That what the pics on the chron slide show looked like.

I am not sure if the 60,000,000 number for 250 beds is for staff, supplies and everything, but the costs I have seen is about 15,000 a bed for temp hospital setup.

Just seems ridiculously too much.

But, government is best at wasting money.

Yeah hopefully that number is the estimate for costs including consumables and personnel but I'm not holding my breath

This morning, listening to the radio on my commute, they said the price tag of this makeshift hospital was going to be $60MM.

That's too much to be believed.

Anyone else seen or heard of that?
https://www.houstonchronicle.com/news/houston-texas/houston/article/Harris-County-commits-60M-to-NRG-Park-field-15185688.php#photo-19270639

It appears that instead of using one of he massive structures that is already on the property they may be building a giant tent.

Good grief. $60MM for a 250 bed tent hospital??? They could buy and fit out a couple of now-empty hotels for a fraction of that cost.

When has the estimated costs actually been lower than the actual when it comes to government?

We did a zoom chat with my wife's family last weekend. My brother and sister in law, both intelligent, educated, high earners, said one thing they learned through this is they aren't voting for Hidalgo again. My wife and I just looked at each other with a wtf look. We couldn't believe they were buying whatever it was she was selling to vote for her the first time. Though it was probably Beto carryover. They are in the heights, and yes had a yard sign.

I didnt know anyone actually chose to vote for Hidalgo. I always assumed ALL her votes were from straight-ticket votes. I'm liberal to Aggie standards and even I voted for Emmett because I had no clue who the hell Lina Hidalgo was and I love me some Astrodome.

Found some at Walmart in the painting supplies area in hardware. I assume any paint and painting supplies store would have them.

Not much detail in the article, and I didn't watch the presser, but Abbott plans to issue an executive order next week to address businesses reopening.

I think that even a "we plan to hold firm with the April 30 date and expect businesses to re-open first week of May" would be good news

Link suggests it's going to be guidelines on how to reopen. I'm thinking it will be rules on how many people can be in a store/restaurant at the same time and requirements on PPE.

What will be interesting is if big companies follow along with Abbott's guidelines. A lot of retailers made the decisions to close stores across the country before cities and counties issued official "stay at home" orders. They may have their own timeline for reopening.

I think a lot of those closures had to do with remaining open costing them more money than just shutting it down. Our daughter works at Hollister and they were one of the ones that closed before anyone else. Her last shift she said they had one person come in the store in 5 hours that she was there.

I'm sure that was the driving factor. But now that we've been in this for a few weeks, no big company wants to open back up only to have an outbreak in their store.

With kids out of school, there has to be a balancing act between allowing businesses to open but not becoming hang-outs for hoards of teens and tweens with nothing better to do.

That's true. I'd heard some south Texas counties were starting to require minors out of the house without an adult to either be doing something like going to work or dealing with an emergency. I wonder if they'd include something like that and, if they did, how enforceable even that would be.

My fear is that the announcement is forming a task force, and then that task for will give a recommendation the last week of April, and that recommendation will be the big counties stay closed

I gave up reddit a few weeks ago. Still having withdrawals since that was my go to site to browse when I had nothing better to do. The blatant bias and Chinese censurship finally pushed me away. I spent nearly 8 years on that site.

Our epidemic was so early on we probably will sit right around R0 of 1, meaning every case makes only 1 more case. Then you never get a peak. Model looks for a peak, model best fits our death curve to previous places that have all had peaks, model tells you when it "will" peak.

Best play here is to wait for ~7 days of flat to declining deaths and know we'll be past it. The IHME model is really for one thing - to estimate hospital capacity. Once we locked down we were never going to have hospital capacity issues. No need to watch the IHME for Texas.
