I've been here since '09 and am still searching for good Tex-Mex...
quote:Fair point. I'm just hoping to find something in the ballpark.
90% of places in Houston don't touch El Tiempo. I'm certainly not expecting anything in Austin to come close.

quote:Mecca? This is a Mexican food thread, it sounds like you're describing places with gasoline margaritas. I don't think I've ever seen a sober person in El Tiempo & Trudy's food is pretty bad.
El Tiempo in Htown is the mecca.
I do have a nostalgic soft spot for trudys tho.

Habaneros - very small joint but the food is really good. It's not a place you go to have drinks though...just a good meal.
Enchiladas Y Mas - Similar to Habaneros...not a drinks place, just good Tex-Mex.

It's a food thread, not a margarita thread.
quote:Right, but they've also got really good food. It's certainly Tex Mex and not true Mexican, but there's Hugo's for that.
It's a food thread, not a margarita thread.

Sorry for the slight derail but I saw an article in the last Spirit magazine about an Aggie-owned latin restaurant in Houston, Churrascos. The plate pictures looked amazing. Anybody know this place?
