or are known cases not being made public in a timely manner?
There are at least two other cases I'm aware of where there seems to be a significant delay between onset of symptoms and, in one case, hospitalization and notification of people who might have been exposed.
How are you supposed to track down other people who were potentially exposed if two weeks or more passes before results are reported?
Just one more reason why stay at home really is the only/best option.

Essentially you can be fine for about 7 days, then it hits. But during those 7 days or so, you're shedding virii to everyone. Maybe not an infectious dose, but you're a walking Typhoid Mary.

Seems like I recall him owning something like 600 restaurants. Don't forget the Kemah Boardwalk and the Pleasure Pier in Galveston.

Yeah, we're seeing single digit occupancy rates. Doubly whammy of oil downturn and travel hiatus.

Things may reopen really quick, but with the amount of folks unemployed or about to be, I don't think restaurants will be as busy for awhile. Restaurants won't have to ramp up to what they were the day this is lifted.

I'm hoping that this can help some people. I'm sure there's been a lot of uncertainty in the hospitality industry, low hours, ****ty tips, etc. Hopefully, now, the people kept on can at least get full shifts. The people furloughed know they are temporarily out of a job so it frees them up to get a temporary job with uber eats, HEB, etc.
I can only imagine how much harder this is on a city like Las Vegas.

PSA - I'm not opining on whether I agree or disagree with unemployment/government programs. I operate under the thought that if programs exits, you should exploit it to the extent available.

I meant once all this blows over it's not gonna be a slow ramp up back to normal. Seems to me as soon as we're given the OK to resume normal activities people will be out and about shopping and in restaurants that day.
It doesn't seem like restaurants will have time to hire and train new employees.
