Where do y'all consider a brand like Marathon in this "hierarchy?" It's a brand I wasn't all that familiar with until the last couple of years, but the more I see of them, I really, really like what I see… almost as a "high-end" tool watch, if that makes any sense.

We will agree to disagree on that point. I get what you're saying, but just in price point alone Mido is higher end. I've held them and worn them. They are made to a higher standard than my PRX. And I love my PRX. Tissot, Bulova, Movado are all predominantly quartz watch makers sold in every mall in America. Although Tissot is definitely at the top of those three.

Tissot is Swatch's entry level mechanical brand. It's where you'd go after you were done with swatch disposable type watches. Not bad, but very basic stuff.

I think that only makes my point. Mido is only available at select, usually high end malls in the US. You don't find them in every Zales and Ben Bridge. I've checked them out in Europe, where they are much more ubiquitous and their quality is far above a Tissot. As is their price point.

Ben Bridge is an AD for Rolex, Omega, IWC,etc. Mido not being carried by Ben Bridge but being available at Macy's says the exact opposite of what you're saying.

This getting wrist time considering what else you have in your collection is just another tick mark of evidence that you're a true collector/enthusiast.

I wouldn't wear my nice watches on a boat either.

Edit to add: As an argument against nice watches on the water, my wife owns about three dozen pair of sunglasses. About 35 of those live on the bottom of Lake Lanier.

You are right. You've convinced me. Tissot, Movado and Bulova are all super high end. Good thing you can pick them up for $300. Deal of the century.

Comparing the likelihood of sunglasses coming off your face/hat/neck/wherever to a well-made watch coming off your wrist isn't a great comparison.

I wear my good dive watches in the lake and ocean. Maybe the only place I wouldn't wear them is floating the river because yeah - all those rocks jutting out combined with all the alcohol intake is essentially watch suicide.

No one is making that argument. You, however, are trying to say being available at select, high end Macy's only means more than if Mido was available at Ben Bridge. Ben Bridge isn't some super nice high end boutique, but they aren't anything to look your nose down when it comes to watches.

ETA all that plus Rolex, but that's it's own page on their website.

Um, that's exactly the argument. The poster said Tissot was higher end than Mido or CW. You can buy 5 Tissot watches for one Ocean Star or CW Supercompressor. That's the only reason I spoke up. Sorry if I don't know my mall watch dealers better. I don't buy watches at the mall.

Yah, not wearing a dive watch on a boat is an interesting take.

I chose the SKX009 this weekend for a sporting clays shoot and another guy on our team was wearing his SKX007 but with original plastic strap.

It's my one watch that I like to gather actual wear marks/stories on vs trying to keep it pristine.
