I think there were 4 fatality accidents in Brazos and Grimes county last weekend

Today witnessed a vehicle merging onto bypass and failed to yield to traffic and nearly caused a big accident .. then the guy who failed to yield was honking at vehicles he nearly hit.

I don't think people realize if you're merging onto a HWy you yield to traffic on the highway… seen that happen several times

The biggest issues are is that everyone is in too big of hurry and don't know what the words "speed limit" mean.

People don't wanna hear it but texting and driving and distracted driving is way more a thing obviously now.

in the evenings it seems like people entering the bypass think they should punch the gas to get in front of as many cars as they can before they force themselves into a merged lane. Then everyone gets to slam on their breaks

And this isn't students

9 out of 10 bad drivers I see are either on their phones or are old crypt keeper looking folks that can barely see over the steering wheel and decided that 7:30am or 5:00pm is the best time for them to venture out to make their daily WM or PO run.

I'd rather be on the road with a drunk than someone on their phone.

This is probably my biggest pet peeve about traffic here. I had someone get road ragey when I didn't yield to them (I was on the highway- they were coming on from the ramp). They got behind me and stayed within inches of my car, pulled along side me and swerved towards me into my lane several times, and then got in front of me and tried brake checking me. This was not a meemaw or peepaw, nor was it students or a townie. This was a thug in his black escalade.

We've got a quarter million people in the county now. Texas A&M is the largest university in the country by number of students. Older local drivers set in their ways sharing roads (which are not well maintained by the local highway department) with students from the large metro areas results in a steady stream of accidents.

Zip in and out without signaling on divided highways going 90 to 95 in a 75. If you don't realize their speed quick enough to move out of their way they'll ride your bumper until you do. Come up on you so fast you don't know they are there. Terrible between here and downtown Houston.

Another fatal crash just announced on KBTX on William D Fitch.

I don't know if I've just been paying attention to the news more lately or these are happening very frequently the last few weeks.

I've seen this very same thing when someone didn't yield. Dude followed closely behind me down the highway for a couple of miles, waited for me to exit, and at a stop light got out of his truck and tried to fight me. It was very odd. Dude almost caused a wreck, almost caused another speeding up to me and then follows me looking for a fight. This was a 40something good ole boy in a jacked up truck.

And this is why I carry in my car within quick/easy reach. I don't play that game. Don't **** with me or my kids. If I feel threatened/in danger and cannot quickly drive away, you will quickly meet the barrel of my pistol.

This^

I learned in LTC class that if someone is trying to run you off the road and you are in fear of your life, you can indeed shoot. Castle doctrine also applies if they try to drag you out of your car.

However, if they are just hitting/kicking your car and yelling at you, you are not legally allowed to shoot - in fear of your life or not.

I think of it this way... We have transplant drivers from large metro areas who believe that they must weave through traffic even if the journey is less than 3 miles and we have people from Snook (no offense) who drive like they are still in a small rural town.

Entirely too many people that can't think beyond where they are right now. How many times do you see someone on Texas south of the light at Deacon in the right lane trying to get on 6? That person needed to be in the left lane no later than the light at Brothers but that either took too much planning or meant they had to wait too long.
The federal government was never meant to be this powerful.

2 fridays ago headed south on 6 around 5:30 pm. im traveling in the right lane, weaving to the left at times to get around slower traffic

passed by more than 10 drivers going below 70 in the left lane on my way to Conroe

Just chillin, oblivious to traffic passing them on the right

___________

Also, several times now traffic comes to a complete stop headed south on 6

You assume there is an accident or something but you drive the whole length and there is no issue (headed out of town again)

Highway traffic should never stop, everyone needs to pull their head out of their posterierior

If you failed to change lanes in time, proceed to the next exit and turn around. Don't make the whole highway bend to your will.

If you are not comfortable in traffic, stay off the road during peak hours or take an uber.

___________

I think that if you get passed by multiple cars on the right, you should get a ticket.

Actively pass or get over, meaning you got 10 seconds or less to pass the car on your right

It's been mentioned on here that the entrance/exit ramp changes the highway department made a few years ago really messed up southbound traffic flow. The exits for University and Harvey in particular were pushed way back, leading to confusion. University went back almost a mile. Harvey did not have as much space and was placed immediately after the University overpass with a very sharp curve. This results in those wanting to exit there slowing way down, so much so that traffic seems to always stack up in the afternoons.

The justification for moving the exit ramps back were to keep traffic stacked up at the lights on the access road rather than out on the bypass. But with Harvey it actually made things worse on the highway than it was before, IMO.

Hopefully after we get our six lane upgrade (following months and months of traffic disruption I'm sure) things will be a lot better.

The act of yielding the right of way when merging is a lost art. I'm more surprised when someone actually does it.

People are idiots.

Another fatality in Grimes last night. 22 y/o female was killed whenever a 19 y/o male ran into her around 11 PM. No family wants to get that news in the middle of the night.

Keep your head on a swivel out there. Too many people have their head up their ass when they're behind the wheel.

In my opinion, nearly all of the traffic flow problems could be solved by people following the law and only using the left lane for passing, you know like the signs say "left lane for passing only" and "slower traffic keep right". People driving well below posted speeds in the left lane are a HUGE problem in BCS. Everyday on my way south on Hwy 6 taking my daughter to school, there is at least 1 minivan going 60 in the left lane with 10-20 vehicles piled in behind them tailgating and trying to get around them. I have also seen countless wrecks because of this over the years and a ton of road rage, people are either oblivious or simply selfish and do not care about others.

As long as they're going faster than traffic in the right lane (which, usually they are since the right lane of 6 is basically an extended on/off ramp), it's legal. We desperately need three lanes on each side.

People who excessively speed are a problem also.
It's not just slow and fast lane.
Yes we have people driving 60-65 in the left lane and yes it's a problem. However people driving 90+ in the left lane is a huge problem also.
I'll usually drive in left lane and keep it about 75-80.. I'll stay in the left lane unless nobody is in the right lane or I'm going same speed as right lane.
But if I'm in the left lane going 80 , no I'm not pulling to the right to allow the 90+ Mph driver by. Mainly because I'm still going faster than people in right lane and there are 20+ vehicles in front of me going 75-80.
So if you're in the 90+ crowd and weaving in and out of traffic.. you're the problem.

The less weaving in and out of traffic people do the less accidents.

Most if the accidents I see are just simply bad drivers , overly aggressive (the people who weave in and out of traffic at 90+ while nearly clipping every other vehicle) and people not paying attention … on the phone or something.

Yesterday while driving from peach creek to OSR and back I saw about a half dozen cars in ditch . It's pouring rain and people still driving 90 mph. Obviously they are idiots not knowing that the road has oil on it and when it gets wet it becomes slick, you can't drive same way on a wet road as you would on a dry road. And also have a much higher chance of hydroplane the faster you're going. Those dumbasses learned the hard way but at least they learned.

On Wellborn road in Millican yesterday evening during the rain a black Ford Mustang passed 4 vehicles at once in a no passing zone.

Again as others have pointed out , I honestly don't believe most drivers today know the traffic laws. I don't think they know who yields to who, I don't think they know what a solid yellow vs a dotted yellow line means.

It's unbelievable how bad drivers are
Sad how many innocent people die on roadways due to others irresponsible/ bad driving

I for one wish we had more CSPD and Bryan PD traffic patrol, more sheriff and constables patrolling rural roads and more Highway patrol on the highways.
Way way to many awfully bad drivers out there
The amount of fatal accidents proves that ..
EliteElectric
How long do you want to ignore this user?
Yeah that's a problem also but not one that would justify doing 60 in the left lane. Those signs are there for a reason. However, if I am traveling 75-80 in the left lane and someone is going 95 in the left lane guess what? I get out of their way, because it costs me nothing and I simply don't know if they have a good reason for going that fast.
pacecar02
How long do you want to ignore this user?
exactly

I'm not on the road to impede anyones movement, that is no ones job

if i'm on the highway in the left lane and folks are stacking up, its time to get over and let faster traffic through
