We shopped at Allen Honda earlier this year and were so turned off by the automatic "market adjustment" of at least $4k on every single vehicle! We drove on down to Douglass Mazda and got exactly what we wanted without any extra markup, fees or charges. The cost was transparent from the start. No pressure, easy to work with.

Felt like I was cheating on Allen, but fed up with all of their add-on and market adjustment BS.

Allen Honda told me would have to pay for $2k worth of add-ons that weren't even on the car yet. It was in transit. And that's on top of a market adjustment. I walked out

If buying Ford, go to Huntsville. Bill Fick does none of this junk. My last two trucks have been very simple and very good deals.

We bought 2 cars in Houston this year due to prices being higher and the "deal add-ons" in BCS. Allen Honda almost got my mother in law last year with that crap. Luckily my husband went with her to finalize the deal. They went to Houston and bought one instead. You can refuse all of it but it should be presented as optional, not mandatory. Add it into the price if you can't opt out of it. I will not buy from shady people. Sewell Cadillac in Houston was our best experience ever purchasing a car, and it was used.

The last truck I bought I told them I'd give them the price on the website.

They said that was cash price.

I said I had a cashiers check and a check from my credit union, besides a duffel bag of money this was cash as far as they're concerned.

They tried to beg and plead and do this and do that.

I left.

They called me the next morning and said they'd do the deal.

Pain in the ass.

Do your entire purchase deal online. I did this many years ago and it was a very pleasant experience.

Back then most dealers did not really know how the value of the internet so many used it to just say "come on in and let's talk". I said no and you are off the list. Go to dealerships to look and learn but do the deal online. When you get to agreed upon price tell them you are coming with that exact amount to pay and pick up the vehicle.

In my case they tossed me the keys and said go look the car over. I did, came back in and said let's finish the deal. I signed the paperwork and was out relatively quick. Not fiddling with any unexpected costs. With this said, the dealer than won my business was in Houston and I only saw them the day I picked up the vehicle.

There was no deal to do at that point. You left the table and they left the table. Now negotiations can begin again. "10% below the website price is good with me, while I have you on the phone."

I did my last purchase completely over email and text, and it was amazing. A lot of dealerships still won't do it though. I had some that would give me as little information as possible to try to get me to come in, and this was late last year.

Check out D&M leasing, they specialize in leasing low miles, used vehicles and will find the exact vehicle you want if you can be patient for a month or so. It's owned by an Aggie currently on the Board of Regents (Mike Hernandez).

I have bought 5 vehicles through them and ended up with increasing equity at the end of each that I roll over to the next one. I consistently pay 20-30% less than dealer financing on the same amount. I always give local dealers a chance to compete but haven't found anything close. In fact on my latest truck purchase, I figured out what I wanted by test driving at Lithia, then gave them a chance to work their numbers up. They were a high BEFORE their add ons, so when they started to talk about that I just left.

I'm still mad at Allen Honda for the FEES we were assessed when we had to buy another car quickly a year ago. It was our 3rd purchase from them and I'm still disappointed in the added "window tint, running boards, fees" that we paid. Will not happen again.

Yeah, Allen Honda seems to be the worst in the area at this...

I recently bought a Honda Odyssey for my wife. A new 2023 model, though originally we were looking at a used 2021-ish model. This was in March of this year. We originally went to look at the local Toyota dealer for a Sienna, but that was a calamity in dealing with them. In doing so, I'd gotten quotes on a Sienna from Sterling McCall in Houston, and then we looked at their sister Honda dealer as well. The used model was $38,995 or so, and the salesperson, recommended that we look at the new, same-trim, model that they had put on the floor a day earlier. 2023, 7 miles on it, and $42,995. Just under list price ($43,200 or so), no gimmicks, out the door and done.

I had called Allen Honda on pretty much the same van; same trim, package, color (no wireless charger though). It had $2000 in extra crud (unremovable and non-negotiable) and a $4000 market adjustment. For the vehicle I ended up traveling an hour and a half to buy.

I looked at a few other cars they have, and the have some weird listings.

For example, they have a 2018 Tesla Model 3 Long Range with 62k miles and it's listed at $31,988 on the price. Not bad; not great but not bad either. Then there are the same $2,000 in add-ons (to be fair, $1,996) and almost $2,800 in services that are on a THIRD price sheet on the window. This adds up to $36,777. And then you're paying taxes on THAT amount.

Equivalent models on Autotrader within 100 miles of here are as follows, with no BS fees listed, from dealers, with clean CarFax reports.

* 2018 M3LR, 60k miles, $30,000
* 2018 M3LR, 53k miles, $29,995

I love how local businesses encourage the local peasantry to "keep your money local", and then proceed to gouge the local peasantry with crap like this. I'm all for helping out the little guy, but not at the expense of my bottom line.

I went to that ford earlier this week and knew there was about a 10% chance of me walking out with a vehicle that day. After the salesman came back with the price I laughed and said there's no way in hell. I didn't even try to negotiate or anything and after I made it clear I wasn't paying that much and I will look elsewhere all he tried to do was sell me a lower model and wouldn't until I asked about 5 times for my keys back because I was possibly trading in the vehicle I brought.
Now I'm curious if this was added as well...

I received an email from Allen Honda today wishing me a Happy Anniversary on purchasing an HRV for our daughter. The first line of the email says, "It sure doesn't seem like a year since you bought your vehicle."

Well, that might be because it has been 3 years!

It is probably because I am an old grump, but not paying attention to little details like this makes me think twice about someone trying to get or keep my business.

I have to say that I'm really disappointed with the things I hear about the dealerships here in town.

The dealer adding stuff to your price BEFORE you even make it to the finance office is freaking shady as hell. Just walk out. When the finance guy tries to add stuff, just say no unless you really want it.

I moved here from Austin. I usually buy from Autonation S. Austin because I know them well because they are a client of mine. But they are TOO far away from where I lived. So I'd go to Round Rock Toyota and get my cars serviced. 4 different Toyotas over 14 years. They were great. I move to Bryan and go to BCS Toyota. First time I get an oil change from them, they say that my alignment is off. I notice that they have Hunter equipment installed in their check in bays. Of course, they want to sell me alignment services. I politely decline. The next time I go in, I know I need tires so I then agree to the alignment. I drive a hybrid SUV so the tires have to be specific so that the mileage lines up. Almost 2K later that afternoon, I head out towards Abileen and meet up with a friend who notices that the bottom panel of my SUV is dragging along Interstate 20. I call the dealership and leave a voicemail for the Service Manager. I fully expect them to replace the panel because their tech would have taken it off when he was doing the alignment on my car. He doesn't call me back until Monday. When he does, he says that I really don't need the panel unless I plan to go off roading. But I should bring it in for them to evaluate. I gave them the part number so that they could pre order it(and save me some time) because this is what I do for a living(I work for a parts software company). I take it in, they evaluate it then tell me that it's going to take a few days for the part to come in. (eyeroll) They also had no loaner so I had to rent a car for two days. They call me to tell me it's ready. When I get there, I have to wait for the Service Advisor to talk to the Service Manager because they want to charge me for the repair. I'm like, "No. This is your fault. I am not paying for this repair at all." The advisor is caught in the middle and going back and forth. I reminded him that I hadn't returned the survey back to Toyota. So I they came back and asked me to pay for half. So I did.

I did let Toyota know exactly what happen and I will be either driving to Breham or Huntsville to get my car serviced from now on.

Dealers are my people. They are my customers. But the dealers here in BCS are sketchy AF

Last vehicle I bought was pretty easy...

1) Go to website. Pick Model, cost given
2) Picked Color. Cost given.
3) Added tow hitch. Cost given
4) Choose Loan Terms % down and Length.
5) Submit
6) Download App
7) App notifies me loan is approved, login to app and click accept
8) Next day, App notifies me registration paperwork is ready, go into App and complete.
9) App asks for insurance information, complete in App
10) App says it will notify me when VIN is assigned.
11) Couple days later VIN is assigned, Schedule Pickup Time and location for my convenience.
12) Go to pickup car, person says (all your information is in your car) its right now there with hazards flashing, just scan this ID card to enter and begin setup (Given 2 cards). Took 2 minutes.

Car drove me home.

True story. Easiest experience of buying a vehicle EVER. The future doesn't involve dealers or salespeople or managers or middlemen. Go to website. Add to Cart.

Honestly I wonder about the techs at BCS Toyota. I have specifically asked not to do a tire rotation the last time I went in because I had just gotten new tires so no point. They rotated the tires. Service adviser had put it in the notes not to. Then sometimes they note a leak/fluid around the shocks, sometimes not. Guess it really depends who you get. Overall I can't complain with them though. Now I am dreading having to go to Ford in town for service because I have heard horror stories but Ford has the only small hybrid truck on the market with good gas mileage. Been waiting almost a year since I ordered it and it is supposed to finally get built next month. Due to the fact that alot of dealers don't have loaners available if something goes wrong, even under warranty, I will be keeping my old tacoma as a back up/farm truck.

Oh Ford?

One of my best friends has his F150 hybrid in the service bay at BCS Ford going on week 2. They keep telling him that the part is coming in tomorrow. This is the second major repair that it has had since he got it…it's less than a year old

Years ago, I went to the local Ford place. I had an ad in the paper from a Ford dealer in Katy for a Mustang at a great price. I asked if they could match it or come close..

Instead of trying - the guy spent 30 min arguing on how that car didn't really exist, that I would never get one for that price in Katy, because no one could make that deal. Then, he showed me his best deal. Not even close.

I left, called Katy - went and got the car that day...

I so wanted to go back and show the salesman he was wrong - but I never did.

Bingo

A study was done a few years that determined the most expensive city to buy a new car in was Lubbock, TX. They got you trapped with basically one dealer per auto brand for 100s of miles.

BCS at least has options fairly close by. Use them!!!

Exact same experience. John Eagle was super easy compared to Allen.

Ever since Paul sold out to the costa ricans in 2019 the customer service went crap at the Bryan toyota dealership

The service center was dishonest when Paul was the owner.

Both my parents drove Toyotas and they would add BS services every time they went in for an oil change.

If you think it was bad then it is 10x worse now.
I think that is a common theme at any stealership especially with women and elderly.
Just today I had a guy at discount tell me some michelin 55,000 mile rated tires that have 22,000 miles on them are reaching the end of their life and that all 4 should be replaced.

Might want to be careful of Huntsville Toyota as well; it's owned by the same Purdy group as the BCS Toyota. Brenham is Tegeler.

Sterling McCall in Houston would be my top choice (Biased a bit; Dad used to do work for them in the late 70s early 80s; got a great picture of a Toyota 2000GT that came in there)
