Speaking of game day watches. I got enough interest in an Aggie watch that I had designs made. Here you go. Let me know what you think. Each watch would come with a stainless steel bracelet, a maroon Zulu strap (like the one shown), a spring bar removal tool, a link removal tool, and a nice leather travel roll that's made right here in Texas. The price would be $1,250 and just as a refresher, this is a Swiss-made Ronda movement. In order to meet the minimums, I need to get 100 orders (watches) committed. This is where I'll need your help if this is something that you guys would really like. We need to spread the word. I doubt there will be 100 people just in this forum that will want this watch. Ideas or suggestions? It will take about 6 months to get the product in from the time I order it, so if this comes together quickly, it will be here in time for the football season. In full transparency, the Swiss only require 50% of the cost up front, so I'm willing to extend that to you guys as well. I think I'll set up a page where you'll put down a deposit and pay the rest when it arrives. Kind of a good financing option if you want to look at it that way.

In any case, I hope you guys like it. I'm definitely getting one. I'm happy to get creative here as well. I'd be happy to gift a sample to Ross Bjork or Jimbo if it would drum up interest. I don't know if you guys have those connections, but I just thought I would get the ol' brainstorm kicked off.

would this be the final version, or still making tweaks? I think most of us would vote block ATM over bevel. Since 12 is such an important number to Ags, maybe put the ATM logo at the 12 spot and Wasson logo where the ATM is now? Also, maybe a white or maroon bezel? Very cool idea in either case

If they are paying to license the logo, I imagine they have to use the university authorized version.

We can still tweak. I like the ideas. I will look for a 12 that is a different font as well. Anything else? Like the NATO?

I have often thought a company could have a line of watches called Gameday, in the official color line of all SEC schools and make a mint.

I'd rather have the official maroon color than a bevel logo, if I had to choose. Probably save hundreds.

Yeah, I'd be fine with true maroon, without the aTm, and think your potential sales would be greater. The special "12" would be subtle enough of a nod to the Aggie-ness.

Thanks for the feedback. I am also thinking about putting the ATM on the bracelet, where the "W" logo is today. Then leave the face alone, move the Wasson back down, and use a beveled "12" at the top. I know we all hate bevels, but I've researched all the fonts that use the the "12th Man" and that is the only one that would be recognizable.

Thoughts on that?

Would you say that lowering the cost is the paramount concern here? And that the difference between success and failure is $200?

I think 1,000 would likely move the needle for a lot of folks and like those ideas. The more I think on it, the beveled logo especially has the potential for the watch to look like a cheap gameday watch and we've all seen those and not make it obvious it's a swiss movement, custom design luxe boutique watch. I do think something on the face should make it TAMU-specific, but maybe not an ATM logo. Curious to hear others' thoughts there and not sure what else could make it TAMU-specific, but the beveled 12 would be unique.

I like the watch, but agree with some of this. I would prefer a watch that is good quality and maroon, with the TAMU callouts maybe more subdued.

That said, I will probably buy whatever version you end up settling on.

Big fan of showcasing 12.

My opinion only: I'm just saying that licensing fees are expensive and that will be passed on. The maroon and "12" will sell this watch, not the beveled aTm and those are license free (I think). Maybe spend that money on licensing Gig'em on the band. the NATO is a solid choice that could be stitched?

My take is the guys on this thread would prefer quality and the right color maroon.

However,

The masses which is where this sells or not would probably prefer a cheaper price point and the official logo.

If you can keep it in the Seiko price ranges you probably have a chance with the masses. Over $500 and it might as well be $1k and appeal to the watch aficionado crowd.

Well, we can rule out the sub-$500 price range. I'd have to switch to a quartz movement or do everything via sea freight, which would take forever and I don't trust it. These watches move back and forth between Switzerland and Hong Kong for the quality assurance process and to get the bracelet assembled and for engraving.

With that said, I think there's enough feedback here to start to hone in on a few final designs. Let me give it some thought and I'll be back.

I love A&M, but personally I'd rather keep the face clean and get something subtle showing support for A&M. So count me in if you take off the beveled A&M off the face.

I agree. If you could settle on a stylized "12" numeral that would be a callout to TAMU that would be great.

If you're selling these it might make sense to offer both. One sub $500 and a nice automatic. I figure 80/20 rule here between your target market (the masses) and watch guys.

A lot of people like A&M, but it's got to be perceived as quality, yet unexpensive to purchase something like this. Then there's us watch degeneratives that would want a nicer automatic movement that fits the A&M theme, but is understated.

Here are the options on the 12:

My thoughts:
  • The beveled 12, which most of us hate, would actually stand out the most and be recognizable.
  • The foundation 12 is also somewhat recognizable, I just hate the font
  • The jersey style 12 without the bevel, looks good, but would not be different enough from the current font to stand out
  • I actually like the last idea the best. Do a standard, un-beveled white block 12 but with a border, like a dark gray. The rest of the numerals will be un-bordered.

Thoughts?

The only one that would be recognizable to Aggies without the actual logos would be the beveled 12. And there will be a very loud contingent that *****es about it.

Could you perhaps have a larger font 12 and then have 'th' lightly etched in a rather small font? Something subtl that people would have to look for and isn't noticable to just a quick look

For me, yes. Only Aggies would get it and its still subtle since it doesn't have the actual logos or Texas Aggies on the watch. You'd have to be up close to see it and yet it keeps the dial fairly clean.

Yes usually around 10-15% off. I think they had a price increase recently though so I would have to confirm if the discount is the same.
