How do you verify authenticity of the watches you sell? And I don't just mean the serial number.

My greatest fear of buying a used watch is somewhere along the way parts have been swapped out or it's a really good fake.

2 things:

I buy from trusted sources and I authenticate myself. So I have the tools to open up the watches and check the movement.

I have got 2 fakes before. One I bought on eBay, and I felt it was off. It actually had an original movement, but the case and bracelet were aftermarket. Another one had an original bracelet and case but had a swapped fake movement.

I wear mine damn near every day (despite the other watches in my collection) because it's so versatile and I don't mind it getting beat/scratched up.

Greetings from Lyon, France.

After long await, here is my update to the post last year that caused quite the consternation.

The JLC Reverso (specifically in rose gold) has always been my dream dress watch. I'll need Farmer to let this one slide, but I think it is the perfect pairing with a tuxedo. After a trip to Zadok's with my then-girlfriend, I saw that she had interest in a couple Cartier pieces (of course), but that she also was enamored by the Reverso. This set the wheels turning in my head, and as plans to propose marriage started to take shape I became more resolute in my goal to make a his/hers gold Reverso pairing part of a wedding day.

The box pictured was purchased only one week after I decided I was going to marry her. Earlier purchase than I intended, but I came across a deal I just could not pass up. I took the picture of the package I posted here, opened up just to inspect that everything was in order, and then put the box away in a closet for the next year and a half. Never put the watch on my wrist.

After the proposal though, finding hers was much more of a challenge. I waited more than a year and a half after the purchase of the first before I found the lady's version. I had it engraved, and it arrived back from JLC only 3 days before our ceremony.



This was all a total surprise to her. She knew nothing about this. After exchanging rings, our officiant informed that we'd also exchange watches (he had some beautiful words about the important of time and cherishing every second). She was blown away and LOVES her watch. Mine has come in quite handy for our honeymoon, as the Duoface is a GMT. We are presently in Lyon and will take the train to Geneva on Friday. I will have more Watch updates later this week. Hopefully more photos of the watches from our wedding in the coming weeks.

Forget that, I've got one of those at home. What I don't have is a JLC Reverso

1. It's not perfect for a tux. It's made to be worn on the back of a horse. But as long as you feel good and confident about it, you do you.

2. I think you and your wife have excellent taste. The JLC Reverso is near the top of my list of favorite watches (I don't have one, my only JLC is a pink gold MC). The payoff ended up being worse the tease and long wait. One of the best posts on this thread.
