I'm gonna' have to spend some time this evening digging through this guy's posting history so I can figure out what the heck this is about.

It's not just about waiting. Most AD's aren't going to sell a random person a highly coveted (even if not rare) watch without buying other things from them, either jewelry or other in stock watches. Sure, most will "put you on the list" but I wouldn't hold your breath for the phone call to come buy your watch.

Obviously this isn't universal, but it's become a lot more common than it should be.

My brother just bought a 41mm Datejust with the silver-gray face and diamonds in the dial. He went through some dude in the Jewelry Exchange building. He paid about what was posted in the tweet on the previous page.

He loves it so I'm happy for him but I'm not on board with the diamonds for a dude's watch. Plus, I tried it on and looks way too small on my wrist.

41 mm is too small? Unless you're Shaq, I find that hard to believe.

Believe what you want but it's way too small.

Interesting.
So 78% posting on boards that are not relevant to the main purpose of TexAgs.

6'3"+ former D1 lineman. I do have the fats but not in the arms and my wrists are over 9" in circumference. Anything smaller than 44mm looks out of proportion.

Alright, well looks like you do have wrists as big as Shaq's.

Okay now I'm fascinated - do you have any dress watches? What would be your ideal dress (or datejust style sporty dress) watch that works on a 9" wrist? Just strap a pocket watch on your wrist??

(Also, Farmer definitely needs to eat some crow on this one.)

Nah, I don't do dress watches. I just have my Seamaster and Apple watch. I was thinking I might like something dressier than my usual dive watch but I'm not as into watches as most of y'all on here and dressier stuff just looks too off- like a fat chick in skinny jeans.

I like dress watches, but just don't have a need for them anymore. Earlier in my career when I was doing biz casual or suits, sport coats, etc. sure. I was also going to a lot more weddings back then and trying to impress dates with fancy dinners, etc. Now, I'm married, work from home mostly and when I am in the office it's super casual jeans and polo environment. A diver is as fancy as I need.

No knock to those who are always flaunting fancy dress watches on here, but I do wonder how much use they get. If it's not much, I get that too -- I have plenty of collectibles that rarely get any use that I have a respect for. Or, maybe these dudes are going to charity galas and whatnot on the regs. Or, maybe they just like to play catch in the yard with their kid with a 30k dress watch on. To each his own...

Let's get this back on track with some watches. Today I purchased these 2, the Seiko will be for rough wearing and the Hamilton for work. First time I've purchased a watch that cost more than $500. Hadn't even heard of that brand until this thread. Thanks everyone.

About 7-8 years ago, I met the lady who is now CEO of Shinola. She gave us a personal tour of their factory in Detroit. Good company with a good story and eclectic product mix. I later bought one of their watches. Since then my tastes have evolved but I wear it when I don't want to put my expensive watches on display, ie higher crime areas and internationally. It's fine for what it is.
