These $200 and $300 mass produced crap isn't high end.

Someone make a slightly better than Fossil thread.

forgot to post this pic last week. Another successful TexAgs hookup. Bought this from an Ag (who bought it from FTAC) and gave it to my wife. She's loving it.

That's a good one. Seriously one of the best condition vintage datejusts I have had! Congrats on the purchase.

You're right.

To my fairly untrained eye, it looked to be in excellent shape, and the folks at the shop I took it to for inspection said the same.

I hadn't worn the Speedy X-33 in a year or so... So I swapped out the Specter band for something low key I had in the box and have been enjoying it this week.

Ah, good. Farmer is back telling us what to like and how to wear it.

So, let's stop talking about $200 Seiko's. (Ironic those are blue starred posts on the same page.)

To me it seems that the since removed OP asking where to find high end watches in Houston has been answered many times over. The thread has been derailed (in my opinion positively derailed, and I assume the opinion of most still here) into more of a "Watch Enthusiasts" discussion.

If it's the opinion of most or of moderators that this thread should be limited to the original intent of simply locating high end watches in Houston, then I understand that. But I for one am in favor of letting this now near 7K post thread evolve into a general watch enthusiasm thread, which will occasionally include discussion of some sub $1K pieces.

Now who can argue with that? I think we're all indebted to TheOC16 for clearly stating what needed to be said. I'm particularly glad that these lovely children were here today to hear that speech. Not only was it authentic frontier gibberish, it expressed a courage little seen in this day and age.

Sorry man, I found an incredible watch at a great value that I'd love to share with the group but it's $50 below the minimum price threshold for the thread so I can't post it.

You're allowed to like whatever crap you want. I don't care how bad your taste is. Just stop flooding a perfectly average thread with cheap stuff.

I may be new to watches but I'm learning that just because it's expensive doesn't mean it's nicer.

So, do we disregard the title or start a new damn thread? I vote disregard the title and make this a watch chat.

I was actually thinking about a "what next for the collection" post, and maybe even Farmer would have some input.

See? Triggered

Internet is serious business

I feel like farmer's jabs at us paupers are mostly tongue in cheek and i enjoy his posts from that perspective.

Honestly I'd rather see seiko mods than another 116610 but that's probably just me.

Are you trying to say a timepiece with a tourbillon is not better than these Siekos?

Value compared to what you pay?

Probably not.

I was just about to post that oddly I actually enjoy his belligerence. An epic thread needs a villain and I think he plays the part well.

All a matter of perspective! Aren't tourbillons proven to be fancy features that don't actually improve the movements in today's watches?

I for one got a kick out of the "slightly better than Fossil" line, cracked me up. Makes me want to find some tux/Fossil combo photos.

I'm glad that the thread appears to be morphing into a general watch thread. The higher end watches give us plebs something to aspire to, but it's nice to to have a place to share deals or any other watch-related topic.

Okay but counterpoint - what is the value with the Seiko? Is it really timekeeping? You've already got that built into your phone.

With the tourbillion it is not about the function of the complication - it's about the art of that engineering feature. Appreciating that art, carrying it with you on your wrist.

So I think there's a decent argument that the tourbillon carries more value in its art than a Seiko does in sheer timekeeping. Argument to be made.

well if you want to see a fun mod, here's my Casioak.

looks like AP finally shut down the kids mod site. He had some pretty cool watches. quality is pretty excellent on this thing.

Casio actually makes them. Look up the GA-2100 and GM-2100.

Edit: I see that yours actually looks like a mod rather than the real ones from Casio (screws, integrated strap, etc).
Diggity

definitely similar. The Casioak is just a bit less Casio and more Oak.

For the record, I hate mine. Bought it as my gym watch but the legibility is terrible - the hour markers and hands are dern near the same color as the dial (certain versions are better about that but I bought black - mistake if you actually want to know the time).

Additionally it's uncanny how often one of the hands is able to block the digital seconds readout, making timing rest between sets impossible.

Anyhow - cool watch, but terrible for what I wanted it for. If anybody wants it, let me know.
Diggity

that stinks. Not sure it would have ever been my pick for a "gym watch" but can see that being frustrating.

All this Seiko talk…….ordered a SRPD69 a couple days ago and was able to snag it for $200. It's simply amazing and has a nice weight and feel to it.

I know what I'm rocking on game days.

I, for one, appreciate you posting this watch, no matter the cost or "high endness." I grabbed one as well because of this thread. Never been a watch guy before (except for an Apple Watch), but appreciate what this thread has taught me and I may have caught the bug now.

Thanks man. I was recently brought into it.

I spend too much money on high end bourbon. I don't have the cash flow to have nice bourbon and luxury watches.

My Omega SeaMaster and Seikos will tide me over just fine. If you ever need some BTAC, EHTBP, Weller Line ups and other brown water, send me a PM.
