I'm in Chicago about to board a United flight for Houston and they are overbooked by seven seats. Currently offering $300 voucher to bump. Lol

People are saying everyone will refuse now and united will have to drag everyone off planes. Let us know how it turns out

What's ****ing hilarious is that absolutely everyone is going to learn what the maximum amount to be paid by federal statute is and everyone flying United is going to demand that amount.

Yes...another reason why this was so stupid on United's part. People are really going to resist now unless they get paid the max...and United is not going to want to physically "re-accomodate" anyone now for a while...and eveyone knows this....and round and round that's going to go costing them a ton of headaches, time and money. What a mess they have created by their own incompetence.

If I was United I would sue Ohare security.

I didn't see anyone dragged out, but I bet they went north of $800 real quick. I thought about asking for $3k just to see what they said.

Max applies only under certain conditions and if involuntarily removed.

Almost always I will give up my seat for 500. Still not an issue for them.

I hate united but I applaud their don't give a **** attitude. The guy deserved it for being a jackass and not voluntarily walking off the plane.

Less than 24 hours, United changed their tune real quick. So much for that standing behind what they initially did. This definitely isn't how you handle things like this. LOL

This whole debacle is just another reason why I only fly when I must.

I hate flying.

Thats the max they are forced to offer under the worst circumstances by government rules. So basically once it gets higher than that they know that no one is going make them pay more so they dont.

This...the end. The man being dragged out of his seat is because he didnt follow lawful orders. Life should not be this hard

Have everyone disembark, ask one more time for volunteers. If no vols, then do the random selection. Everyone else re-boards the plane.

Will this procedure work?

We do not live in a police state. Cops using excessive force is what gets them into trouble constantly. Just because it has always happened and is just now being caught by every Dick and Jane with a cellphone doesn't mean that cops were acting appropriately before. Airlines remove drunks all the time without dragging them bloodied through the isle. People will now use the excuse that they are peacefully protesting against the injustice of the airlines overbooking. Good luck getting that guy off without committing a civil rights violation, especially if they are a minority. This could have all been avoided with a little bit of decorum. Bottom line... get the guy off the plane, but don't leave him a bloodied mess in the process.

Pretty sure ol boy got a vote on how he would leave the plane. He chose poorly.

So the guy chose to have 2 teeth knocked out, a concussion, and surgery on his sinus passage. I hope if one of your family members ever has a disagreement at the airport then they get treated better than this.

Should he have been asked to get off the plane? No
Should United have bumped people for their crew? No

I would've been pissed.

However, when armed authorities, air marshals, etc show up to escort me off a plane I'm getting up and leaving without any drama. There are times to fight your fight and make your stand and throwing a tantrum like a toddler and refusing to leave was a bad choice.

He shouldn't have been treated like that but he also shouldn't have resisted and threw a fit like he did.

That hate for United has gone viral. But in Houston especially, every one I know think's it couldn't have happen to a better company. Those Continental roots are deep.

I Would do anything to get Continental back, but what did United do? The Airport rent a cop dragged him off the plane. It could have been handled better, but United didn't do anything that any other US airline wouldn't do. That is why Emirates is the only airline that has spoken against it.

Totally agree with this view. It's the amount of force that people object to. The guy should have definitely got off the plane like the other 39,999 people a year do when bumped. I'm sure the other 39,999 who are bumped are also pissed though if they haven't volunteered on their own to take a voucher.

You are wrong and will be proven as much when the doc receives a massive settlement from the airport and United. I would not expect that when buying a seat for a flight that by the end of the day I would be entering into surgery. The cop can reach over unbuckle the guy lead him out by the arm. You don't have to smash the guys face in. If you think the amount of force was appropriate, then you can't be helped. This coming from a guy whose family's greatest infraction with law enforcement is a speeding ticket.

That would have been great but the doc resisted being moved...they had to forcibly pick him up and in the process his head fell on the armrest on the seat across the aisle. Nobody punched his face in.

If the police used excessive force, his claim is against the police. (And I'm positive how that case will go based on the video of him refusing to move)

You guys are debating this like it's a matter of right and wrong. This is about shareholders, market cap, and video. Only Baylor would be dumb enough to lawyer up instead of offering a settlement and trying to make nice with the public.

They are going to offer something. No doubt about that. But it's not going to be millions of dollars like some people are guessing

And we've already seen the effect on shareholders. Negligible
