I'm still toying with the idea of pulling the trigger on the Pelagos FXD. Such a cool watch.

I had heard of Seiko mods but didn't really know what they were.

Not what I was envisioning. This seems more to be fake Rolexes that have a Seiko dial swapped in.
You're looking for something more like this:

https://www.namokimods.com/

Well this looks familiar

Go to "Browse by Model" and pick one. Then look at the 10 pages of mod options. That's what I'm referring to.

Made the mistake of calling it Long-dji-nus one time, and was corrected very snootily "it's prah-nanced lawn-zheen"

Don't want to let the Seiko craze die off TOO quickly: here are a couple I'm working on re-furbishing. I clean the case, put new gaskets on, new crystal, hands, etc. Planning on taking these in for a service once I'm done and then giving them to family as gifts. The one on the left I got from another Texagger, it had a busted crystal and was extremely dirty.

That's awesome. I real like that one second from the right. It would look good on a leather strap.

Any idea on value? Seems like the run from $100 to expensive online.

The one on the left is probably worth $350+, the other three are $150 or so depending on condition. Not the most expensive or rare Seikos, but I like the fairly clean, classic styles, smaller cases, and the affordability allows me to purchase more I've started trying to find more of the SS watches as the base metal ones pretty much all have a "patina" from the top layer wearing off.

I've also started putting together a list of more rare/discontinued Seikos that I want to buy - my wife saw me working on it and told me to send it to her so that's a good sign HA. Mostly standard stuff like the "Willard" from Apocalypse now and some other divers, and then some other stuff closer to what I'm refurbishing.

That Seiko Lord Marvel 5740-8000 is pretty.

Let me know if you come across another one like that one second from the right.

I'm a huge Seiko fan boy... have been since I was a kid, thanks to my Pops.

As an LOLpoor that will very likely never be dropping five-figures on a wristwatch, my current grail piece is the blue Tudor Pelagos.

4 figures is a lot to drop on a wrist watch. Heck 3 figures is nowadays when the time's on our cell phones.

A Tudor Pelagos is a worthy grail piece - maybe the most specced out watch for the money.
(I'm currently wrestling with pulling the trigger on a BB58)
Price of entry is high, but if can find a nice preowned they retain value. Meaning if you get tired of it, want to try something else, need cash, etc you can flip it for same or more than you paid for it. I bought used, wear mine daily, and could flip it tomorrow for more than i paid 4 yrs ago. I dont want to, cuz i like it, but there is peace of mind knowing the value appreciates.

Depending on the size of dude you are I would look at the BB58 over the Pelagos. Can be worn dressed up, down or casual. Just my 2 cents....

Got one of the Uncle Seiko jubilees for the BB58. It's what the watch should have come with, instead of that rivet band that never fits right.

Man i love the old dress seikos (lord marvel, ks, lordmatic) but they're all like 36mm or smaller and not particularly thin. I think they are more exciting to look at than to wear

SARB033 and 035 are my favorite Seikos.

38mm dial and 11mm thickness, they are a great size for a dress watch. I have the 035 and should've gotten the 033 before it was discontinued.

Love the original Cocktail Time... Wish I would've bought one before they discontinued it. I had one in my Amazon cart forever and just never pulled the trigger. Now I'll have to pay 4-5x...

And I don't love the Presage logo on the new release. I'd want the original.

Taken from a thread on the premium board:

Can anyone ID Walter Nolen's watch? Stewart's looks like a customized Royal Oak.

    What would you do?

I am looking at a vintage watch from a seller in which I have confidence. It is the model and year having the hour markers I particularly like. It is also a day date version of that model. The problem is, it's in a foreign language. Not English, or even Spanish, which, whoever lives / lived in Texas hasn't picked up enough to know the days of the week. There must be English versions of this watch out there, but I have looked and haven't found any.

Would you by a day / date watch in a language you do not speak?

Buy the watch, use it as an excuse to learn the foreign language; impress the hell out of people who ask why you have it

Thanks Silian. I can learn the days of the week, but would not even attempt to learn the full language.

Is there a reason you are being so cryptic?

    What language is it?

The only reason is that anyone in the vintage watch market could find it easily if I went into more detail.
