Hopefully the recent jump in % positive rate doesn't appear in hospitalizations over the next week or so.

Deaths have not increased at the same rate as hospitalizations and total number of cases.

It looks like as long as you are not sending old sick people into nursing homes, that deaths will continue to be very very low. Certainly this thing does kill some people, but the risks seem much lower than initial thoughts.

And this is why you're fixin to see an increase in the "but we don't know what the long term effects will be" narrative in order to justify keeping everything locked down.

Agreed. We're going to start seeing a lot of "pictures of lungs" post COVID. It's no joke y'all!

I also imagine that once we have a vaccine, there will be a shift to how dangerous and untested the vaccine is. Lots of hyping of side effects and "my friend's co-workers's kid has seizures/nosebleeds/spoke in tongues after taking it" social media stories.

Ironically, it will be the same people who are now telling us to shut down and hunker down and wait for a vaccine.

the media tone related to this pandemic will change 180 once Trump gets booted

there won't be meaningful mainstream fear mongering with the vaccines

When so many people place their balls in her hand, it makes it easy.

Using the 35000 active cases number when only 7500 of those are outside CoH.

So, is this mandatory, or what? Can't they even get their act together enough to issue something that has teeth? "Should not be made available" is very vague language.

They can't make schools do anything but it does ensure schools that decide to go online only get full funding because they are following instruction of public health officials.

Will be interesting to see what Tomball does. I think they're one of the last harris county districts offering in person from day 1.

Did Klein, Humble, and CyFair change their minds about an in person option? Conroe caved, and they are in Montgomery Co.

The Austin Public Health mandate prohibited schools from opening.

We JUST got an email today about in-person sectionals and marching practice (if you want to do it). Tells me the ISD has no clue this was happening, which is inexcusable.

Klein is doing the same as Tomball.
At this time parents are selecting their choice. Will be completed by July 24.

I thought UIL controlled sports.

Spring Branch is having a meeting tonight. Sounds like they could be changing to online only after just last week announcing in person or virtual option.

What about the teachers that protested in Austin over the weekend? Can I blame them?

This is entirely dependent on the school they're in it seems.
Good school = Wants back in classroom
**** school = Want the little ****s at home

I have not in a single post blamed teachers. This is not their fault. Our district has done everything they can to get an in-person option available for the fall, and I think the district was blindsided by this decision today (although, based on what Austin and Dallas did, it was only a matter of time).

I blame our local and state leadership and the Public Health offices.

Somebody poured a whole can of "no authority" on that letter. The operative phrase in that letter is "should not be made available".

I'm so angry. I don't even know why I'm surprised to see this because I'm not.

This hurts our youngest kids the most and especially low-income children. If this isn't racist, I don't know what is.

That's what is the saddest. The well to do children won't be affected much. The low income kids are actively hurt by the decision. The gap will be made wider.

I posted this yesterday in another thread:

As a country, we've spent the last two months protesting and having passionate discussions about social injustice and systemic discrimination, yet we want to indefinitely suspend the one widespread institution that actually gives the underprivileged any chance of overcoming those injustices and let them fall even further behind than they already are.
