In this scenario, I believe the Harris County Judge is technically the Local On-Scene Coordinator (LOSC) unless she appoints a representative, for example the Harris County Fire Marshal or someone from the Hazmat Team. She is basically being kept in the loop, although judging by her press conferences, she doesn't appear to have a clue.

Same with Seabrook. They're like "who are all these so-called experts telling us we're perfectly safe?"

I'm like cdub - go to post, then delete and just roll my eyes.

I have zero idea why people would freak out here in Seabrook. Of course I stay off our Neighborhood pages and social media in this area. People freak out around here when trash pick up happens past 5pm

I did some work at the DuPont La Porte Plant, and one of the lines coming into the plant was a 48" acetylene line carrying ~97% of the production at the Rohm and Haas plant a few miles away. One of the operators said that if the DuPont unit had an upset, the production would go straight to the flare...at a cost of about $200k per hour to DuPont.

I'm in Seabrook but work right next to the place. There is no way they can tell me after 23 yrs of working with these chemicals that what's burning is non toxic. There is a 0 percent chance.

I saw a crude sludge tank with 24 hour water submergance burn for a month at the big BP in Texas City around 12 yrs ago.

That probably depends on the levels of both lakes Conroe and Houston, and how much is being released from both.


In all seriousness, I know at least one legit company down there than have shut down their 24hr operations based on some kind of inside info. Said to fill up your cars with gas in case someone decides to evacuate the Houston area... said they want to call for one but don't want to create panic. LOL

I called them a conspiracy theorist... but what do I know?
