Ah yes. When all fails make a tasteless all black ceramic edition. Worked for Hublot. I'm sure the junk that is Tudor attracts similar types.

To each their own. I'm wearing a tasteless black ion watch as I type this.

Hublot is one of the most innovative and badass companies there is. What they do with metals and pushing new technology is cutting edge

I understand no crown guards on a dress watch, but why on earth omit them from a tool/sport watch?

it's their vintage design, i believe. if it screws in, i imagine that crown guards aren't really necessary for 99.99% of their watch owners.

Personally, I like it. But this is maybe the most interesting part:

Quote:

This is the first watch from Tudor to be certified by the Swiss Federal Institute Of Metrology in Bern (METAS) which in 2015, in partnership with Omega, developed a new certification standard for wristwatches. METAS certification requires the watch in question to be Swiss-made and COSC-certified, and as well, to pass a battery of additional tests. These include testing the watch for precision in 6 positions and at two levels of power reserve (100% and 33%) as well as waterproofness, length of power reserve, and most importantly, resistance to magnetic fields. The new Black Bay Ceramic is resistant to magnetic fields up to at least 15,000 gauss, which makes it, for all intents and purposes, completely resistant to magnetism in daily life.
I imagine there will be more Tudors with this designation at some point.

Good for them, I am fan of the brand. I like what they are doing with new materials & improving accuracy in recent years. My beef with black bays is the no-date. I gotta have that date! ha

Yeah, I have to agree with Farmer1906, I don't really care for that design. But the METAS certification is definitely something that interests me. I'm curious to see where else they go with this.

Really, really want a Fifty Fathoms.

I was in a Fifty Fathoms mood back in early 2020 pre-pandemic. I was in Vegas and there were Blancpain dealers everywhere. It was so hard to resist picking one up but I did thank goodness. Not sure I would've regretted it but pretty good chance there could've been some buyer's remorse.

No idea how much this watch costs (probably outlandish) but I'll take this funky thing over a royal oak any day!

Howdy folks!

My brother in law inherited a 1991 rolex oyster perpetual air king precision 78350 from his grandfather.

Unfortunately, his grandfather never had the watch serviced or cleaned and wore it daily (including in the shower) for decades until a few years before he passed. This watch needs servicing, polish, a new crystal and a new clasp. The watch still runs.

I live in Houston. Where do I take this to get serviced? What is a watch like this (in poor condition) worth? What ballpark range do you think it will cost to renew the watch?

Thanks for any and all advice!

I'm sure Hal Martin can service and appraise it for you.

Hal Martins looks sketchy as hell but when I took my 1920s Omega in to get serviced, Jadeveon Clowney was in there with his agent buying himself a Rolex and also one for his momma. It is legit.

Screw the crown back in on the air king. If tube seals have let go over time then you could be adding moisture inside while its unscrewed. Service with parts and polish id gues 5/600ish minimum. Value in good condition is prolly 3.5/4ish

It's not that long ago when you could get 20% off msrp on a SS blue RO 15300 and even 15400s. GMT Rolex could have been bought under msrp too and any of the precious metal rolexes were at a good discount.

Long time lurker on this thread...

Just picked up an Oris Carl Brashear (calibre 401). Have had it a few days now, and its starting to get a good patina. Will be interesting to see what it looks like in a year.

can anyone recommend a decent watch repair shop in Houston? I have a fairly old Rolex (probably mid to early 70's) that needs a tune up, and also needs some work to fix a crack in the hinge of the band clasp.

I went to IW Marks and their solution was send to Rolex to have the band worked on or replaced and they quoted a starting cost of $700...

Maybe I'm wrong, but any reputable Rolex distributor is going to send watches to the regional Rolex shop in Dallas. $700 is fairly cheap. I was told regular service usually ran $1,200.

I talked to a sales rep at an AD recently, and she said all service work on Rolex watches had to be done by Rolex. The company wasn't sending out parts, and if they found non-Rolex parts on your watch, they sent it back unserviced.

Great looking Oris. I've been eyeing bronze watches a lot lately. All of their special editions are pretty dang cool. I see 5 days power, does that mean it has the new in house movement inside? My Aquis barely gets a day and a half if I'm lucky with the generic movement
remko12
How long do you want to ignore this user?

Thanks.

Yes - it has the new movement with 5 day power reserve and to top it off, Oris gives a 10 year guarantee.

Yeah, I don't think you are going to find anyone to service your Rolex. Maybe Mr. K but I doubt it. And it would take forever.

somehow. I think he's down to 2 days a week.

My dad had his watch there for several years (although I think he eventually just forgot about it so that's not all on crazy old Mr. K).
