I think there were 4 fatality accidents in Brazos and Grimes county last weekend

Today witnessed a vehicle merging onto bypass and failed to yield to traffic and nearly caused a big accident .. then the guy who failed to yield was honking at vehicles he nearly hit.

I don't think people realize if you're merging onto a HWy you yield to traffic on the highway… seen that happen several times

Similarly, too many people seem to not understand that those on the feeder road must yield to those exiting the highway...

Sec. 545.154. VEHICLE ENTERING OR LEAVING LIMITED-ACCESS OR CONTROLLED-ACCESS HIGHWAY. An operator on an access or feeder road of a limited-access or controlled-access highway shall yield the right-of-way to a vehicle entering or about to enter the access or feeder road from the highway or leaving or about to leave the access or feeder road to enter the highway.

Last weekend I experienced lane splitters for the first time on Hwy 6. Traffic was moving slow, but steadily moving at about 45 mph. I was looking for an opportunity to change lanes because my exit was coming up. In a split second as I was about to turn on my blinker, two motorcycles shot down the center going at least 30 mph over the flow of traffic.

On 290 last weekend we had four motorcycles passing everyone on the right shoulder and we were going about 70 in the right lane. Glancing down the road they must have driven on the shoulder over a mile.

I was praying that they all would pick up a few nails.

25 years ago I laid down a motorcycle exiting 6 at 105 East in Navasota because a lady on the feeder road didn't yield. My choice was the ditch or become her hood ornament. This isn't a new problem unfortunately.

Oh no. She drove off. Police didn't even show up until I'd walked from the exit to the gas station to use the pay phone to call my pregnant wife to come get me. It was probably 20 minutes before anyone came by.

One of the reasons is no enforcement.

I see 5 or 6 people flagrantly run every stoplight. Why not? I've seen one cop writing tickets for running lights in last couple of years. Excessive speed or driving like a turtle isn't enforced either.

The only ticket I seen written is school zone violations.

Red lights are actually tough for cops to enforce. A cop in a car (or Tahoe) usually has to be either in the front rank on the cross street, or right behind the red light runner. Otherwise, they usually can't get through the intervening traffic to make a stop on the violator(s).

Motorcycle cops can do it more easily, because they can just sit off to the side (even on the sidewalk) and watch from somewhere they can get out easily. But the general public doesn't like motorcycle cops much, as they're seen as simply writing tickets to make money for the city or county.

This, of course, assumes that the police department has enough officers that they can devote significant effort to traffic enforcement. I'm pretty sure not a single local agency is even manned up to the number of officers they're authorized (I'm not sure about the Constables). When they're understaffed, traffic enforcement is one of the first things to go. I work nights, and I listen to scanners whenever I can. None of the local agencies are making a lot of traffic stops. Even UPD seems to be making fewer than they used to. Stops are definitely down since the tag team of COVID and the George Floyd/BLM riots.

Merging on 6 almost always annoys me, whether I'm the one merging, getting merged into, or near someone dealing with the merge.

  • If you are getting on 6, it is your responsibility to find a place to fit in, not the responsibility of those on 6. Don't just start coming into traffic if you don't have room.
  • If you are on 6 in the right lane in a long line of cars, there is no one in the left lane, and someone is trying to get on 6, don't be an ass and move into the left lane to allow that person on.
  • If you are on 6 and a car is trying to merge onto 6, don't speed up to intentionally block them or get in their blind spot.
  • If you are on the access road and someone is exiting 6, yield to them and allow them to get off.
  • If you are exiting 6 after Rock Prairie at the Barron Road exit, do not shoot all the way across traffic to turn on Graham. I know you think you have room. You don't. You end up slowing down ridiculously on the off ramp and causing issues for people on the off ramp, 6, and usually the access road.
  • If you are using 6 to avoid the Rock Prairie intersection so you get on right after Deacon but stay in the merge lane to exit Barron, you are likely annoying and not getting up anywhere close to the speed limit. Driving 60 in that lane is annoying for people trying to get on and off 6.
  • Get off your dang phone.

This x1000! I use the Barron Rd exit (to actually get to Barron Rd) and see this every day, especially when it is pick-up time at the charter school. I wish CSPD would hang out there and start writing tickets for improper/unsafe lane change.

I am picking up/dropping off at ILT every day but I go down to Eagle and circle back down Longmire to avoid pissing everyone off and doing something inherently dangerous.

I hate it when people do that, but it's not an illegal turn.

The main problem with drivers is the main problem with everything, too many people are only focused on themselves and what they want with absolutely no regard for why laws/limits are in place or what's going on around them.

Even with some of the challenges we have here certain times of the year with so many out of towners, new students, etc. 95% of accidents would be avoided if people just paid attention to what's going on around them and made decisions based on what's best for everyone involved and not just themselves that immediate moment.

Glad you're at least going to Eagle. I wish others wouldn't cut through Bridle Gate as well. Cutting the line already on Longmire across a lane of traffic is annoying as hell.

It is a moving traffic violation if the LEO deemed it improper/unsafe. I saw it happen again just a few minutes ago. I was exiting at Barron Rd and the car in front of me immediately crossed all three lanes to turn right onto Graham Rd. The car that was traveling in the most right lane had to slam on their brakes to avoid a collision.

TXDOT or CS could easily solve this , they simply build up a curb and install the plastic barriers, in fact I called TXDOT about 2 years ago and they promised me they were going to do it Oh well another mistruth from government.

I would bet that 95% of drivers don't come to a complete stop at stop signs. In the past few weeks I have seen a number of police cars that didn't.

Don't forget, stop blowing by people at 90+MPH in the right shoulder because the left lane isn't fast enough for you. I've been passed by people on the shoulder of FM 60 west of Easterwood because the driver to the left wasn't going fast enough at 85.

Speaking of which, has George Bush and Wellborn gotten any better recently? I have seen multiple accidents there because someone decided to not bother watching for cross traffic on a yellow turning from George Bush and (edit) gotten t-boned by someone. I suspect it is the angle of the at intersection with the railroad crossing that causes some drivers to not adequately check before turning.

Nearly saw a bad one this morning. About 7:40am
Royder and Wellborn… middle aged blonde lady in white SUV turning left into Royder (probably taking her kids to school) she does not have a protected turn and pulls right in front of an oncoming truck forcing him to lock his breaks and swerve to miss her and causing him to nearly slam into traffic at the light

More of an unrelated rant, but maybe people in this town would drive better if they weren't randomly faced with unexpected detours through neighborhoods when the two lane road is completely shut down without prior notice. I'm looking at you, Greens Prairie. Is it too much to ask for a sign the day before saying "expect road closures tomorrow"???

Parts of OSR are under construction again as well; and while not completely closed, expect delays...

My office is off Emerald Parkway. The intersection at Highway 6 and EP is just playing a daily game of chicken. People really don't understand how to approach and deal with a 3 or 4-way stop, and because the intersection is more spread out, it takes longer for cars to accelerate through from a stop. People get so impatient, it's car horns and near side swipes/T-bones all day long.

And then at least put up signage the day of... Instead they have the low guy on the totem pole "directing" traffic by standing in the lane looking at his phone while halfassed motioning cars to turn onto Etonbury. At least they're making progrees.

And then I get to the WS Phillips/Victoria intersection and get honked at by some woman that I think thought I didn't stop at the intersection because the solid white bar is so far back to keep cars from stopping in the crosswalk.

From a Castlegate HOA email this afternoon:

  • Larry Young Paving will place concrete pavement overnight on Greens Prairie Road east of Donnington Drive toward Castlegate Drive. The pour is scheduled to begin at 1 a.m. and will last into the morning hours. Area residents especially those that back up to Greens Prairie can expect bright lights and construction noises throughout the night. We sincerely apologize for the inconvenience. In addition, Thursday morning traffic along Greens Prairie may be delayed as vehicles are flagged through the construction zone one way at a time.
