Pure trash move by Omega.

Or an extremely classy one. They release a series of whimsical homage pieces in what is probably the second golden age of space exploration, priced to make them accessible to all, and released them in what could be a great horological social events, then before the release it becomes apparent that the only people who are getting the watches at the release are ammo and concert ticket scalpers and other opportunist dirtbags, and the only people who are going to end up with them are those with enough discretionary income to to buy the real thing, and likely already have one, so these will just end up living in a drawer with the battery removed and never see the light of day. So they say f it, and before the ebay auctions end drop the announcement that there will be no shortage of these watches and anybody who wants one will be able to get one for msrp. They will probably sell 20x as many of these in a week as they sell of real moonwatches in 10 years, and the markup per watch is probably similar

I'm not following how everything you just wrote equates to "extremely classy."

I can't get on board with those Tudor Black Bays. That hour hand just ruins the whole watch for me.

Agreed...if I was going to spend $3000+ on a new watch it wouldn't be a Tudor. None of their designs pop that much IMO. Hour hand is too funky also.

FYI- CW is increasing their prices as of 4/4. At least they're transparent about their pricing (3x cost to build).

I'm a pretty big fan of the North Flag.

It was basically Tudor planting their flag in the watch world saying we're not like a poor man's Rolex anymore. Not that there is anything wrong with being Rolex's little brother.

How about a discussion on a real Moonwatch... Assuming I wanted a new 3861, should I go with the hesalite or sapphire? I know the hesalite is more authentic to the original, but the sapphire back just looks so cool to me. Thoughts?

I'd go sapphire sandwich to be able to see the movement.

But have you checked out the Railmaster? Love that sapphire dome...

EDIT: Do not endorse the rope bracelet with this , but it's a good angle for seeing the curve.

I have had both. And unless they've really improved the hesalite, I would probably not select that if it was my only moonwatch.

Always liked the sapphire sandwich.

But for me the struggle is between Professional or FOIS?

beautiful watch. Love the throwback Omega logo as well.

For whatever reason, the Railmaster has never really done it for me, but that one is really cool.

They need to drop the power reserve. I think it works for a Grand Seiko because it shows off the exceptional quality and attention to detail from GS (see below).

But for Tudor I think it distracts from a clean design. And I'd drop the date too and just make it the affordable version of the Explorer I.

In general, I just like the power service on a watch. Nomos does it regularly too.

Sapphire sandwich for durability and being able to see the movement. That's my take anyway.

A few things:
They already dropped the North flag line (only one with power reserve)
They also had and have since dropped the Ranger, which was the Expy 1 analogue.

The Air-King and Milgauss are widely perceived to be on the brink of discontinuation or renewal. Due to the length of time both models have managed to cling onto their position within Rolex's catalogue, it is unlikely they will be discontinued in their entirety. They will probably be redesigned from top to bottom.

Following the 36mm Explorer's launch last year, it is likely that Rolex is seeking to cast an eye on previous models and variants as a source of inspiration for novelties. An Air-King with a 3-6-9 dial layout and bright colour options is plausible, given its historical significance in the Air-King collection. So too is the option of a 34mm variant, which remained in the Air-King's arsenal for years. Of course, the movement will also be changed to that in the Explorer, the cal. 3230.

The Milgauss may well be updated, given its link to the failed world land speed record project, Bloodhound LSR. A move back to the Milgauss' roots is probably in order with a new, more anti-magnetic movement and fresh dial options. A new case design is also a possibility.

I always thought the Air King was more closely linked to the Project Bloodhound thing than the Milgauss. The Air King's dial is basically an exact replica of the Bloodhound gauges aside from the leftover 3-6-9 from the Explorer.

I have the sapphire sandwich. I wanted the sapphire for improved durability and see through caseback. The SS is a slightly upscaled version as it has polished center links ( if you get the bracelet) and applied Omega logo at 12:00 versus painted on the hesalite. I actually just ordered a custom strap for mine a couple weeks ago. Will report back when it arrives

Breitling just announced their new Navitimer for its 70th anniversary with a ton of size, color, and strap/bracelet options.

46mm is way too big for me, but the 41mm mint green on a brown strap looks sexy. I also like the ice blue on black or stainless but 43mm plus pushers is probably bigger than I personally care for.

A lot of pretty colors and combos.

Just waiting for that guy that says Tudor does nothing original (and then complains about not liking any of their original watches) to complain these are Daytona knock-offs.

That's disappointing. I really like the Air King, I just can't justify it right now. That was going to be my next watch, unless I decided to just wait and get a Patek...

Yes, it looks like each color, other than black, is only available in one size. There's a blue and green option in each 41, 43, and 46, but it's a different shade for each size.
