This is an email sent to outgoing First Assistant Belinda Hill from Kim Ogg:
"Judge,
Please be advised that I have received several phone calls on my personal cell phone and at my law firm from a sex trafficking victim, the mother of a child who was sexually assaulted, and two parents of murdered children-all of whom have cases pending with the Harris County District Attorney's Office. These crime victims have been contacted by individuals identifying themselves as assistant district attorneys. The callers deliberately misinformed the crime victims about the status and well-being of their cases, and then told them to call me personally to complain. The prosecutor identified by the sex trafficking victim is Justin Keiter.
A frantic rape victim's mother called me to say she was notified by VINE that the a defendant accused of raping her child had been released because of case dismissal by the prosecutor, Nick Socias, who had failed to contact her about the dismissal. Last night I spoke with a woman whose daughter is the victim of a capital murder. She received an anonymous phone call by a person identified as a prosecutor who not only misinformed her about the status of her case, but made false statements about me, including stating that I would never seek the death penalty in her case, currently scheduled for Feb. 2017. The prosecutor handling her case is Gretchen Flader.
The purpose of this communication is to inform Ms. Anderson and you that the use of official and confidential information available only to the prosecutors handling these cases is unethical and possibly illegal. I urge you to immediately halt the access to all official information by these prosecutors and any others engaged in these despicable actions.
Additionally, please take immediate action to ensure that all records (personal cell phone, personal and work email, etc.) from each person involved are immediately preserved so that a full investigation can be undertaken.
To say that these actions re-victimize people who have already suffered enough is an understatement. In the name of professionalism and common decency, I urge you both to take appropriate action immediately.
Regards,
Kim Ogg
Harris County District Attorney-Elect"

Serious question- are ADAs not covered by the same sort of civil servant employment laws which require an act of God to fire a normal municipal employee?
They are not civil servants, and are not protected as such

Look, I'm just a guy who gets bored and reads local blogs.
Murray Newman's blog has been routine reading for me since the Houston Press listed him as a must read as Chuck Rosenthal yielded to Judge Lycos.
That led me to discover Don Hooper at his blog. I'd heard of Hooper through local political circles before. You can judge for yourselves -- but there is lots of evidence out there that indicates that Hooper is as crazy as a sheethouse rat as far as I'm concerned.
I don't have an ax to grind on either side, but I will say that this is wildly entertaining.
I'm not saying Hooper is crazy, but he may find this page and call the Texags office demanding to know who you are and making insane threats of retribution through his powerful friends.Quote:

Exactly. And the fact that I had a defense attorney I talk to tell me that basically the bureau chiefs getting fired were to be expected. What was unexpected was pretty much ANYONE that pissed off Ogg or her friends before also got canned. Basically someone kept a grudge list of sorts. The Wonderer said:UndergroundAg said:

Well, some of those that got canned were those that were very vocal in supporting Anderson in her campaign. Can't blame Ogg for wanting to let those people go.Quote:

If anybody wants a good chuckle, run his name through the district court's website. He road raged a dude in West U, got arrested while hiding at his mom's house, then sued the crap out of all parties when he got out of jail.ChiliBeans said:I'm not saying Hooper is crazy, but he may find this page and call the Texags office demanding to know who you are and making insane threats of retribution through his powerful friends.Quote:

Yep. Looks like there is proof that some of Ogg's accusations are completely baseless.Mr. AGSPRT04 said:
Ogg was over the top with her accusations to Belinda Hill. False accusations by a public figure about a private figure insinuating unethical and/or illegal acts as it relates to the performance of their profession. I'd take the defamation case.
Quote:
The Houston Press contacted each prosecutor Ogg implicated at the press conference Tuesday Nick Socias, Gretchen Flader and Justin Keiter and it turns out that their stories are quite different from the narrative Ogg presented.
Quote:
Ogg said the crime victim's mother in Socias's case called and was distraught over the fact that the man who sexually abused her daughter was being released from jail. Ogg said the woman received a phone call from VINE, the victim notification system. As Ogg wrote to DA's office First Assistant Belinda Hill, Socias had dismissed the case and did not call the woman himself to tell her.
Quote:
Using information about the defendant Socias provided us, a simple search on the Harris County District Clerk's website shows the case has not been dismissed; Harris County Jail records do show the defendant was released, presumably on bond.
Quote:
After she got the VINE call, the crime victim emailed Socias to say she was just notified her abuser was being released, and she's not seeing any charges online. Here's his response, in full:Quote:
"Unfortunately the newly elected DA Kim Ogg has announced that I, along with I believe 37 other prosecutors, will no longer be working at the District Attorney's Office. Ms. Ogg will be assigning a new prosecutor to handle this case who she feels is more in line with her new goals in criminal justice.
If you have any questions Ms. Ogg can be reached at [redacted]. It was a pleasure to get to know you. I pray that Justo Castro gets what he deserves."

We reached out to Ogg later in the day to ask why she didn't simply reach out to the prosecutors to confront them with the allegations or ask about the cases. She sent her campaign spokesman Wayne Dolcefino to respond. Dolcefino maintained that Ogg has no obligation to talk with the trio before launching a criminal investigation, whether through a grand jury or otherwise, once she takes office. They'll talk during the investigation, he said.
No doubt Wayne is commenting anonymously on Murray's blog. Still amazes me that people who want to be taken seriously use him as a spokesman.Mr. AGSPRT04 said:Untimed Down said:Which one is Murray Newman? The Wonderer said:

Back in March, I was pulled over a few blocks from my home on River Oaks Blvd. Most of you know that I typically do not drive, as I employ a driver. That night, I had let my driver go home early, and had received a call from a friend in town, who I wanted to meet. As I drove home after that meeting, I would have sworn on five bibles that I was not intoxicated. During the stop, I told the officer as much. He insisted on the entire field sobriety/breathalyzer protocol; I refused, which I learned later requires immediate arrest. When I was finally transported to jail, I was taunted by several police officers, none of which would provide their names. As an example, at least two said, quote "we got ourselves Tony Buzbee." Now understand, I was a Marine in the infantry. I am not a sensitive person. But, I have never been arrested before, and had no idea that I, or anyone, would be treated in that manner. There were several other serious legal problems with the traffic stop and arrest, none worth mentioning here. After I was released, a prosecutor who had no role in my case accessed my file and leaked it to the press, as well as to a few local criminal defense lawyers. Several stories appeared in various newspapers and on TV about the arrest. Of course, this was very embarrassing to me and my family. I don't know why this prosecutor leaked my file but I do know she was immediately terminated. The first I heard about the leak was when I got a call from a news reporter for comment about my "DWI stop." There were other serious issues with my case as it progressed. As examples, a document came up missing from my court file, and the audio from my traffic stop also came up missing. Needless to say, the way the whole thing was handled pissed me off, and made me question whether I was being treated fairly. I knew I did not drive intoxicated. And, I trust juries, so I vowed to fight the case, to audit the crime lab, to take my case to trial, and prove my innocence in front of a jury, as well as prove a point. As you might expect, I hired very good lawyers, and was prepared to hire more, including those that specialized in DWI's. (There are some very good ones in this town.) Before I got fully engaged to fight, my lawyers suggested that, rather than spend thousands of dollars fighting the case, that I participate in a program where, if I met certain conditions, I would have my case dismissed without admission of guilt and without a trial. The conditions were subject to negotiation; as examples, some of them included me not driving for a time, taking an alcohol course, getting evaluated for my proneness for reoffending, and making a donation to MADD, as well as others. Frankly, because of my desire for closure, I took the negotiated deal that was offered. I quickly completed all of those items I promised in the agreement; as promised, the DA then dismissed the case. I am told that what I did is called Pretrial diversion. I don't know if the deal I reached with the DA is standard or not, and frankly I don't give a damn. I am a civil lawyer. When I take a case, the LAST thing I suggest to to a client is that I am going to get her or him the same result as every other lawyer in this town can get them. I seek the best for my clients, and, so far, I typically deliver that, times ten. As an aside, imagine that the best I could do for my clients was to seek the same result as any other run-of-the-mill civil lawyer in this town. If that were my approach, I likely wouldn't be living on River Oaks Blvd. Conversely, just as I expect the best results for my own clients, I also expect the best result for me when I am the client. From all the whining I have heard, and based on press reports, apparently my lawyers delivered. Any lawyer who suggests special treatment for me because "their clients have never gotten a good of deal as Tony Buzbee got" should look in the mirror and work to become a better lawyer. I am not going to apologize for demanding a good result, and having the financial wherewithal to get it. I worked for what I have and will spend it however I see fit. Finally, I have never met Devon Anderson; I do, however, give her credit for trying to maintain some professionalism after several individuals compromised my case and royally pissed me off. I took the deal offered by the DA's office because I wanted the whole mess behind me, but not because I felt I was guilty of anything. I think it is ironic that the newspaper reports suggest some sort of favor provided to me because I am a wealthy individual, or because I am a "fundraising powerhouse for candidates I support." The truth is the DA faced an uphill battle trying to prosecute me. I had great lawyers and I would have spent whatever it took to fight a charge I thought was flat wrong.
This experience has clarified for me those who are friends, and those who are not. One thing you can count on is that I am going to keep living my life the way I damn well please, without apology; those that know me know I waste none of my time commenting or discussing or gossiping about the personal business of others. I, however, don't mind at all those who have nothing better to do than spend their time discussing or gossiping about me. Be advised, I will gladly provide you the juicy entertainment you desire, so long as it involves me doing what I do.
