Has Katy HS's FFA program shrank, or is it still the largest in Texas?

KISD is the only district in the greater Houston area with that number of HS and only one stadium, so it's a necessity.

The one thing I really disagree with is building it next door to Rhodes. I understand that most of the land out there is probably already tied up in residential development hands, and that KISD already owns that land, but what I gigantic CF that area will be after games.

I live in Katy and they do need another stadium. My problem is they should build it by Cinco Cinco/Seven Lakes since the vast majority of people live here. Add Thompkins and you have 3 schools very close together. Why build the new stadium basically right doen the street from the existing one? Again, needs to be centralized in my opinion.

Even if the district could get land, i dont think the cinco/seven lakes crowd WANTS a stadium in their neighborhood. They would complain about the stadium lights, sound, and traffic. After growing up in south Katy, I've learned that the residents there all want stores and malls, they just dont want those things right by their neighborhood.

You weren't around when Falcon Point and Pin Oak residents fought like crazy against Katy Mills then I take it?

I was, but I was in the 8th grade when it opened. Plus I lived near Mason and 1093 when it was being built so I couldn't have been any further away from Katy Mills while still having Katy address so I never hear much complaining from my parents and neighbors then.

I want to know more about the bells and whistles this thing is supposed to come with, but all that link mentions is that it is going to have a field house that lots of other groups can use too, besides football.

If I had to guess, I would bet that not much attention was paid to the notion of reigning in costs and better designs were available.

How about we just not allow Mayde Creek and Morton Ranch to use Rhodes? He'll, 7 Lakes should be included in that group.

not really anywhere to put a stadium within Cinco Ranch...even if there were, I would NOT want that to happen

Pretty amazing that all the new homes out there paying 3.7% property tax rates only services the minimum debt obligations and running costs of the district. This new bond will push the district over $2 BILLION in debt.

That would be a bad ass HS football stadium

It's got a bunch of unnecessary stuff too like the chairbacks all around and skyboxes and the architecture on the outside.

You could do a bad ass Dynamo HS football stadium stripped down from this for $40 Million if BBVA was $60

Bbva was $95mm. The dynamo spent $60mm and the citt kicked in $35mm

I've attended more than a dozen games at both Cy-Fair iSD stadiums...I've never seen them even half full. The one and only time was 20+ years ago when my home school was playing our district rival, it was their homecoming and the winner went to the play off's (first time for my old school).

Their is no need for the double decker, 12,000 seat stadiums, in any district in Houston.

The argument for the Berry Center is it is one stop shopping for prom, homecoming dances, and many other large events in the district. Not sure how the $$ truely work out (will we ever see the real numbers) but that's how it was sold. Cheaper for all the schools in the long run.

But the 12k - seat stadium...don't really see the need for those.

Whomever mentioned the parking does have a good point. Not sure any HS in CFISD has enough parking for the 2-3k people that do regularly show up.

They already own the land next to Rhodes for the new stadium. Since I live right near Seven Lakes and Thompkins I would probably prefer it to be closer as well but the cost of piece of land large enough for a stadium and parking would likely be pretty expensive. Not that big of deal IMO to drive a little ways for a hand-full of football games per year if they can save a ton of money by avoid the purchasing a second parcel of land.

AgCPA95, ture but I was thinking on the southside of 1093 for the new stadium. I live in Grand Lakes and would like a stadium a little closer to our house. My 3 boys will be attending 7 Lakes with 2 probably paying football. I think it would create more of a sense of community if a stadium was closer to 7 Lakes/Cinco.

Not sure if it matters, but the land south of 1093 is zoned to Lamar Consolidated ISD.

Is it really with the few million dollars for the STEM center? It will primarily be used for school clubs like the robotics teams, and not have an effect on any graded coursework. Doesn't sound like much ROI.

You've also got to account for the "savings" they will find so that they can build a new junior high, which is already almost at critical need.

Rezoning is something else they should look at. But parents don't want this in the least bit.

Is there any way to find out the bids put together to determine the size for these bonds?

I try to give people the benefit of the doubt but after hearing about some of the buildings put up in Fort Bend, the padded amounts of the construction contracts, and that to whom these jobs were awarded it just seems like a huge scam sometimes.

Y'all should take a look at some of the small towns. If for no other reason, this is a good website with a bunch of Texas High School Football Stadiums: http://www.texasbob.com/stadium/

Some good ones from the Panhandle and West Texas, for example.
Bovina, TX

Whiteface, TX

Lazbuddie, TX

El Paso High School, Built "into" the school

We live in CyFair. The Berry Center is nice, and I enjoy going to football games there. However, it was sold to the public as a place for the school district to utilize for a variety of school functions beyond football games.
How many actual school functions take place there? Apart from football games and graduation ceremonies, not many.

Last night we were at one of the high schools for a 3 school orchestra event (1 hs, 2 ms). The orchestra couldn't fit all of the orchestra students on stage and parent seating was limited. Same goes for High School Band concerts. These are always at the high school and part of the band has to stand in the isles to play, limiting the view along with limited seating again.
The perfect venue for these events would be the Berry Center, but no, the Berry Center instead rents the space for non educational uses. It would "cost" the high school to much to use that space.

I see two flaws with the Miami stadium: 1) No way that holds Katy's fans 2) Those mountains are going to cost way more than $100 million to build.

But seriously, thanks for the link. Very cool stuff there.

Just got an email from katyisd claiming the stadium is a good deal!...compared to the Allen stadium of course...freakin' clowns.

quote:
Katy ISD Proposed Stadium-Multipurpose Facility vs. Allen ISD Stadium Cost
Recent published articles about the Katy ISD Student Activity Facilities Bond package have compared the District's proposed second stadium to Allen ISD's stadium that was built in 2010. Specifically, that the District's stadium will cost approximately $10 million more, yet seat 4,000 less.
While it may seem easy to compare one District's stadium to another, one must take into account that stadiums are designed with varying specifications and scope, program, and site requirements. For instance, several major components, such as parking and a field house, are included in the cost of Katy ISD's project costs, but were not part of Allen ISD's stadium project. In addition, when comparing to other stadiums, construction cost, inflation and building materials must be considered.
The following chart breaks down the cost of the two stadiums, deleting from the Katy estimate items that were not part of the Allen ISD project. This more realistic apples-to-apples comparison of the two facilities shows that the cost of Katy ISD's second stadium – multipurpose facility is significantly lower.

It just strikes me as unethical for a school district to campaign for something that requires voter appoval, especially using tax dollars. They should present the issue and the pros and cons but no more. Otherwise, it's like the taxpayers are paying to have someone tell them they have to spend more.

CyFair ISD uses there education related e-mail distributions to push their political agenda and bonds too. Thay seems totally inappropriate to me too. Is it illegal though? I doubt it. They should at least have to share the information and list with those opposing their bond issue.

It is illegal for public funds to be utilized to promote bonds, but I do not think the ISD is considered public funds.
