Here is the watch I mentioned. I've used Mr.K to replace batteries before in other watches. But I wouldn't drop off a Rolex with him I fear I would show up and his place was shut down.

Any idea what this watch might be worth. I've had it since in the late 80's. Given to me by someone who acquired it in the early 80's as a gift. It wasn't new when they were given it.

What do you boys want for breakfast BBQ ?.....OK Chili.

I'd search that model on Chrono24 and see what they are listed for and assume a little less.

not sure why the filter flagged the picture of the broken band!

Hal Martins looks sketchy as hell but when I took my 1920s Omega in to get serviced, Jadeveon Clowney was in there with his agent buying himself a Rolex and also one for his momma. It is legit.
They are great

This is the option I went with for repair. They are giving me an estimate of value and a quote on the repair by 6/18.

Thanks to those on this thread for the referral. Will report back when I hear from them and of course with pictures post repair!

I would wear the hell out of that Air King once it's running well again. I really like that watch.

Agree, that's a great looking watch! I'd probably just fix the band (are you sure it doesn't just need a spring bar, or is there something else wrong with it? ) and polish the crystal in place and leave the rest of the character

The clasp is aftermarket, but the original was kept after it broke so I actually did not put much effort looking into what is wrong with the current band. I am going to see if they can repair the original clasp and put that back on.

So I'm looking at $1,100 to repair the Air King.

$600 service to movement, cleaning, polish
$300 crown
$60 tube
$120 crystal

Seems reasonable from what I've read. Next 4-6 weeks can't go fast enough. Really looking forward to seeing the finished product.

So I may be looking to get in the watch game. Where is the best place in town to look at watches for guys?

I'd like to keep price under $4k. It would be an everyday watch as well as for nicer occasions with suits. My current watch is a Garmin golf one if that tells you anything.

What recs do y'all have for me? I'm a casual, jeans/boots/golf polo type of guy for work. I'm sorta leaning tag aqua racer currently but honestly I have no clue. Help me out.

Honestly I just feel like a clown as a grown man who's only "fancy" watch is a fossil. I need to step up the game some.

You could get a new Tudor or a very nice used Omega.

Poo on tag, respectfully.

A Tag would not be my first choice given your budget parameters

Why not? Not meaning to be a smart ass. What the knock on Tag? I see them advertise on golf channel. I thought they were legit?

They have name recognition from heavy marketing but it seems that they put most of their effort into that rather than making quality watches.

If you really want a tag ill sell you an aquaracer calibre 5 for Less than a quarter of your budget.

Viewed as overpriced fashion watches by many, terrible resale value, quality issues, etc.

Would 100% 10/10 times get an Aquis over an Aquaracer, especially the new line with the in house caliber. 5 day reserve and a ridiculous 10 year warranty. They look and feel great.

But there's a big difference between aqua racer territory and under 4K.. at that budget I'd almost certainly get a Black Bay. And I know a lot of folks **** on Breitling but the super ocean heritage is a beautiful watch for that budget.

I had a Tag for 25 years and decided I wanted a Rolex but I got tired of playing the game (wanted a new one and didn't want to go to the gray market), so I bought a Tudor and have been very happy with it.

The Timepiece Gentleman, a grey market dealer from dallas, apparently shut down in the middle of the night and disappeared this week. Millions of dollars in seed money and consignment watches vanished with them.

Ii had $4k to spend today I'd be looking at a leather bracelet Cartier Santos or Tank to upgrade my current dress watch (Timex Marlin). But I'm in a different spot than you since I already have a couple pieces in the collection (Speedy, Seamaster, Glashutte Senator, customized SKX007).

$4k in the watch world is kind of a weird spot. It sounds like a lot of money but it's not enough for a truly well made in-house movement with some cache. So you end up with some highly marketed or fashion brand mass manufactured movements OR a no name in-house movement brand that no one recognizes and would be shocked if you told them it cost $4k. The Cartier watches I posted fit into the first category but they both have interesting historical significance/stories even though they are mass manufactured fashion brand watches.

Welcome to the rabbit hole...

Nothing wrong with a Tag............. unless you are an intern. In all honesty for that budget get the Tudor BB58 and dont look back. When you get that $4k Xmas bonus, take the aforementioned Tudor and apply it to an Explorer or Air King.

Yes it is sort of an addiction but there a worse things to be addicted to.

The Santos is on my list. Really sharp, different watch from a "less known" (compared to Rolex or Omega, anyway) brand that still has a great history.

Cartier is probably the most recognized jewelry brand in the world. Hard to call it a "less known" anything

I think a Tank is my next watch purchase.

If it's my first watch and I have 4k to spend omega 300 is my #1 choice. They retail slightly hgher but you can easily get 20% off and free shipping / insurance / 0 sales tax from an AD in California. Did it several times. Here is a link to a grey just for reference.

If this is the driving factor in making a new watch purchase why go all the way from fossil to Omega type watches?

It seems like there is a nice tier of watches in the $300-600 range that you're skipping over that would be a step up without being several grand. Bulova, Tissot, Citizen for instance.

That all black Seamaster about 4 down from the top would be $4k well spent on a first piece in the collection. Especially for a golf, fish, hunt type guy.
